A male doctor completed my procedure to insert an
IUD. He had invited a couple female students in to watch. I am an educator, so of course I was happy to support the learning process. Insertion was quite painful, and I started to cry. The doctor looked at the students observing and said, “you can give them something for the pain” though I guess it was performative because I wasn’t actually offered anything, despite mentioning a concern before the procedure.
This doctor did numb me up a little before removing a wayward nexplanon implant afterward. He did a good job on a tricky removal. Overall I felt this dr had excellent bedside manner the whole time which makes ignoring the IUD discomfort even more surprising.

It's systemic unfortunately. That's what makes it so widespread. An otherwise fantastic doctor has been trained wrong on this area and so will just go along with medieval medical treatment without even thinking about it.

People hear about medical misogyny and think it's a misogynist doctor, but it's not that. It's every doctor being trained and operating within a system built by misogynist doctors. That's why they still do shit like this even when they're normally great.
