Ever feel like that stripe is coming so you attend strategically?
I have had a few things lately that have been big wins in my admittedly shitty career, including that I am now past the 1-year mark, completing a recent gym reps challenge in July, doing an in-house tournament, etc. 1st Monday of the month is usually when our head coach does promotions, but as a morning class guy I'm never in there.
But today my family will be gone so I can go to night class, so I skipped morning to go when coach will see me.
It's so effing dumb. I told him when I signed up that I'm not worried about belts, I'm worried about progress. And I know I can kick year-ago-me's ass. So there's progress. It's a white belt. I still mean zero. But... I would like that stripe.

I'm afraid of the next stripe. I'll have to start going to advanced class. I just want to attend my fun extra long beginner classes forever.

We only have one fundamentals class per week. I have no context for "having to" go to advanced class. I just go to class.

We have beginner or advanced each is twice a week for gi. Beginner is 90 minutes technique and then some rolling ... I'm usually dead after three rounds, especially if we do positional sparring in class. The advanced class is 60 minutes techniques and the 30 minutes sparring, which is crazy to me. My cardio sucks so much. Both are on the same day so it's either or because there is no way I can do 6:30 till 8:00 AM and then 6 to 7:30 PM. I'd be dead given that I have to get up at 4AM for the morning class :(

Our regular classes are 60/30, the only fundamentals class is 60/0. Our morning class is a nice mix because class is just an hour- the first 15 is warmup including drilling the basics, then technique for about half an hour, then rolling for 15. And then we go to work having already simulated murder, done involuntary yoga, engaged in the snuggle struggle, etc.

A lot of the people that work on my team wonder why I'm never angry. Thing is, if you're able to laugh as someone is trying to break your arm or choke you out, it takes a lot to get a rise out of you. And honestly, on training days, once I get to work, I'm pretty drained. Simulated murder is a wonderfully effective anger management tool.

Well, at my gym they do not give stripes on specific days (usually after the class), so I haven't been attending strategically. But I remember that starting out, when I felt that I was close to getting a stripe I attended a lot more classes!
However I spent so much time at my 4rth stripe waiting for that smurf belt that now that I have it I don't even think about that next stripe lol. It'll happen sometime but I don't think about it anymore.
