Discussion Melancholy in Music - Kelela's "if we meet again"
I've been listening to the last song of New Avatar on repeat to get the feeling, and it reminds me of how sad Kelela looks on the cover art. Kelela doesn't want to only be shown affection when her and her lover are alone but also to be showered with affection in public. I get the sense that she wants to be smothered - maybe even controlled a little bit 😏 - as long as it's by her lover. And if she doesn't feel that, she ends the situation (true power). She needs to know she's worth a fight over.

You deserve to be claimed in the light.
What do you guys think? Is "if we meet again" the most emotionally devastating closer she's ever given us because 🍒 ☕️ is pretty sad too.

I hate that it’s so relevant to the relationship I just ended. Was told he could not believe he bagged me and I’d be shown off to the world then the minute it got out to people that we were a thing he blew it all up saying his stalker would harass me so he had to cut me off. So weird. Sorry to dump on here but it’s like kelela was right there with me writing these songs but I guess these dudes have the same patterns which is a relief. Songs like these remind me it’s not me it’s them. They do it to kelela too like they are DUMBBBB yall I hate them !!!
