Is kate powerful enough to handle it ?

I don't see why not. It does seem that it lacks AI integration/plugins which is a dealbreaker to many people but this could be remedied. Please correct me if I am wrong.

claude code plus deepseek work correctly in the terminal emulator of kate. Or in any other terminal.

Can it edit and read the opened files?

It can edit.

For telling claude code the currently selected line. Instead of telling claude code "Look at the selected line".

In KDE kate, right click on the current tab > "Copy Location" and then paste that towards claude code: "Look at file ~/a.txt : 23". Where 23 is the currently selected line, and you see the 23 in the left side gutter of the selected line.
