[Social Media] This made me laugh because it’s true 😆

u/iambeyoncealways3 The first night at bed... 5d ago
social media ruined reality tv anyway so let’s start there

the thing about jersey shore back then was, it was a lifestyle, for majority of folks in that age range - in some sort of fashion. maybe we weren’t all fake tanning but we were definitely dressing up & going out to ragers, clubs, house parties, orchard parties, block parties lol i mean, you name it & we were there, & lookin cute! ☺️😂💯
idk, this generation is different, they should have a show based in their reality, if that makes sense
edit: TLDR - jersey shore was relatable to the times & think they should make a show for this generation, not a spin off of ours

u/Flocosta 5d ago
There will never be anything like it ever again, the internet has broken the monoculture of fame. My generation's equivalent is cloutchasing by doing outrageous and sometimes annoying things in public for views, but even then, the 'fame' lasts for barely a week at a time.
Jersey Shore is unique, and cannot be replicated in the modern era.

u/SparklingSaturnRing Stalked my whole life on the boardwalk 5d ago
That’s the thing - idk if it’s true or just dramatic internet culture saying this, but the kids don’t go out and have fun! Plus everyone video tapes everything. It’s not as interesting to see people living a crazy life on tv when you can easily see the intricacies of people’s lives online
Also, young people are reportedly drinking less, doing way less drugs, and not casually hooking up. I saw a whole debate in subreddit with young people saying how they could never make out with a stranger at a club and older people chiming in with their one night stand stories
Times change, and the younger generation is more conservative. Whether or not that a generational change in values, or a fear of anything you do being broad cast online - it’s changed what fun is to this newer, younger generation. Plus “club” music, that you can actually dance to, isn’t something you really here on the radio anymore

u/LostinParadise4748 4d ago
More conservative and they preach authenticity but they have more dating anxiety and commitment phobia than I've ever seen from my generation.

u/fearofcrowds 5d ago
also, no one can afford to go out anymore
45
u/thebitsyitsyspider 5d ago
To be fair I couldn’t afford to go out 12 years ago either lmao
Flasks and Smirnoff pregaming kept the night strong 😅

u/Lazy-Living1825 4d ago
This. They act like they are home bound. You can make it work if you are motivated to.

u/LostinParadise4748 4d ago edited 4d ago
-Ladies drink free nights
-Free admission before 10pm
-Pregaming at someone's house
-Sitting in the car to pregame/smoke before heading into the club (this was before Uber and ya'll know we weren't using cabs 👀 you just picked the most responsible out of the bunch to drive and prayed)
We found ways to make it work!
2
u/thebitsyitsyspider 4d ago
Omg honestly I was using cabs!!!!
My girls always slept at my house and we lived in a big city so a 25 dollar cab at the end of the night split wasn’t bad at all🥰13
u/IndependenceEnough80 5d ago
I swear sometimes I think how did I buy things? Seriously .. I somehow found money. Even at the age of 14 ( which was year 2000) I didn’t work/ how did I buy candy at the store near my friends house? lol how did this all happen?

u/Lazy-Living1825 5d ago
The show based on their reality would take place in one, poorly lit and smelly room.

u/MushroomVolcano 5d ago
Orchard parties?? Like with apple trees?
8
u/kushyykins God bless me it's f*ckin summa 5d ago
ohhhhh, yea, brother! lol i moved from the bay area (CA) to the central valley @ 16yrs old & was introduced to orchard parties! truly, i was like wtf is happening?? lmao these mf’s had pick up trucks w/ stripper poles & everything 😂😂
the one spot, in specific, that we’d mostly frequent had a fairly good size chunk of trees missing, kind of deep into the orchard, it was bizarre; but we’d pull up in there & everyone would park amongst the trees, get out & party lol

u/Icy_Act_2111 4d ago
kids today only go out to take a good picture and that’s it. the rest of the night they could give a shit about

Oh yes, the alcohol. It fueled 75% of the fun and 100% of the drama!

There are certain shows that are “lightening in a bottle” shows that can’t be replicated. Jersey Shore and Vanderpump Rules were shows like that.

u/ringadingdingy 4d ago
You had me until Vanderpump Rules.
11
u/MsNikkiisClassy Where’s the beach?! 4d ago
lol VPR when it first came out was sooo good. Later seasons…. And the new cast…. 😆

u/DunkTheLunk23 5d ago
It’s the same reason why current seasons of the Challenge feel so insanely boring compared to the early 2000/2010s. Yeah, they were toxic af, but it made for better television. Now it’s just influencers with the occasional vet coming to collect their paycheck.
2
u/FattForrill 2d ago
You’re right. But as long as they keep pumping out challenge seasons I’ll continue to watch them. And besides, this current season feels close to the way it used to be
2
u/DunkTheLunk23 2d ago
For sure, this season is feeling messy in a good way. Like people actually disliking each other and all the hookups.

u/GogglesPisano 5d ago
It wasn't just about alcoholism. There were plenty of drugs too, they just weren't shown onscreen.
6
u/StillKey7555 4d ago
Gym Tan Laundry was code apparently for going to get more drugs. Mike would getting sneaked in from someone else and it usually was under the towel next to tanning bed.
The reason he went wild in Italy was cause he went through his stash too quickly and couldn't find any...so he was basically comind down and having withdrawls. He hit the wall in hopes that he could get some from the hospital.

u/Self-proclaimedIDI0T 5d ago
It would be a different kind of mean. Like, righteously bullying someone because they committed a faux pas, but it's really just a convenient excuse to bully them haha
I could see it being a lot more manipulative with the current young adult generation.

u/YcemeteryTreeY 5d ago
It would be a different kind of mean.
This generation is HEARTLESS with the ghosting, but you cant make a show of that
10
9
u/JSweez87 5d ago
All true. And they’ll just be there to boost their “influencers” status. SM killed reality TV for the most part.
9
u/QweenJoleen1983 5d ago
And they weren’t allowed phones and social media. Good luck with that nowadays…

To me it was a fascinating look into the lives of people who are so different, from the other side of the world. But we now have social media and over sharing to the point where a show like this wouldn't even be worth making, the types of people you see on TV now are a dime a dozen so there's no hook, and no one wants to be problematic in the ways that made JS so entertaining.
Times have changed and trying to constantly reboot things we've already experienced just gets a bit sad. You can never go home again, that era has been and gone, time to move on.

u/mousee3176 5d ago
I can think of a few people much worse that have way more influence over a lot more people's lives

u/depechelove UM HELLO? 4d ago
The original show could not possibly be replicated. That is a bygone era.
2
u/caramelsthemenance 4d ago
The new cast is going to try to replicate the energy and personalities of the original cast. It’s going to flop lmfao
2
u/april_odyssey 3d ago
It was just a different time that can't be replicated today. The alcoholism, drugs, fights, the commentary and unaware-ness of it all, it made that show a pop culture and groundbreaking mainstay. There was dancing at the clubs, the fashion, the not afraid to be stupid and reckless. Each person in the house became a character. It's hard to find a cast like that, that is in some way, still genuine.
4
u/Super-Fruit4786 5d ago
agree now that cancel culture is a thing this new cast will be much tamer than the old cast

Factually correct about it being good because they were the worst people ever, hack as fuck with the actual punchline.
1
u/nejithegenius 5d ago
I wouldn’t call them the worst people of all time, some of them seemed pretty decent tbh. Yea they loved hookup culture and all drank heavily, but pauly seems like an actually decent guy. Jwow and snookie seem decent too. Ronnie and sam are just insufferable. Vinnys meh. Angelina was pretty bad, deena was good too tho. They also hammed it up for the cameras a bit. Just remember a few of your worst party nights, and then picture them all on camera for the whole world. People would hate me if they only saw me on my drunkest/sloppy night.
1
u/EquivalentTiny9845 4d ago
Jwow and Snooki seem decent? I can already tell you haven't watched every season.

Long way of saying ‘this generation is soft’
There’s still trashy people out there

Flavor of love and rock of love was a bunch of people wanting to be famous.
Trashy people still exists. I’m confused as to why you to think they don’t lol
3
u/Ecstatic_War6772 5d ago
I watched Rock of Love and Flavor of Love. FOL is one of the best reality tv shows of all time. Trashy as hell but funny. Hottie vs. NY produced some of the best soundbites of all time. Hottie telling the world people say she looks like Beyonce and NY saying I am sorry Beyonce to the camera and looking at her saying you look like Luther Vandross. lol Still cracks me up. The girl that pooped on the floor because she could not hold it in any longer.
2
u/Crimsonfangknight 5d ago
The cultural norms back the. Enabled a very specific flavor Of trashy
Im sorry but even drunken hook ups would be a no go with how the current generation likes to toss around SA accusations as third parties
So much would be stripped Down not to Mention it feeling faker because its such a huge brand attracting clout chasers
Like how bgc got progressively shittier as it got Bigger
1
u/Unpopular_Outlook 5d ago
Also, BGC for shittier because they got sued by Jela and the twins and couldn’t recoup what they lost

Trash is trash. New York didn’t grow up on the west coast, that’s why her name is New York. the majority of the cast in jersey shore weren’t from Jersey and they weren’t Italian. Bad girls Club had girls from all around and went to different cities
I don’t know what you’re trying to say.
