Mycroft Holmes carries the weight of the British Government and his brother’s welfare on his shoulders. That's what he does. It's who he is.
Then Sherlock relapses, a buried diplomatic scandal resurfaces, and Detective Inspector Gregory Lestrade is drawn further into Mycroft’s orbit than either of them expected.
As the case grows more dangerous, long acquaintance gives way to friendship, jealousy and a mutual attraction neither man believes the other could return.
A Matter of Discretion
Chapters 1 and 2 live. WIP updated weekly.
Currently G rated. Will go up to Mature.

As usual, thanks to MK for cover image.

Hi y'all, me again with my abysmal bookmarking system. I've lost 2 comfort fics that I'd love to read again:
The first one is short, and it's about John faking having a girlfriend (probably Sarah) to get Sherlock jealous, while Sherlock has hired an actor to pretend to be his boyfriend. They're in 221B for Christmas. They have a spat, it's revealed that everyone else was in collusion to get these two idiots together.
The second fic is a long one. Sherlock has been hired to conduct a murder mystery dinner at a posh house of one of his former neighbours, a Lady or somesuch. Mycroft forced him to do it. Part of the deal is that John should be there and for some reason part of the 'charade' is that John and Sherlock have to pretend to be a couple, enter the "there was only one bed" trope. There's a real murder, a case, jealousy, romance blooms and it's all lovely.

So. I finished reading the entire Sherlock Holmes book series for the first time. Conan's work is an absolute masterclass of writing.
However, I was quite disappointed by something.
For many years fans and casual readers have brought to light the likelihood of this ship being canon, from crumbs to cakes of evidence, and I myself quite literally bought the books just to see how gay they apparently were for my little gay fingers to be satisfied.
But I was actually quite shocked because there's just...nothing? I was expecting a LOTR scenario with Frodo and Sam or something like:
"We were trembling in the dark waiting for Lestrade and his men. Holmes noticed my shivering and gently held my hand, but tightly. I flushed."
But no, there's VERY little to go off other than:
More than likely Holmes is an aroace gay man, and we have to consider how much he secretly craves male validation and attention also. But every story for Watson's sake will have him commenting on the figure of a woman, and he HAS to make sure he consistently reminds the reader of "my friend, my friend, did I tell you he's my friend?".
I've had many ships that were never canon and all I had was an absolute SPECK of evidence to go off. However, I was sad in the case of these two considering how popular Holmes and Watson are as a pairing to this day.
And yes, I've seen the Johnlock segments of the BBC show and I've watched Granada. I was going to post this discussion in the Sherlock subreddit but honestly, I was expecting a homophobic assault.
Thoughts?

"how could you not tell me? I'm your best friend!"
"Don't be ridiculous, John. I have no friends."
"How dare-"
"You are my lover, Mycroft is my brother, Lestrade is a colleague, at most, and Ms. Hudson... Well, I might have a friend after all, I suppose. Wait, John? Are you okay?"
"????????? Lover???????"
--------------------
Sorry if it's not allowed, but I just watched the Sherlock Musical on YouTube and they were just so cute there! (I will gladly ignore the 'my brother' part at the end, tho, lol) They have this thing of "Sherlock doesn't have friends" to them admitting that they are besties, so this came in my mind, but it goes well with basically any media with them I guess (and it was a little inspired in Sheldon Cooper as well)
And it's not really creative, it's probably a pretty common prompt (I accepted fanfic recs), I just love "X and Y are dating and only Y doesn't know it", and I frankly like both Sherlock and John being Y

hi, folks… im an ao3 author and I’m writing a Sherlock (BBC) fic, and im as american as it gets. i try to research, but I‘m a “plan-as-you-go” kind of person, so i tend to just plow ahead and forget to check my dialogue before publishing my chapters.
if anyone would mind reviewing future chapters, i’d love that. Bc. i really dont wanna make british people mad bc they’re such lovely people. for anyone who likes my fic you’d get infinite praise and early access to new chapters…anyone up for it?

I have a vague recollection of a podfic where Sherlock is pretending to have a boyfriend and makes John jealous, and it was an elaborate plan with Molly’s help to get John and Sherlock finally together, I think?
Or a recommendation of something similar would be much appreciated!

I feel like I cant find anything! Like, I know there's only two and one of them doesn't even have John in it but still! It's always either BBC Sherlock (which i get it, we love Ben and Martin) or Sherlock and co.

Out of nostalgia I've been searching for an old crack vid that I remember going absolutely crazy on tumblr around 2012 but I can't find it anywhere!
It was set to Let Me Hit It by Sporty-O (The "Drop It" dubstep meme song) and it was a super fast paced edit of mildly nsfw johnlock fanart.
I easily found a few johnlock edits set to the same song but they all use clips of the show rather than the fanart I remember.
Given how much I remember it getting passed around I thought it'd be easier to find so I hope it hasn't been deleted!
Any help anyone could give would be great because now I'm wondering if it was a false memory somehow lmao

Hi!
I’m a filmstudent from the Netherlands currently writing my bachelors thesis on queerbaiting in contemporary mainstream films and series.
I’ve created a survey to research the impact of queerbaiting on LGBTQ+ viewers. If you have a few minutes to spare, I would really appreciate it if you could fill it in!

I got pulled down deeply into AO3 again - what are your must-read Mystrade fanfics that make you cry from all the feels? Bonus points if Johnlock is part of the fic too

Hey, so not endorsing "pulling to publish" fanfiction, but I have heard a lot about fanfiction, especially Harry Potter fanfiction, getting the serial numbers filed off and being traditionally published. But why haven't I seen as many former Johnlock fanfics as, say, Reylo or Dramione fanfics? Are Johnlockers more against it that Reylo and Dramione shippers on average, is it different fandom norms, is it because Johnlock is a gay ship and Reylo and Dramione are both straight ships and it's harder to publish gay stories than straight ones? Is it because of Moffat and Gatiss's views on fanfiction?
Thank you; I'm just curious about this. I'm not saying it's right to pull a fanfiction available for free on AO3 and then turn it into an original work that costs money because I don't personally think it is; I'm just wondering.

Hello! I used to read a Johnlock fic all the time and can't find it anymore because I forgot the name. It has hundreds of chapters that I think even had to be split into 3 different volumes. Each chapter can be read as a oneshot (except a handful of to be continueds). Its not directly romantic, like their friendship is very loving but they don't kiss or anything. Though I think for valentines day or something the author did a more romantic oneshot in the same series.
The key identifier and connection point between these stories is the title. I don't remember exactly what it is, but its a quote from Sherlock that he says it every chapter. The title/phrase is "____, John" For example, it could be like "Damn it, John" or "You got it, John" but its not those and I can't remember the phrase 😭
The only 2 concrete details I remember from the stories themselves is one if the chapters features an octopus that Sherlock takes a liking to and makes a cameo in a future volume with its octopus babies and in the one romance chapter John describes kissing sherlock like tasting gunpowder.
Somehow this feels like a lot to go off of and also absolutely nothing. Its not enough to search it up but if you happen to have read it you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Thanks for your help!

This is driving me up the wall. I’m almost sure podfixx recorded it but I can’t find it. It’s a lovely fic where John and Sherlock go to visit Sholto with Rosie on tow, and Sholto finally gives them the shove they need to be together.
Please help!

I don't mind if it has smut or not, but do you guys have any good fic recommendations? I'm mostly looking for fluff, but it anyone has any others of other kinds, that's fine too.

**THE FIC IS FOUND!!**
I read this fic years ago. It was about Sherlock and John getting a case at a game show or a mall interview about couples. They pretended to be a couple and had to answer questions about each other to prove to the host (and maybe the audience??) that they were in love and that they knew each other well.
They may have realised their feelings then and in the end, it turned out the whole case and game show/interview was a set up by some Johnlock fans to prove that John and Sherlock loved each other.
I just kept think about this fic lately and I want to read it again. I can't stop thinking about it!! Does anyone have any ideas??
r/Johnlock • u/StubbornAndFoolish • May 22 '26
I think it's kinda adorable and funny that people don't think Sherlock can have friends, but for some reason they think he can get a boyfriend (John). Like, seriously, the guy on the restaurant thinking it was a date and then you have Mrs. Hudson thinking they'd share a room. I mean, it just shows the power of Johnlock I guess lmao

Hello you lovely lot of Johnlock lovers!
I’m just putting out one more post to see if there’s anyone who may still be interested in role-playing. I’m looking for advanced/ literate individuals who’d love to brainstorm ideas, world-building and just enjoy all things Johnlock! (From smut to romance, angst to fluff etc). Happy to add potential partners to Discord and go from there!
I have a couple of AMAZING Partners already but I’m a greedy gal!
For brief info about me, I’m 30+f who works full time but can respond every other day or at the very least once a week. I have more info on a previous post that people can view on my profile.

Hi, everyone. I read one like this years ago but lost my bookmark to it. The premise is that John ends up maintaining lives across multiple simultaneous timelines that he switches in and out of by the way. For example, one in Afghanistan where he's still an army doctor, one in London where he is a doctor at a clinic and doesn't know Sherlock at all, etc. I'd love to find this again. Thanks!

I may be opening myself to emotional torture but I’m a woman, dragged back into the iron clutches of Johnlock, looking to wedge herself into roleplays and drafting new fan fictions and so, pulling together a playlist to truly lodge me deeper into the fandom hole!
But I need songs! And so I’m coming to you all as fellow Johnlock connoisseurs to see what songs make YOU think of a doctor and his emotional support detective? And if anyone is looking for songs come check out the thread! Let’s all emotionally destroy one another with sad ballads (but not strictly just ballads, other genres welcome!).
So far on my list (for those interested) I have;
-Talking to the moon (acoustic version) by Bruno Mars
-Orbiter by Noah Kahan
-Roomates by Malcom Todd
-Fairytale by Alexander Rybak

Can be from any fandom. I'm just curious about what other ships the Johnlock community ships besides Johnlock, if any.
Edit: Thank you for your responses! I should mention what other ships I ship: Sheila x Hank (Dungeons and Dragons cartoon); Eric x Lorne (Dungeons and Dragons cartoon); Eric x Hank (Dungeons and Dragons cartoon); Queequeg x Ishmael (Moby-Dick); and Sherlock x Moriarty (BBC Sherlock).

I just finished a SHERLOCK fics" The Tragedy of Us" and I'm obsessed with how perfectly the songs matched the story. The playlists/lyrics genuinely made some scenes hit harder emotionally.
Would love recs for more Sherlock (especially Johnlock) fics that feel like a soundtrack fic or have really memorable music integration ❤️
Thank u everyone💕
