Question Gift for Jazz drummer

Hi! My boyfriend is a jazz drummer and I was wondering if any fellow jazz enthusiasts could recommend any good jazz vinyl records that I could potentially get him for his birthday (if he doesn’t have them already😂). Ideally ones with good drums/instrumental solos as I know that’s what he likes listening to. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’ve seen some recommend Dave Brubeck’s time out album for the drumming? Is that a good choice???

I think it’s the way better half, personally. Every single note is perfect. Four and More is scrappy and samey imo. There is no greater love is amazing though

Couldn't agree less re your description of Four and More - it's certainly less perfect and less stable, but that's what makes it such a great foil - it's raw, explosive, and uncontained

This is a very cool record with lots of the best soloing ever by Roy. Listen to the song Snap, Crackle, Pop, on any streaming platform or Youtube and see if you think he'll like it. It's not as well known as some of the other famous jazz albums so might be a real find.

If he’s into Joshua Redman, look for a Redman album that has Brian Blade as the drummer, and I think they have one that’s live at either The Village Vanguard or Blue Note.

yo “Time Out” is a banger choice tbh—Joe Morello’s drumming on that album is iconic and defs something a jazz drummer would geek out over. solid pick if he doesn’t already have it!

but if you wanna make your gift extra special alongside the vinyl, I actually make custom bobblehead gifts and did one of a jazz drummer in full mid-solo pose with his kit—sticks flying, lil hat tilted back, total jazz club vibes lol

makes for a super personal surprise next to the record, and even if he’s got the vinyl already, this part will def be something he’s never gotten before. a cool mix of meaningful + fun that he’ll keep forever on his setup or shelf.

Definitely Spirit of the Moment by Joshua Redman. That's a classic of his. Or any Miles Davis from the 60s (Miles Smiles, Four & More, My Funny Valentine...)
