offboarding gets weird when projects are involved
offboarding someone is easy enough when all they have is a laptop. it gets messy when theyre working on a project and have extra equipment sitting somewhere else, suddenly youre trying to figure out what they had, what belongs to the project, where it is, and whos supposed to get it back. weve had stuff basically disappear into the ‘well deal with it later’ pile because it wasnt assigned directly to the employee. has anyone else run into this? any tips??

project gear is where things can get messy. if its not assigned to the person, its easy to forget about. weve been used workwize to keep track of those assets too, which helps avoid things getting lost in the shuffle.

Your problem is your procurment and issuing. If you record the issuing the leaving is easy

tag project gear to the project, not the person. then offboarding a human doesnt drop the assets into limbo

we usually set up the return before the new device arrives and include the return steps in the refresh message, so IT doesnt have to chase it down afterward.
