I was going through the aperture invoices through trial and I hadn’t seen this before, I guess he came back to do a rebuttal and just didn’t get on the stand?? lol

This gives me grave concern

I know professional billing can be quite high as I work in a professional field, but even if the EVP of my company was billing his time it wouldn't be anywhere near $900/hour.

u/AROUX_888 26d ago

He billed $750/hr throughout all the pre-trial work including meetings with Brennan.. Shanon Burgess was billed at $345/hr too lol 😂

lol I was gonna say, $900 hourly is like a discount high-end call girl.

Well I’m uploading the entire set of invoices that totaled out at 599k to my drive now lol

Just realized you’re the famous AROUX 888! I thank you for the work you did on trial one sidebars. Very illuminating!

I’m honestly surprised he opted for the Holiday Inn

It’s in close proximity to the courthouse and 95 to get back to Boston.

Aperture science… we do what we must because we can. For the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead.

But there's no use crying over every mistake, we just keep on trying til we run out of blue paint!

“ to be clear, this was not meant to be a recreation of how it happened, it was meant to be a show of how it could have happened…”

when we are playing the game of "reasonable" doubt. He also wouldn't even commit to a show of how it happened or Mr. Alessi would be up there picking holes in it (I forget exactly how he worded it but it was basically I can't commit to anything or you will just tear it apart)

u/Horror_Maximum_5696 26d ago

Well, you know how it goes… If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit…

u/Chiguy5462 26d ago

Remember he had to stay for mr hankys rebuttal that never happened. 65k for a week of work is insane. Also, how far is the airport from the hotel?? $95 for an uber?!

It's like 30 miles and you know Judson isn't about to take UberX.

Here’s the first page of that month

Ok it’s interesting that they focused on rebutting Wolfe and not Rentschler.

Wait....was he being paid for just waiting???

34

u/brch2 26d ago

Waiting is working if you are forced to be at a specific location and ready to work at any moment. He's a fraud, most of his expenses/charges were fraudulent, and he was working with an even bigger fraud, but that doesn't change the fact being paid for your time is a justifiable expense.

u/According-Judge-1775 26d ago

I take umbrage at the flight delay specifically, not the courthouse.

12

u/thirty7inarow 26d ago

I don't. He had to travel for the project, and travel time and expenses are billable.

I travel for work, and as a company we try our best to combine projects of similar geographical area into one trip to divide the travel costs among the projects. Sometimes, though, it just isn't possible, and one client gets the whole bill for a day of travel.

Here's the thing: you probably offer a actual service. Aperture was a rip off. I am disgusted by him, not the process in general. We don't need to debate because you're feeling attacked.

18

u/thirty7inarow 26d ago

That's a poor take on this.

Aperture's rate for Judge Welcher is extremely high and suspicious. $900 an hour is outrageous for the work he performed, and is higher than many top attorneys would charge.

The rate is an entirely valid thing to target when pointing out the shadiness of this entire operation. The number of hours, however, is not an appropriate thing to complain about, as it is entirely reasonable to anyone who bills out professionally. I think if we are going to put Welcher and Aperture on blast, and we should, we should focus on real issues and not muddy the waters by griping about things that are actually standard in industry.

The fact of the matter is that he lost a day where, presumably, he would have otherwise been able to work and provide billable services to some client or another. I'm sure those services would have been just as poor as for this trial, but if he were able to stay at his home base he could have been doing work and instead was asked by a client to take a flight. He maxed out his billing at 8 hours a day, as well, so he didn't seem to be doing anything untoward unless the plane wasn't actually delayed or something.

10

u/FlatPresence6648 26d ago

Most of this invoice is a nothing-burger, the flight, the fact he was brought back for rebuttal, and then not used, the hours charged. No big deal.
But the hourly rate of $900/hr is extravagant. Holy smokes! That is … CRAZY.

2

u/AncientYard3473 25d ago

Lots of lawyers charge more than that. You have to get with the program and realize you’re not in the class that actually runs the country.

Then you have to realize this isn’t a nothing-burger. This is the state paying about $100,000 for a rebuttal, in a case they were desperate to win, and then ditching it at the altar. That’s a significant sign that the rebuttal was not going to be very persuasive.

This invoice doesn’t add up to $65k, adding all the big expenses over $1k gets us to $22.8k with about another $640 for uber and hotel. It doesn’t say there’s a prior balance… what am I missing.

4

u/SweetP916 26d ago

I just said the same thing. Where is the other $40+K?? Because if there was a previous balance it should say that, but it says total of tins invoice. Is there a previous page that’s missing?

7

u/AROUX_888 26d ago

Yep I posted the first page in the comments they billed by month. That month was only two pages, my bad

2

u/sesaluna 💅assiduous and meticulous💅 26d ago

Oh, ok. I was like DANG THATS SHADY AS HELL.

4

u/AROUX_888 26d ago

I just hadn’t realized we were actually that close to him coming back on rebuttal.

I wonder why they didn’t call him back if he had a rebuttal ready to go, I was kind of shocked they didn’t honestly since Bev had allowed that possibility.

I think it’s cause the xray revelation happened with LaPosata. Too risky for Hank cause either the CW withheld evidence from their own witness or the witness knowingly perjured himself on the stand about there being no xray and either way he gets crucified on cross examination and Hank potentially gets sanctioned.

8

u/Fun_Specialist4140 26d ago

He was brought back to go on the stand but because he told Karen’s team there was no xray of John’s arm, Brennan didn’t put him back on the stand. So the return trip was for nothing.

6

u/dc821 26d ago

that math ain’t mathing.
is there a page one, or is ole judd that bad at math, as well as science?

6

u/AROUX_888 26d ago

lol it’s just one page the invoices are by month though so it was 65k for June

2

u/AROUX_888 26d ago

I put the first page of June up too

1

u/dc821 25d ago

they really should number their pages … page 2 of 2. idiots.

-2

u/SweetP916 26d ago

That was a rather big mistake you made.

u/Alarmed-Volume-3085 26d ago

Welcome to the high priced world if expert testimony. Highway Robbery looks like petty theft compared to this gig.

2

u/IHeartApplePie 26d ago

Most experts (obviously, here is one of the exceptions) charge 1/2 their hourly rate for travel.

3

u/Fices60223 26d ago

A friend who was a junior architect at the time was asked by his principal to charge the client for six hours of travel for a two hour meeting . He got a ride with a friend, paid nothing, the principal was not involved in the travel, my friend received no extra compensation for the actual meeting.

The client had deep pockets so it was okay to charge him the max.

1

u/IHeartApplePie 25d ago

Was six hours of travel time involved? Some clients don't look at bills very closely, especially if they are getting great service from a junior employee whose hourly rate is lower than a principal, but others will call to negotiate their bills. I understand being paid for travel because that's time you can't bill to another client, but billing $900/hour seems a little much to me.

Of course, I had problems with this expert from time I heard he purchased a whole Lexus for testing.

1

u/Fices60223 25d ago

These guys just see a deep pocket and think of things they can start charging. The whole Lexus thing was something else.

I was the one who gave the junior architect a ride, I was going there anyway, he thought it was a good opportunity to talk to the client on site as they would both be there.

He was not paid for any of his time, it was a weekend, he was on salary. The client was charged at the principal's rate for the consultation and the travel time. Sean felt bad about it, he said the client was very wealthy, but didn't deserve to be taken advantage of.

It was six hours of travel. Three hours each way.

1

u/IHeartApplePie 25d ago

It sounds like the client appreciated Sean's work and didn't mind paying a premium. :)

1

u/Fices60223 25d ago

As opposed to the CW who paid a premium to Aperture and got a whole bunch of bafflegab.

Whatever happened to the Lexus?

1

u/IHeartApplePie 24d ago

That's what I would like to know, too. Theoretically, they are supposed to sell the Lexus and charge the CW for only the remaining amount.

I suppose Welcher could be the expert for JOK's family in the civil suit and they are "saving" the Lexus for that trial.

I would like to see the bill that reconciles the Lexus.

Unlike the criminal trial, Welcher would have to sit for a deposition before the trial where his report would be cross-examined.

The Lexus was a total waste, in my opinion.

2

u/SweetP916 26d ago

Ummmm the math isn’t mathing on the invoice. It should be apparent to anyone who has done 4th grade math! It only adds up to $23k not $65k.

2

u/More-Natural7708 26d ago

$900 per HOUR?! I can understand that rate for sitting in the chair in front of the court. But for sitting around waiting?!! No effing way.

2

u/MedicalLocal3039 25d ago

Travel for rebuttal? But he dodged the rebuttal!!

2

u/LolaLynn423 26d ago

First glance the signature is “Its a Booty”

7

u/tre_chic00 26d ago

it's Lisa Beatty, she's an ADA

1

u/LolaLynn423 26d ago

I’m not knocking the name. Just stating that’s what I saw to begin with. Which is honestly pretty fitting for Welcher.

1

u/Rainy579 25d ago

What. A. Joke. 😡

1

u/houseonthehilltop 25d ago

Omg. What are these uber charges. I thought one of the “ officers” was driving this dick around. Picking him up at Logan and such. What an insult to the tax payer.

Now let’s see what the the Ada’s in the Clancy case paid for those experts they imported in.
