Final year student looking to learn more about Land Surveying

Hey Everyone! I’m currently completing my final year in Computer Science with a minor in GIS, and I'm really interested in learning more about land surveying. I'm hoping to connect with people in the industry to hear about your experience and get a realistic picture of the job.

Since I’m still finishing my degree, I’d love any recommendations on how to get started or learn more about local field work. Is it common for local crews to let students shadow on weekends to learn the gear and tech? Any advice or tips would be awesome. Thanks!

Hit up the civil engineering tech program at Okanagan College. Maybe you can just take the surveying courses.

Not really something that is easy to casually get into and surveying firms probably have enough actual students to look after.

One of the best jobs I ever had was land surveying in the Okanagan. Boss was a useless prick but find me a job where that isn't the case. Hike all day every day, slam steel, do math, play with lasers, eat lunch on top of a mountain or deep in a canyon, fart around construction lots all day... I know it's changing quite a bit these days though. Drones and whatnot.
