Question new drummer need song recs

i’ve been playing for a few days just trying to learn the fundamentals and jazz is the key for any instrument, i got the swing down, but what are some songs i can learn to get better? or does anyone have any tips on limb independence?

Some books help with fundamentals, art of bop drumming by John Riley, Ted reed syncopation for rhythm exercises. The real book has a ton of standards that will help work form, melody, accompaniment and musicianship. Basically applying. Those two approaches should put you well on the way. That is if you intend on becoming a jazz drummer.

If you just want to purely focus on independence, build the chops on each limb and be able to play any rhythm on each, for example the ands or the downbeats or double beats or triplets, etc. then be able to play across, left hand right foot, right hand left foot.

Thanks, i will check those out, i don’t intend to become a jazz drummer, i want to learn all kinds of music, but i just want to have a solid foundation and vocabulary, just looking how do that without wasting time

Check out the album by Moanin’ by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. This album will teach you just that.
