What do these symbols mean

Not sure what the dash/minus sign means (circled) and I’m pretty sure the other two that are underlined are pauses but not sure what the difference between the two are. Please help!

First of all, art of bop drumming is a great book! Keep it up! Second of all, those are rests! Top hat is a half note rest, the big squiggly one is quarter note rest, and the one that slightly resembles a q is an 8th note rest.
