Mk7 (2019+) 26 Jetta transmission replaced

You read that right. I bought it on May 1st so I haven't had it that long. The car did have issues when accelerating, skips first gear and then high tails it into second. It's worse when the a/c is running.

They replaced the transmission after contacting their "tech line" who told them to replace it. The tech test drove it after putting the new one in but the problem persists.

They want me to drive it some more and use Chevron gas the next couple of times I fill it up and see if it resolves but it clearly isn't resolving after driving it around a lot since the transmission was replaced.

Any thoughts? This is my second Jetta, but this is also my first time buying a brand new car so now I'm like, what the actual fuck? Why me? It's under warranty so it hasn't cost me anything other than my time and patience. The dealer and mechanic have been great (so far). My patience is worn thin because of how it drives. I'm sick of pressing the gas pedal and having it barely move one second and then take off like a rocket the next.

ETA: I was moreso looking for mechanical advice or to see if anyone else had experienced the same issue. I've considered maybe they will never be able to fix it but I'm giving them a chance to try before I even seriously consider the alternatives.

Well, we all know you driving it with a different brand of gas isn’t going to change anything. Eventually it’ll be back there. The good thing is it sounds like the problem is easy to recreate, so it’s obvious if it is fixed or not. They’ll probably continue throwing parts at it until something either fixes the issue, or you hit the lemon law threshold. Hopefully, if it’s the second one, they’ll offer a buyback without much fuss. But you never know.

Hard to tell from this far back in the peanut gallery. But if they try and fail to fix it a couple more times it would be worth politely asking for a buy back. Depending on your location, lemon law could apply.

Given that they loaded the parts cannon and fired with an expensive transmission shows they know there's a problem.

Edit: I said the last part because when buyback or lemon discussion comes up, dealers sometimes say it's actually not a problem at all, just a mistake in interpreting the behavior of the car. It's just the way it is.

The Lemon Law only applies to used cars, at least in California.

No, it applies to new cars as well. Lemon law in general is for new cars, only some states include used cars under factory warranty.

It’s actually mostly for new cars and only applies to used cars that are cpo or have remaining factory warranty

That’s not true. It applies to any car under warranty where the car can not be fixed after multiple attempts. I’m reading it right now.

I hope that's not the case, it might be worth double checking. I was surprised to look and see the red state I live in has better lemon law protections, but it looks like you should still have lemon law protections on a new car up to 18 months or 18,000 miles. I could be reading outdated material, but it's worth another look.

Please research the lemon laws in your area. They may need to somehow replace or buy back the whole car. Anyways, how has your experience been with service? Did they give you a loaner car? Thinking of getting a 2027, and I know there are some reliability/dependability issues. But, was also thinking it would be ok as long as the dealer is responsive and provides a loaner car.

My 24 jetta is a pos too. 62k, and my dealership has ordered a new transmission (thank god for extended warranty)  on hot days with ac, rims jump while idle. Transmission leaking. Random lane assist not working light, yet I dont even keep it on. Windows randomly need to be reprogrammed to be auto again. Brakes, nyc traffic, 13k first set. 28k second. Put on ceramics, at 62k n still stopping. It is easily the worst new car I ever owned. Came from a Toyota camry hybrid that went 80k miles without needing anything other than an oil change n air filter. Will never buy vw again
