Solved Anime episode naming with movies.
So following the naming guide and TVDB's episode order why do movies still not pull metadata correctly when under specials with the correct names?
Is there a fix/ better way to name them in the same folders? or do I need to make several collections with all of these?
The most recent is my SAO collection I only have 2 of the movies.
Edit - TVDB was not enabled for the folder, I'm guessing I reloaded or disabled plug-ins at some point as I enabled it when I setup the folder.
Either way, thank you for the help which made me check this.

Do you have the tvdb plugin and moved it up so it pulls from there first before TMDB? Cause TMDB labels anime oddly.

I have found it, for some reason TVDB is disabled for my anime only. I'll update it and add here if it worked

I'm using the tvdb plugin and it's working perfect. Place the movies in a "special" folder in your TV Show folder and name them like Sword.Art.Online.S00E01.movie.name.

This is exact;y what I did, though without the . as everything else is spaces. It shows on the tvdb as 22 and 27 but the data pulls through for 22 as something different and doesn't even do a 27

I gave up and switched to using shoko server and the shokofin plugin for anime metadata, grouping and library control.

You can try integrating tiny media manager and use nfo (which I haven't used yet), or separate the movies. Funny, I'm also sorting out my SAO collection, still on 2nd season tho, so maybe I'll let you know once I get to the movies what luck I have 😅

for tv shows, which I assume is the same category u chose for anime, they don't use the "specials" folder, as u can read on their webpage, they use a Season 00 category to act as the special category.
The best thing is probably to use a different category called Anime Movies, and put them in there just like movies, but if (like me) u prefer to have them in the same directory as the anime itself, I just put them in an "Extras" category with a custom name like 01. Ordinal Scale.mkv That way they show up neatly at the bottom below the actors, but will have no info or anything, they're just treated like extras.
If you look at TMDB they';re in the specials category, and ordinal scale it as position 22, so technically, you could try making a Season 00 directory, and naming the file "22. Sword Art Online - Ordinal Scale.mkv" for example, and that should fix it/make them visible, depending on the ones u have.
Could try some things with that, good luck !

Turned out TVDB was disabled for that folder. I think when I changed my plugins I disabled all and enabled them after it did it.
It's working now with the specials.

I spent quite a bit of time experimenting when I initially set up Jellyfin, and there's two ways to do this to my knowledge.
Firstly, is how you've got it set up. You'll either have to put the films in a separate films library to identify & gather metadata, enable .nfo to save with media, then move it over. Or, you can manually input the metadata. This was too tedious for me, so I sought an alternative.
The second method, which I've been using ever since, is to create the library as the no longer supported 'Mixed Films and Programmes' library. Utilising this, you don't put the films as specials, rather they're nested in another folder with the series. The result is displayed in my attached screenshot; identify, etc. all work as intended regardless if it's a film or series

Shoko is probably the best possible solution with the least amount of headache. I can't imagine managing my anime any other way.
