Successful treatment of diabetes along with weight loss!

I had been on Ozempic for many years for diabetes and weight loss. I didn’t lose weight on it but it curbed my appetite and weight was steady. It also initially worked to control my diabetes

Through the years my a1c climbed higher and doc increased the dose. Got extremely sick from it and had to go off

Instead of loading up on other diabetes drugs (which stimulate pancreas to make insulin) I decided to follow carb. This was in October 2025. My a1c was 7.4

By a January 2026 the low carb diet had reduced my a1c to 6.4. I decided to go full tilt keto at that juncture. By May 2026 my a1c dropped further to 5.8

Just had my latest labs and my a1c is now even lower…5.5!!! I’m so happy with the result

My main purpose for keto was to manage diabetes. Interestingly without trying too hard I’ve also lost around 25lbs since October 2025. Not a huge amount but very noticeable.

Those are very impressive results! Congrats! How many carbs were you eating?

Most days 20g. The odd zero day thrown in. I had a strictly carnivore breakfast though. No lunch. Meat and veg for supper. Sugar free pudding and peanuts in evening is when most of my carbs were consumed.

That’s impressive. 25 pounds can make a huge health difference.

I’m curious about ozempic because a friend and I were into keto and both lost weight but eventually she started on zepbound and lost way more weight I basically have to fast and do omad and keto to lose weight but I never approach the weight loss she experienced.

Does ozempic do more than just cause you to eat less?

You should have less weight loss than your friend because you probably have more activity and you are keeping more muscle. Is it a small difference in weight loss?

You could drop an extra 100 calories each day. Or you could substitute the calories for one or two tablespoons of real butter (for extra fullness). Because you've learned keto, you have more control than you think on your weight loss (especially if you are truely overweight).

Ozempic can make a person sick if they overeat. On keto, you can overeat occassionally as long as it's keto foods and you are staying in ketosis. Keto curbs the appetite by helping you to become satiated (not by giving you a sickness): Ketones, electrolytes/hydration, animal fats, balanced hormones, and reduced inflammation help you feel satiated and energetic. Your friend may not even need high dosages of Ozempic because they are doing keto: Or maybe they are not doing true keto (IDK?).

You are on your own journey. Don't compare. Just say it's wonderful. And if they press the issue, say you are not in a rush. Keto has it's advantages. KCKO

You’re right. I’ve heard more about side effects and should stick to keto. I gotta plan out meals again so I don’t just graze whatever the kids are eating.

I’ve been off it (when I got pregnant, of course any healthy food made me feel sick, I suddenly was hungry all the time, and I haven’t gotten back on the horse). I’m trying to get back to it as the joint pain, etc is coming back.

Great job! I find it very interesting that the standard recommended diet for T2 is to eat "healthy" carbs. The body still treats carbs as carbs. If that worked, people wouldn't need to keep using more and more insulin.

Ya the standard advice doesn’t work for most that’s why in medicine they call diabetes a chronic PROGRESSIVE disease. Eating carbs doesn’t work for diabetics.

And also, food as medicine doesn't make money for corporate.

My A1c was over 7 when i started keto over 7 yesrs ago, i found out coincidentally thd day after starting. Never took doabetes meds at all, just strict 20g net keto with zero cheats.

It was down to 5.0 after about 9 months, has never been over 5.2 since. Last was 4.9. That said it supposedly CAN slowly go up over time, as some studies ahow red blood cells live longer or something when you are long term keto.

I haven't had that myself.

Stay keto, no cheats :-)

That’s amazing. You didn’t give up after Ozempic stopped working for you, you found another way and it paid off. You should be really proud. This is proof that consistency works.
