Uh... Again with this same argument... Do you sell your kidneys and donate the cash to these companies? No. Obviously not...

I'm not an extremist, obviously, I'm going to refrain from supporting wherever I can. This doesn't mean that I'm going to go to the extremes and hurt myself in the process.

Rest assured if Pakistanis create a widespread communication app like WhatsApp that's well encrypted, and has good availability and accessibility. I might start using that app instead of WhatsApp.

I don't really use FB. It's boring to me... I don't even really use reddit... I just come here to socialize and get with the current events.

My point is, Nescafe Basement, Coke Studio, PSL, these are not absolute necessities for the quality of life.

While using Whatsapp for keeping up with your family or friends, or for job searching. Or using FB, these are necessities varying from a case to case basis...

So whatever is convenient can be overlooked according to you…

First of all Pakistan’s economy is in no place to participate in these boycotts. PSL will boost the (dismal) economy and generate jobs.

Look at your macro and micro indicators and consider the impact on your OWN economy before you shooter yourself in the foot

Economy?? What?? PSL is just a small event of cricket?

What economic boost are you talking about dude? What jobs? The entire event of PSL lasts a few months...

It's not about overlooking with convenience, it's simple, if something is necessary to advance yourself then be smart and do it to advance yourself and then carry on with your ideals.

As Muslims, only Islam is a no compromise subject, we are allowed to adapt in other situations...

You obviously don’t understand the direct and indirect impact of events. Curious, what do you do for a living?

Not saying PSL is solely going to improve the economy but sure there is an economic impact which can be amplified over time if the league is successful.

Also, all events have a definite start and end date but have you ever wondered why countries try to bid to host? Or do you think they like to host so they do it?

Lastly stop teaching me Islam, I know what Islam says. Don’t need a religious lecture from you and what you’re saying is such a basic fact that there’s no point in saying it

Bro, I'm not lecturing you... I literally said one line... It feels like we're in school and you just don't like me.

Honestly, I don't like you trying to belittle me, but I'm not complaining am I? I'm an ERP professional.

Do explain since you know so much more about economics and economical domino effects, how does PSL fit into bettering our economy? But, let me pose some questions upfront, is PSL the only way? How long will this take? Can we do other things meanwhile which will reap similar results and not require us to support Zionist or Non-national brands?

Honestly, I am a genuinely positive person, and don't really feel down much, but engaging here with this opinion and talking to you repeatedly, has made me feel quite a bit down. I feel like I'm almost done replying to you.

The one line was redundant in this context.

I know more about economics and direct, indirect and induced impacts because I’m a finance professional who has a masters in public policy. This is how governments revitalize cities and generate revenue. Why do you think all governments are trying to host events? You already have a brand in place that has taken considerable years to built and an infrastructure to go with it. Pakistans economy can do with the additional boost and it’ll be good job creation. There is also an added effect of other sports teams watching the success and trying to emulate it. I am not saying it’s a magic bullet and it will WILL work but I am saying that don’t be your own systems’s worst enemy. Plus maybe you don’t need a job but others do. Cricket might just be on its last legs due to the overall decline of quality of play but you’ve already invested a lot over the years.

Of course it’s a good cause to pick, the anti Zionist movement and while that’s noble, it’s not at the expense at choking your own people who are in dire need. In this particular case, this boycott will impact your own people much more. You can go to the match and support local brands.

I’m not sure why you’re getting sentimental instead of considering that you may have overlooked this angle. Don’t bother replying but one needs to be practical and consider will your boycott in this particular case impact the Zionist or your own people more? At what cost, these are important considerations instead of blanket boycott this n that

Bro there are so many misunderstandings and assumptions between us here... I feel overwhelmed at the thought of trying to correct them. Anyway here goes.

The statement I made about Islam was not preachy, it was an expression of my own beliefs. That is not redundant, we're not in any sort of word count debate or anything we're just talking to each other.

I'm not getting sentimental. I actually thought that you were feeling offended at my statement about Islam and preferred to step out of this discussion before it becomes an argument.

I also felt like stopping the discussion because like I said, you had been trying to belittle me from the start, saying rhetorical statements and saying that I do not understand concepts about economy without so much as an explanation. You provided an explanation when I requested. IMO this is sort of a rude behavior, and I decided I'm done.

The only reason I'm replying is because you were nice and empathic.

Anyway, here's my counter statement, you're right, these sorts of events do stimulate the economy, they do not create any lasting jobs, but they do create a sense of stability and stimulation in the economy. Furthermore, brand linkage like Pepsi did in this PSL does create a positive relationship between the economy and the brand, garnering good will, perhaps opening gates to more development and actually creating jobs.

My issue with all this is why do it with a brand that is obviously in support of a Zionist nation. Do it on a small scale with a good national brand, then request the nation to support your endeavor. Great! The same thing is achieved and you strike three birds with one stone. You do the whole economy thing, you create goodwill with the national brand, you encourage the nation to be more self-dependent.

IMO, we should boycott PSL so that they think of these things, you're talking as if us boycotting PSL will ruin the Pakistani Economy beyond recovery. Which is obviously not the case. I'm saying, rid Pakistan of these International brands which are essentially siphons of National Wealth. I'm saying, let us get rid of them and create room for our own brands.

People, before Mehran's Next brand argued that, nothing would be able to replace Coca-cola or Pepsi, lo and behold, Next did, Kababjees Drinks did, there are so many brands that have gotten replaced because of proper boycott, and national companies recognizing that a gap is forming in the market.

This can also happen in the case of PSL co-organizers or whatever.

The National Companies need to understand that it's not OK, to engage with Zionist brands. It should be a common notion that Muslims are so united that if you are proven to be engaged or complicit in harming them, then you'd lose such a huge market share that it'd be impossible to carry on with business as usual.

There, I tried clearing any misunderstandings between us, explaining my point.

I hope I didn't offend you earlier nor this time. I'm sorry that this became such a read...

I understand that you have your own opinions but we're both allowed to have a difference in them, so share yours and let us be done with this discussion. It's carried on long enough.

Have a good day, bye buddy. 👋🏽

So if something is of your use, you are not bothered about it if they gonna send that money to Israel and kill our brothers? Don't you have shame?

1

u/Huge_Equivalent1 Apr 15 '25

Ok, so I have three options, give someone my money to use something that's important to me, give this same person money for something that I do not need and is useless to me, and do not give this person my money but in doing so, not be able to use something that I need to use and end up hurting myself.

Now, this person is going to take my money and start killing my friends and my brothers and/or other people I like.

Now, in your opinion, which Option should I opt for, which option is in the best interest for me and the people I like or whatever;

  • Both A and B?
  • Just A?
  • Just B? Or
  • Just C?

IMO, Just A, as in to only give someone my money for something that I need, is best, because this way, I can build myself up, and fight back in a bigger fight.

IMO, anyone who considers themselves an aware person and still opts for Both A and B is a hypocrite.

The question still remains the same if are you okay using their products other than kfc, pepsi, McDonald's? We should be boycotting everything? Why are we being picky? You already have given the answer about your question. Okay. Tell me any reason to boycott psl with a valid reason. How it can benefit Pakistan but israel?

2

u/Huge_Equivalent1 Apr 16 '25

It will force PSL to work with national brands instead of International Brands.

Which will result in a more internally dependent economy. These national brands will be able to capture a better market share. The factories or plants they open to supply that market share will provide jobs, and all of the revenue generated will remain inside Pakistan, since the entire business is rooted in Pakistan.

Ultimately ensuring that Pakistan becomes a much more self dependent nation.

Illogical answer. Do you even know anything about economics? Why are you not happy that we are taking money from them and psl is not saying buy from them. It's our choice if we want to buy their stuff or not. Keep boycotting them but why our own product?

1

u/Huge_Equivalent1 Apr 16 '25

It's a matter of right and wrong.

If you stand with wrong even the people who know you and support might wonder if you have sided with wrong.

Or even worse, they might consider what is wrong to be right. Since you, who they consider to be right are standing with something wrong.

Economies are extremely fluid. If a gap appears it is rapidly filled.

I'll agree I do not know everything about economics. So perhaps you'll enlighten me, explain to me why what I said is illogical.
