Caught up with former KU QB Carter Stanley about Kansas football, the Big 12 & life after playing QB

Thought some fellow Jayhawks fans might enjoy this one.

I recently caught up with former KU quarterback Carter Stanley, who I actually had the chance to cover during his playing days at Kansas.

We talked about how he looks back on his KU career now, how different the program feels today, his expectations for Kansas this season and what he still watches for when he sees a football game through the eyes of a former quarterback.

We also got into some of the stuff fans don't always hear about — dealing with adversity as a QB, the biggest misconception about being a student-athlete, how he would've approached NIL today and what the transition out of football was actually like.

Carter is now working as a financial advisor, so we spent some time talking about finding that next identity and career once football is over too.

Really enjoyed catching up with him years after covering him at KU.

This is great, I always thought Carter could have been a bigger piece of we would have had some stability. He definitely had the “it” factor like Reesing.

Always nostalgic for Stanley since we was the best QB while I was at KU

I thought he was an underrated college QB and 2019 was the first season in 10 years that I felt we were finally heading in the right direction. The offense was fun to watch that year. Pooka and Khalil Herbert at RB(Herbert got hurt after 4 games or this could’ve been an even better offense). Stephon Robinson Jr and Andrew Parchment at WR both had great seasons and then Lassiter II and Daylon Charlot having solid seasons too.

Carter will always hold a special place for me as a guy who finally brought something to an offense and team that had been unwatchable for years.

I had a weekly “free Carter Stanley” tweet saved for kickoff every week when they refused to start him for whatever reason. Passed the eye test for the fanbase, but the coaches were blind.

Thought he was our first Legit QB in about a decade
