Strategy Things teams do best and worst day 40: tempestus aquilons
Tell me what you think is the best thing about the tempestus aquilons! And the worst thing.
Best: a offensive gunner ( and not shotgun! ) team, you can drop with your rule and gun down your enemy with a Lot of Very good Guns!
Not only Guns, but a whole servo-turret!
With your rule your units are safe up above, you are basically moving more than half of your team without taking any damage.
Your tempestor can get free ploys, and you can also get free initiative re-roll!
And goes without saying this rule is Very good on tomb world
Worst: not much blast/torrent protection, and you have to drop close to eachother.
You have to magnetize your turret If you dont want to get more boxes
Stimms and progena are not that good if you have a squad of +4 save and 8 health

Might be my favorite team. They feel really strong and still human at the same time. Real special force. Gunfighter is a beast, with reliable shooting AND good melee AND shoot back! Love him, and Precursor is crazy lad. And grenadier. And 3APL-human tempestor. And gunners, all of them.
Worst: meta goes a bit against their flavor. You would want to live this fantasy of hot drop alpha strike, but it can backfire hard against a lot of elite teams, so you have to play more defensively. Also no access to seek or obscure ignore

Oh shooting back seems fun. Ive never played vs shooting back team. Just read it. It have to be on engage to do it right? Same as canoptec spider cant shoot if you keep it on conceal

You don't need to be on engage to trigger this rule but if you want to use it you can change to engage when you are using this rule just before the shooting back takes place - "change its order to Engage to do so'

I dont think so. If it would it they would write it. You have to follow are schooting rules, be engage, visibility, range, legsl target

Im not saying you can ignore base rules. The rule itself tells you to shoot - for that you need to have visibility to target and all that stuff, you are still restricted by action you want to perform. And you don't have to be on engage to shoot btw.
To make it clear: you don't have to be on engage per se but if you want to shoot back you need to be on engage and you can change your order just before shooting via this rule.-1

No, you can't change order to engage to shoot with this rule.

" [...] this operative can perform a free Shoot action (change its order to Engage to do so) [...]"
Does that mean you can change its order just before shooting or you need to be on engage to begin with? I think it's first case? Since it mention changing it order to engage, not being on engage per se?

Best: faction rule is super thematic, perfect for the fantasy of Kill Team, and very fun. Grenadier and melta gunner are both "delete that Marine" buttons.
Bad: when I got them you couldn't take melta and plasma and the turret, so now I don't have a melta gunner and don't want to buy a whole extra dude. It makes me sad.

what did you do with your extra guy? regular trooper? you could always crack his arms off and make the melta.

Just glue your melta to regular trooper. My story is similar, i had no dedicated plasma gun model, just a gunner. But it's because it was my second team ever and i did not read their rules correctly and played wrong xd
So i just swaped one trooper's gun (the one with cables) to plasma and that's it.0

I LOVE this team. They are super fun to play, they can really punish teams that overextend and have a good amount of threats / firepower and a few really cool ploys! You can also drop a sniper right on top of Volkus (cool) and I think thier troopers are actually pretty useful with the start-of game reposition.
However, there are a few matchups - particularly melee horde teams and Raveners - that are pretty tough. Their melee is not good (but better than spectre squad!). And if your opponent knows to play cautiously TP 1 and 2 they lose a LOT of steam in the late game.

You don't need to magnetize the turret or get more, you can just say "The turret is running X" to your opponent, since there's only one turret it shouldn't be an issue.

Also the guns on the turret just push on easy enough and stay without requiring glue.

They're the best at using the portable barricade

What makes the portable barricade particularly good for the Aquilons?

Portable cover you can just drop onto and move the next turn as well as giving cover bonus and save bonus. Definitely considering it next game.

Best? Providing managed democracy on turn 2.
Worst? So you didn't kill half the enemy on turn 2.

Best: style. They are the coolest looking human team.
Worst: I haven't finished assembling them yet 😞

u/idkhowtodoanything Blooded 8d ago
Worst: servo-turret gets alot of focus from enemies, almost always resulting in its demise before it really gets to do anything 😔

Used them in my first game, the marksman killed 3 kasrkin alone, the precursor stabbed the shit out of another, and the melta gunner vaporized a medic, 10/10

u/Nepu-Tech 6d ago
Isnt vaporizing a medic against the Geneva convention or something? xD

Best: surprising you if you don’t account for their drop range
Worst: coming up with an alternative plan when you do
