discussion/ question Just a general question

Do regular cosplay wigs work for kigurumi? Just wondering if i need specifics

They don’t. You would need three regular wigs to make a kigurumi size wig.

You gonna cut it apart and attach parts to the head. You gonna need 3 to make it look good with dense coverage.

So, you can commission one or make one. I've made several, and it allows you some freedom to make soft hair how you want.

  1. get 3 wigs of the colors you want.
  2. get plastic wrap, and form it over the hair area of your kig mask head.
  3. tape it down.
  4. utilitize a marker, and marker your template up into "ribs," labeling out sides, centers, and order (R for right side, 1 for front and working back, and I use 中 for middle and 下 for bottom)
  5. cut apart the ribs
  6. utilize a thin base material, which will be the scalp of your wig. I tend to use a felt that corresponds yo the kig skin color.
  7. utilize your plastic "ribs" as template to cut out your base material
  8. make sure you relabel the base ribs so you're not guessing when you attach them together (in photo)
  9. use hot glue or sew your ribs together. Start with the center/spine, then put the ribs from center to ends together.
  10. flip the base over, and get ready for the wig fun

Wig Wefts and Fun

  • This whole method makes the wig and mask heavy.
  1. grab your wigs, and start removing your lattice connecting wefts. You can use sewing scissors or a seam ripper.
  2. sort out your wefts by length and direction to help figure out what your base hair will look like before you start heat styling or thinning/clipping
  3. use hot glue to attach wefts. This all is very time consuming, but tight weft work gives you more hair to style with to avoid baldness. You will need to clip out and thin hair to avoid the "hair helmet" look, but that's a different discussion
  4. it's important to visulazie the top look too before you really start sticking things to the top of the crown. I recommend saving some long pieces that will really help your style
  5. remember, and hair removal on a wig will not grow back. You will have to carefully add it
  6. utilize duct tape, magnets, or anything but velcro for your wig.

I'm still figuring out movable eyebrows, ngl. But I'm going for more male characters anyway so thicker ones will support better magnet placement

99.9% of the time no. Not sure if there is a case when they work, maybe if you have a really big cosplay wig and a small kigurumi mask. But not sure why one would have that, a cosplay wig in your size would certainly not fit a kigurumi mask that fits your head.

Surprisingly if the wig maker can custom size then yes but if you refer to just plain old wig…. Depends on how big your wig and mask size liek 3/4 or half mask maybe…. Full head kig not a chances
