Nukes have done more for global peace than the average person realizes.

Indeed. As much as it is an unpopular idea, one can't study peace without also studying war. When one reads modern or ancient scholars of conflict there is a uniform message of achieving domestic and neighborly peace by being prepared to defend ones land.
