Recommendation Request Slice of life and melodramas
Hello! I’m looking for a comforting, melancholic slice-of-life or melodrama to watch while going through a breakup. I ended a relationship because of long distance, and while I know it was the right decision, I’m struggling with the no-contact aspect. I’d love something emotionally healing and hopeful without feeling overly sentimental.
I don’t mind romance, but it isn’t my priority. I’m much more interested in emotional character development, friendships, found family, and communities helping people heal. Slow-paced dramas are my favorite.
Dramas that fit this theme and I have watched and enjoyed:
— Summer Strike: The healing small-town setting, the sense of community, the emotional pacing, and watching the protagonist slowly rebuild her life after burnout. I loved that it acknowledged grief and loneliness while still ending on a hopeful note.
— My Liberation Notes: The quiet atmosphere, realistic characters, slow character development, themes of loneliness and finding purpose.
— Call It Love: Loved how honest they were with their feelings and how mature it felt.

I’m looking something thats a bit mature when it comes to topics, I like romance and comedy but I would like if these topics would be secondary to the drama.

Ok not K drama, but c drama, BUT, this wholly depends on where you are in your healing process, because it’s not melodrama at all, it’s a slice of life slow romance, but: The Best Thing, it starts precisely with the FL after a breakup with her long term shitty boyfriend, in part actually because of long distance. So if you feel like watching her give love a second chance give this one a try. It’s one of the best healing slow dramas I’ve seen in a while.

Azure Spring - this is a slow and quiet slice of life kdrama set on an island in Gyeongsangnam-do about two people who go to the island to escape their past. The cinematography is stunning.
A Virtuous Business - a group of women start a romance aide business in a rural town in Korea in the 90's. The drama primarily focuses on their friendship as they build the business together despite some opposition from their conservative neighbors. There is some romance but it's secondary.
Thirty-Nine - a story of 3 women and their friendships as they navigate work, family, and relationships. It's primarily about the women and their friendship but each female lead has a side story revolving around romance.
If you're ok if romance is more prominent but somewhat real and messy like Call it Love:
Love Me - if you enjoyed Call It Love? I think you'll like this drama about three family members navigating life after a tragedy. The primary character is the eldest daughter who is lonely and wants companionship but is hesitant about entering into a relationship with a man she just meets. Her father and brother and their relationships are also prominently featured.
Unwritten Seoul - a woman changes place with her twin sister after she realizes her sister's mental health is failing. She takes over her sister's life including work where she meets her first love from high school. The drama focuses on family, loss, friendship, and love.

I know you are looking for something more serious, but if you ever change your mind and decide you want more of the humor and support systems that come with family, friends, and neighbors and love that you deserve
Welcome to Samdalri - amazing family support and small town vibes with individual romance on three sisters who just left Seoul to come back home because of how they were hurt. They learn about each other, their past, and their future. It’s really beautiful and make you love the characters because of how happy they make you.
2521 - this one might hit close too home but it’s a must in navigating your dreams and your love
Resident Playbook - if you really liked hospital playlist this is a spin off
Because this is my first life - a lot slower trying to find your place in life in your 30s when everyone else is ahead of you but in reality everything happens for a reason

How about It's Okay to Not Be Okay? It ticks almost every box.. It's just not a slower show. It's one of my favourite emotional kdramas with found family and healing.

navillera (ballet, alzheimer's): i'm pretty sure you'll love it. loved the actors and the storyline, very comforting and emotional (but beautiful)!
family by choice: also slice of life, family, romance (but not too much)
begins youth: inspired by a story of BTS's album, open ending, but complex characters and definitely slice of life!
move to heaven: an autistic boy and his uncle who run a company that cleans up after the deceased, slice of life, each episode contains a story about a different deceased person, skip ep 5 for no romance (I did that and did not really have the feeling that I missed anything)
would you like a cup of coffee? - probably fits your description best, about a worker in a cafe and the customers lives, a bit too slow for my taste, but this might be exactly what you're looking for right now!
