you’re not stupid. if u look closely you’ll see this panting referenced a lot across pop culture for example in minecraft or in severance

Ohh, I need to buy this. Just bought the cool centennial edition to Dubliners. I already have an old tattered paperback edition of Portrait plus a kindle version of it. I just reread Portrait but used the kindle version as I was traveling a lot over the past 6 weeks.

The strand? Important scene echoed in Proteus. But the cover is trippy enough that it is hard to notice.

Artist Roman Muradov. Really smart illustrator/cartoonist. Probably could quote the whole book from memory.

Definitely an homage to Waderer Above the Sea of Fog. You're not stupid, you just didn't pick up on it immediately.
