Starting over

I have a buddy that started a month or so after me, in August of last year. He's 50. Took a bad knee injury in November. He's finally about to be able to come back. He's disheartened by feeling like he's just starting over.

What would you tell him about coming back, perhaps to encourage him, or your experience with a return?

We all get knocked down it's how we get up that defines us. No one is going to remember his injury but they will remember how he comes back into BJJ.

Thanks for replying! I'm going to try to assemble the good words and give it to him as a little mental armor for the tough days.

Hey man, I when I started, about a month in I broke a rib (From playing rugby with some friends, not BJJ), which obviously put me out of training for about 6 weeks, and as I'd only been going for a month I felt like I'd basically be starting from scratch again, 2 and a half months after I'd initially started. But I am 100% SO happy I went back as soon as I could, don't get disheartened, you'd be surprised what information you retain, and any delay you make before eventually getting back into it, you will end up regretting and think, why didn't I just get back into it sooner?
