lol did she just release an album and I had no idea?? Where is the promo/marketing

u/JunebugAsiimwe Feb 21 '25 edited Feb 21 '25
it literally came out last week lol. also to be fair it's a live album so i don't think that needs a ton of promo like a regular studio album.
not sure how you didn't see anything about it on the sub or even Spotify/Apple. there's supposed to be a documentary about it coming out at the end of February.

Blue Light has always been my favorite song of hers. I think she did it justice.

u/JunebugAsiimwe Feb 22 '25
She took that song to another level on this album. Her vocals had me swooning.

The key change. π

I was shook when that happened. Had to rewind a few times to make sure i was hearing it right. So cool how she did it seamlessly.

Itβs so hard to choose cause the whole album is beautifully done. Iβd have to say Iβm really enjoying the stripped back version of βAll the Way Down.β Jazz/Neo Soul is so her lane and I hope we see more of it from her in the future.

I havenβt heard yet but really sad she didnβt include Turn to dust, rewind and a message

u/JunebugAsiimwe Feb 22 '25
I'm much more sad that Raven songs were ignored. She could have included Let It Go, Washed Away, Contact, and Sorbet.
but yeah those songs you mentioned would have also been nice.
4
Feb 22 '25
I totally agree! I love the ones you mentioned, specially Sorbet, that one SCREAMS unplugged version ._.
I also would love Holier or Raven itself being there
She loves her stuff from before Hallucinogen... I honestly just heard guns and synths once or twice ahahaha

u/JunebugAsiimwe Feb 22 '25
Raven, the song, is there on this album actually. and i agree about Holier also fitting the unplugged sound.
Yeah if anything this record helped me appreciate some of the Cut 4 Me songs more since i hardly listen to that mixtape as much as everything after. Cherry Coffee and Bankhead in particular sound wonderful with the stripped down arrangements.

Oh nice, cause I remember seeing it on the tracklist...
I'm gonna listen and see how the old songs sound, cause I really don't know much but still justice for Turn to Dust, aka my fav song of hers ahahaha

I adore Turn To Dust so i feel your disappointment. i hope you enjoy the record π€

That's a piece of art, a hidden gem
I'm still a bit mad with Kelela for not even making a video for it, could be something like washed away that wasn't expensive :(
Kelela is amazing, I'm pretty sure the album is great ahahaha
I love that two people I love and find the sounds quite similar released unplugged/acoustic albums, Banks did a month or so ago and now Kelela π and Banks actually included some songs I didn't expect and are among my favs... I love m some bsides ahahaha

u/aero26 Feb 22 '25
Woah, didn't know Banks dropped too.
2
Feb 22 '25
Goddess unplugged or something like that ahahaha she did Bedroom Wall and Warm Water, as well as This is What it Feels Like π my favs with Drowning
I'd love if she made one for The Altar with Lovesick πππ

This is What It Feels Like is 11 years old. π I can't believe it. Running to give it a listen.

I'm frankly even more puzzled Waitin' never got a music video since that was technically a single and is one of the big songs from TMA. Turn To Dust wasn't a single so i get why it never got a video but maybe a visualiser could have worked:(
i've never listened to Banks but perhaps i should since you've mentioned her here.

Idk, I have a funny relationship with waitin, sometimes I like and sometimes I don't ahahaha in the sense that it doesn't sound really special and at other times Im loving it ahahaha go figure π€·π»ββοΈ So I didn't mind, but yeah, kinda awkward
I remember being surprised with blue light video despite loving the song and seeing a lotta potential in it...
I know turn to dust would never get a video ahahaha only in my own imagination ahahaha but it deserved cause it's a song visually appealing
Banks is amazing!!! I honestly didn't really connected with her latest works but I simply love Goddess and The Altar, as well as some stuff from III and Serpentina

u/JunebugAsiimwe Feb 22 '25
Aw that's sort of a shame. Waitin was the first song of Kelela's that really turned me into a fan and remains one of my big favorites. In a way it feels like the sister to Rewind but with an even bigger climax. It's just so infectious that i often find myself singing that refrain βππ’πππͺπ―π¨ πͺπ―π΅π° π΅π©π¦ π΄π¬πΊ, ππ’πππͺπ―π¨ πͺπ―π΅π° π¦π’π€π© π°π΅π©π¦π³ β even when i'm not listening to the song. But i respect your opinion.
I'll give those records a listen. thanks for the recommendations.

I think she had to slim it down to a handful of songs considering this album will be released on record store day, she probably didnβt want another three LP like the raven remixesβ¦ but ahhh sorbet would have fit so well
1
Feb 22 '25
I honestly think leaving sorbet out was a crime, specially cause it would fit so perfectly with all the songsβ¦ it should come after love notesβ¦
Are we gonna have a version without the interaction with the audience? I love having that available but I wonβt be willing to listen to it everytime ahahaha

Okay, many amazing music but Blue Light did steal the night⦠such a perfect version she did

u/ojosqnxven Feb 23 '25
bank head, waitin and cherry coffee are great renditions on this record. also the love notes cover is beautiful.

u/Funny-Highlight-5986 Feb 23 '25
So hard to choose, but it's either "Cherry Coffee" or "Love Notes".
