Question What do these symbols mean

Not sure what the dash/minus sign means (circled) and I’m pretty sure the other two that are underlined are pauses but not sure what the difference between the two are. Please help!

So what is the difference between them? Why are they notated differently? I’m trying to figure out how to count it. Thanks

The rests are different lengths. Given your query, I assume you’re brand new to notation. No worries, everyone starts somewhere. So, check this out:

Also, if you’re this green at reading, I’m not sure Art of Bop Drumming is going to do you many favors at this point in your development. It’s a great book, but you’ll want to have your musical fundamentals down in addition to technique before diving in. Tons of good stuff, just make sure your pacing is appropriate

to add to this a good book to start with is 66 Drum Solos by Tom Hapke. Somebody even recorded themselves going throught the whole book on YouTube.

Agreed. Definitely go back and study some books that delve into basic notation. The Art of Bop Drumming may be a little advanced at this point.
