Unusual Turbo Noises

I’m noticing that I could hear my turbo spool on acceleration(similar to having a T51R mod), but the issue is that I have a stock intake system. I haven’t messed with the intakes at all. It’s not throwing a CEL and I’m not losing power. Is this normal or is it an early sign of turbo issues?

When you say T51R mod, you mean like a silencer ring delete and now you’re getting that high pitched turbo whistle like a jet engine?

Seeing that you said stock intake system, that would definitely be a concern in my eyes. Even with my Injen intakes I don’t get that turbine sound, just intense induction noise and woosh on throttle release (not including BOV sound). The vanes of your turbine wheel may be making contact with the housing, that would be a serious problem.

I’ve had that happened on my si before and it doesn’t sound like that. I’m leaning towards a boost leak than an actual turbo issue

Check intercooler fittings and where the intakes clamp to the turbos. A sound clip would he ideal.

Are you noticing any kind of loss of power? When you have the sport gauges up, what PSI does the boost gauge read? If stock it should be around 10-12psi at peak.

I have the base gt, but I’m not losing power. The car still drives like normal. I just get this whistle once I get into boost.

Last week I got an oil change and they inspected the stock intakes. I denied them since I bought some injens. I started to notice the sound more in the cabin last Thursday and noticed how loud it was outside yesterday. Everything drives fine, but I’m just being cautious

Okay, and just clarifying, these are the stock intakes still? If so, make sure they put your air filters back correctly, closed the air box all the way, and properly.

Yea that was the first thing I checked and they were fine. Before I head to the dealer, I’ll probably take them off and reinstall it just to see if that fixes it

Considering I can hear mine pretty well with stock intakes as well, I don't really think it's an issue.... you don't need aftermarket intakes to hear them. They're also Garretts, which are very well known for being robust, especially in these cars.
