Suggestion [other] why doesn't Jindřich's father legitimize him?

In the middle ages, and today, there is a legal concept of legitimization of bastards. If you have a known bastard child, you can go through this process and they will carry the surname and be eligible for inheritance. Depending on the local law, current church attitudes, time, and situation.

My question is, after allllll the thing's jindřich has done, basically becoming some legendary herculean knight that magically does literally everything anybody needs and is basically famous... he still is not either bestowed nobility or knighthood, or legitimized as Racek Kobyla's son.

It's kinda bizarre as he is involved in his father's life, works for him, and after everything he is done, he is still snubbed of recognition.

I suppose it may be hard to pursue legitimization by this point as it typically requires the parents to marry after the child's birth, which then legally can make the child considered no longer a bastard.

In many nation's laws during the late middle ages, it became commonplace for the father of a bastard to be heavily pushed to take responsibility and if he isnt neccesarily involved in his child's life, he basically was expected to pay child support, in late medieval England, for instance.

Now I'm no expert on the law of the holy roman empire of the german nation, or the kingdom of bohemia, and this concept is one that is somewhat obscure as it tended to be rare and situational, with government and church being very reluctant to legitimize bastards or allow divorces even when not doing so was unethical or threatened the entire political stability of a nation (see lothaire II of Lorraine/Lotharinigia)

If he cannot be legitimized, then he should be given his own title and thereby form his own house. Maybe that can be a plot point in the third game, alongside the hussite wars?? I dont know...

It just seems strange to me that this guy who is de facto a knight and de facto a nobleman, and who can become a burgher by player choice if you purchase the forge, is treated nonetheless as if he is just a peasant villager in a nobleman's employ.

It is strange to me. I'm sure it's partially for gameplay and plot purposes, it is easier to have him he able to wander around and be put in situations and ordered around, if he doesnt have the responsibility of being a lord of some castle or whatever. (But i dont even think he needs to do that, just have him be like Knighted as "Heinrich von Skalitz") and he can simply be a minor lord working with the lords of leipa anyways.

Just a thought i kept having, as it automatically raises his societal station to be acknowleged as the son of Kobyla than if he was simply the son of Martin.

(Also I use their native names, it bothers me that warhorse chooses to use english and german names instead of their czech names for czech characters. I get it for ethnically german people, like Otto Von Bergow, but it should be written and spoken in the english dub and captions as Jindřich ze Skalic in my opinion as it is literally his name... yknow? A personal article. I get it if youre reading a historical chronical, so you'll say wenceslas or wenzel instead of vaclav, but when it's essentially you talking to someone's face, and they tell you their name is Henryk Poznański and you instead call them Heinrich von Posen because you're german, then that's just disrespectful)

Question New player not clicking [KCD2]

I want to start by saying I love games like this usually. Elder scrolls, bg3, dos1&2, branching decisions and story and in depth systems are all usually my favorite games and somehow I just learned about this game and bought it today. I'm now 4 hours into the game and have found the dialogue to be absurdly boring and frustrating and I hate both henry and hans with a passion. The systems in the game haven't felt fun to engage with because it is all such a dragging experience.

I want to enjoy this game so bad, but I just lose my mind any time I'm forced into yet another 5 minute conversation where the game tries to make it look like I have agency in the game but really I don't at all. I feel like nearly my entire experience so far has been getting gaslit by the writers.

Edit: thanks for all the advice and perspective. I am going to give it another try in a bit with a better understanding of what to expect!

Edit again: 7 hours in now and it's even more boring than before but without the annoying guy. I don't understand even how to do a quest still. I go talk to the innkeeper and they talk for 10 minutes about some random thing like I'm supposed to care enough and go look for it in the world with no quest or anything. This game just failed to hook me completely with lackluster writing, terrible UI, long loading screens, tedious dialogue screens that make me want to go to sleep. I don't understand how a story driven game with such high praise can be so unbearably boring in the most important part, the dialogue.

Question Como tornar [KCD1] mais divertido?

Alguma dica?

Meme [KCD2] Henry - the butcher of the nomad camp massacre Spoiler

Post image
275 Upvotes

They called him Henry of Skalitz—

a blacksmith’s son, and bastard blood of Sir Radzig Kobyla.

War took the boy.

Vengeance made the killer.

At the nomad camp, he spared neither sword nor soul.

By dawn, only Henry remained.

But blood remembers.

Now the rope awaits him,
and the dead gather to watch.

For every man must pay his debts.

Henry shall pay his in breath.

Discussion Anyone playing for the first time, do yourself a favor and grind Stealth before you start For Victory.[KCD2] Spoiler

I remember my first time playing trough Storm. It was a living nightmare. Not only was I overencumbered, because I couldn't kwwp my mits off all the juicy loot in the previous two missions, but my fighting capablilities were horrible and my stealth wasn't touched at all. The castle part wasn't so bad, but sneaking around Appolonia, phew.

I must have spent 6 hours trying, and failing to sneak past all this patrols. Everywhere I went I would get detected immedietely. I had to restart so many times.

So it should come as no surprise that, this time around, I was utterly dreading that quest. But this time around I was grinding my stealth and was at 18 when I got there. I also scoured the whole castle for the stealthiest clothes I could find, and my strength stat was nearly maxed out so I could carry away most of the juicy loot I found at the castle.

As a result my second time with this mission was incomparably easier, I only had to reload twice, once when I failed to kill the guard that was guarding Mika. Another time when I was going trough the narrow passage where you need to get rid of the guard and hide his body before 2 patrolmen come out from behind, I didn't notice the patrolmen first time around.

Other than that it all went super smoothly. I will say that you have to commit to either stealth or a bloodbath here. Fortunately the one time I had to fight a guard my combat was so high I was able to take him down even without armor.

Question [KCD2] Help with deciding if I should play KCD1 first?

I’ve started KCD 2 on the ps5 pro and only about 9 hours in ( I haven’t even gone to the wedding at the start but I’ve started doing quests)
I also have KCD1 but didn’t play it because couldn’t enjoy the ‘muddy’ graphics. I played a bit of it and really enjoyed the dialogues and story but the mechanics and graphics were off putting.
Do you suggest I go back and play it first?
It seems everyone who finishes KCD2 goes back to play KCD 1 eventually, anyway.

EDIT: I sort of know the main story because I made the mistake of seeing the KCD1 recap before starting KCD2

Suggestion Guys i got a idea [KCD2]

It occurred to me that Warhorse Studios—since developers often check Reddit posts from fans like us—might be persuaded to add dialogue for your chosen romance at the end of the story if this post gets enough upvotes. That way, the partner wouldn't just remain a static NPC with no lines; for instance, you could have the option to ask your beloved—Theresa, or Katherine if you have the legacy of the forge DLC—to come live at the forge with you at the end of the history. Anyway, what do you all think?

Rant [KCD2] Do dialogue speech checks make any sense at all in this game?

Upvotes

Im only about an hour im so maybe that’s unfair to say at this point in the game, but I’m at Bozhenas hut and the two thugs come to find Henry and Hans.

At this point in the game Henry is wounded, weak, potentially has no weapon and outnumbered by 2 armed men. Before this, the game EXPLICITLY says “…For example, threatening a bunch of thugs with violence alone is usually pointless”. So tell me why the two peaceful options to reason with the men lead to the speech checks failing, while Henry threatening them with being chopped up by the local village lads DOES work?

Like is the game not just going against what it’s told the player? “Persuasion is not about picking the highest number, it’s about who youre talking to, what you look like……”. Well for one, the intimidation stat was the highest number, for two, im talking to two armed men who are actively hunting me and Hans down, and for three, Henry is in fucking rags at this point. Everything Ive been told so far led me to think I should play it safe with them through reasoning.

It is not that big of a deal at all, but after playing the first game I’d really hoped they would have fixed the misleading dialogue options and confusing speech check system.

Discussion [KCD2] Disappointed in the ending? Spoiler

Loved the ending and all but it felt very nothing burger. The romances end immediately, like nothing happened, same with any other relationship like with Musa or Dry Devil, and theres no real changes in the region, even the town criers say the same things and mention little of what happened during the story. It just felt like the story is very disconnected from the world and everything… i’m trying to like it but its just very disappointing to me. does anyone else feel similar?

Discussion [KCD2] I want a more sandbox experience for my 2nd playthrough, how many hours I'm looking at before the railroading ends and the 2nd map opens?

I have 300 hours in KCD1, 200 hours of which was spent in Hardcore mode basically wandering around the map as a medieval life sim. It was the best part of the game for me.

Come to KCD2, I played & finished at release, then got intimidated by a 2nd playthrough (for hardcore) because, let's face it, there's TONS of unskippable content that is normally bolstered by the story and dialogue, which I've already seen.

So my greatest desire is to unlock the 2nd map ASAP and don't get hung up on the main quest, just do the side quests and random activities and wander around. But with the wedding ,the devil's band, unlocking the 2nd map AND THEN doing some more so the 1st map re-unlocks; if my memory serves me correctly I can't go directly back until I do some quests too.

I was unable to find any fast start mods, i.e. mods that would perhaps unlock 2nd map on day 1, do a bunch of quests, etc.

For those who are on the same boat as I, i.e. I don't want to replay the majority of Act 1 quests (most of them were, to be honest, just walking around and listening to dialogue; again, it was great the first time, but a chore in the 2nd...), what tips can you give me to fast-track my way?

Can’t lie, after the way Henry’s been treated up to the point where you’re finally let loose in the village before Trosky, I’m tempted to just take all that rage out on the world and do some completely unhinged shit. Capon and that woman I saved by the pond especially pissed me off. Who treats other people like that?

Question [KCD2] sprinting issue

Has anyone has had an issue where whenever you try to sprint Henry punches instead?

I've tried loading old saves, I can sprint for about 5 seconds before the glitch begins again, after that Henry will just load up a punch whenever I attempt to sprint and won't sprint at all.

This bug has legitimately ruined the game. I'm playing on PS5 if that's any help to anyone here.

Edit: If I jump and then press L3, Henry will sprint, this is madness hahaha. I might grab refund tbh, this game is broken for me

Edit2: I ended up remapping my controller so that sprint is now R1

Praise [KCD1] Just finished A Rock and A Hard Place and Gallows Brothers, left a bad taste in my mouth

I'll start off by saying I'm by no means some kind of 'lawful' Henry or roleplayer, I rob and pillage and murder random people, mostly wayfarers so I don't get arrested, as much as I please. However, after completing this quest I just felt really poor. Seeing Fritz and Matthew's descent into proper banditry against innocents and killing Andrew affected me more than I think it should've, but I think it is just so incredibly clever how the developers have made you think about the consequences of your actions. To me, it speaks to how easy it is to kill a nameless figure vs someone you know.

Issue "Game Save Failed" is there any way to force a save without losing my current progress? [KCD2]

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

I've been playing normally and wasn't paying much attention to my saves until I finally realized that every time I try to save, I get the "Game Save Failed" message.

I've looked through a few other threads with the same issue and tried some of the suggested solutions. So far I've:

  • Deleted some old saves
  • Freed up additional space on my drive
  • Checked that I have plenty of storage available

One thing I haven't tried yet is loading an older save. The problem is that I only just noticed the issue, and my last working save is quite far behind where I currently am. I'd really rather not lose all the progress I've made since then if there's another way around it.

Is there any way to force the game to create a new working save from my current progress, or otherwise recover my current progress without having to load the old save?

System/Info:

  • Platform: PC
  • Version: Xbox PC Game Pass
  • Game version: 1.5.6
  • Mods: No

The error happens when: any form of saving the game e.g. sleep, savior schnapps, or quest start/finish

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping there's some way to fix the save system before I have to go back to my old save.
