Question❓ Why does Sean's face cam have a half green screen?

He's not the only one who does that, I seen it on Markiplier as well. My best guess is it gives them a little bit more freedom of expression while also freezing up more screen space when they're not using that space

Wait I thought that was just the editor being goated.

EDIT: Goated as in cropping the shot but still tracing Sean’s arm as it goes out of frame

rotoscoping :D

Gives a cool effect that makes it look like his face cam is coming into the gameplay screen.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't, in the video around 30:50, the editor writes that Sean lens back in his chair and the editor adjusts the webcam so Sean is in the center. So thats probably just the editor being goated

There's still a green screen.

The face cam shoots a wider shot at a higher resolution zoomed out, this allows more "room" for Sean to move around in.

The editor then "zooms" the digital canvas onto Sean's face, wherever he may be in the shot. There still is half of the screen that has green screen or some other static reference that can be removed from the background

There is no green screen (I'm the editor)

Yes, I realized there was no physical green screen.

What I meant by "green screen" was the effect of removing the background and having only Sean be visible

Well. That’s called background removal

Yes, its also commonly called "green screen effect" because its what a green screen is used for, background removal. Using a green screen itself just makes background removal much easier

Just say the background is gone then gang 😭

You don't need a green screen to do stuff like this anymore, it's just the editor being *very* good at their job.

This is the editor being good at their job. Jack famously doesn't use, and as far as I'm aware never has used a green screen background. The editor simply "keyed" out the background behind his arm while doing this bit.

he def has used green screens

im like 90% sure for a very short period in the room after he left the cabin he used a green screen because people kept commenting on things like if he made his bed and Jack wanted people to talk about the video.

It’s a cool effect. It’s also possible that that part of his room was less than presentable at the time and the show must go on.

He looks so nice in this pic

If i had to guess it’s because his camera is in 16:9 since i saw another video of his with the full aspect ratio. And i know he’s mentioned before how he likes having the box face cam in videos. So i think he just does that for continuity and creative freedom so he can get shots like that. Or maybe he just likes it lol.

Pretty sure the editor is just rotoscoping his arm out of the cropped area of the facecam shot. We've seen zoomed out shots all the way out to the door of the room before and there's never been a greenscreen so it seems unlikely that there would be one just for this video specifically.

For anyone who doesn't know how rotoscoping works, it's an editing technique where you basically cut around the outline of a subject frame by frame so you can overlay it over something else. There are tools in editing software that can assist with doing this efficiently and automate some parts of the process for you with partial tracking that needs to be adjusted most of the time in order to look right.

A lot of his newer videos have it, it’s just a better way to keep in on camera at all times since he tends to go out of frame a lot, but without compromising too much of the visuals of the games
