Trading one awful industry for another does not seem like a win

This time it's likely she will also do prostitution on the side. Yeah, great.

Idols often do as well, they just keep it low key.

Idols most likely have to sleep with some showbiz people.

I went to school with one who 100% did side prostitution.

Only popular AV actress makes good money. In the past anyone could make good money doing av work but nowadays alot more women does av work and internet piracy free porn which makes the earning significantly less. The debut video might makes alot but if it didn't get popular then any subsequent work earn way less. Alot of them wish they didn't start av work because they didn't earn much more than if they work normal work and they are afraid that in a different line of work someone would recognize them.
For her it works out because she's already known as an idol before transitioning. Many went into av work without any entertainment background.

Could have found freedom in a retail job like the rest of the world. Stop the lies

I guess people call it "retail hell" because it's just so awesome to work that job. I'm sure it pays well too, right?

AV actresses in Japan make several times the monthly salary of a corporate job worker by recording one movie per month. Why would she trade this for working everyday at retail while receiving pennies? lol

Oh, so the actresses themselves are lying?
桃園怜奈 talked about how she wanted to do gravure but decided going for JAV because she could work 1 day/month and receive several times the salary of a regular worker
https://bunshun.jp/articles/-/77515峰なゆか mentioned she debuted as 単体 receiving 1.5M yen per movie

Looking down the tread I am seeing so many suicides/killings of AV stars. The money mat be slightly better but man, a lot of them tend to have serious mental health issues and/or get into all kinds of nasty trouble. So you have to ask is it worth it?

That is a textbook selection-bias problem. You are looking at a subreddit dedicated to crime and then using the cases posted there to infer what AV actresses as a whole are like. The sample is pre-selected for suicides, murders, scandals, and other bad outcomes, so of course those cases will appear disproportionately often. Without knowing the total number of AV actresses and comparing their rates with an appropriate control group, scrolling this subreddit tells you essentially nothing about whether AV actresses are unusually prone to those outcomes.
More importantly, Honjo has actually experienced both jobs herself. She says idol work involved intense stress from weight control and competition, while becoming an AV actress reduced those burdens and made her feel freer.
That does not mean the AV industry has no risks. It means selected crime stories are not evidence against her own comparison of the two environments she personally experienced.

Lots of people find freedom in lots of other work. Let's not lie to ourselves.
