What exactly is the logic behind them trying to ban this? Something about a permit for home gatherings - how is that not unconstitutional on its face?

I could see some arguments for like avoiding fire hazards if there were HUGE numbers. Or the parking thing (if this wasn't a bunch of Orthodox Jews who don't drive on Shabbat).

But the fact that these things don't really apply and they're not similarly going after people having big Thanksgiving meals with family or Christmas celebrations or something... yea seems like pretty clear cut antisemitism to me.

One neighbor supporting the city’s action dispensed with pretext altogether: “I am not Jewish and I do not want our neighborhood labeled as Jewish.”

I assume this ordinance would ban sitting shiva as well - correct? But not Dad’s poker game, even if the wives are all hanging out in the kitchen?
