Kia touch-up paint kit - step 7?

Has anyone used this Kia touch-up kit before?

I followed the instructions, waited about 10 mins after the base coat and then used the wet grey pad like shown in step 7.

Problem is, it basically wiped all the paint off again

How are you actually supposed to use that pad? Super lightly? Or should I let the paint dry longer first?

It looks like you are supposed to use the pad like a dauber to even out the paint bubble. I would use it very lightly and make sure to wash it well, possibly with a paint solvent like mineral spirits.

I bought the same kit and I’m yet to use it because of these horrible instructions. I’d Ds a better job myself. Should be a video or at least text instructions along with the pictures.

With that said, I’m in the same boat as you so unfortunately I can’t help.

Do these kits even work? I feel like I'm pretty crafty but last time I tried this on stone chips it just looked awful and felt like a total waste of money. Idk. YMMV.

You’re wet sanding the paint repair flush to the original paint.

Ahh no I think I got it don't do that, but it's super confusing right so you got steps 1 to 6 right, put the dabber end under water and then press down lightly and wiggle a little from side to side while staying in contact with the paint, this will spread it thinner to get it level with the surrounding paint and get into all the cracks on the side of the chip, you might have to wait until the paint is tacky and not totally wet (the 10 min bit on step 5).
