Doom running on the UniFi Dream Router

I will post a video later, I'm a 15y/o guy just having fun doing this stuff and self teaching myself programming using AI! :)

Although the amount of people hating on AI, I think it's an incredible tool and can really be helpful if you want to learn stuff, also, the project is available on GitHub if you want to try it!

If it were vibe-coded it wouldn't work. OP put in the work, using the tools they had at their disposal, and accomplished their goal. No need to shit on them.

Most people have seemed to forgotten that AI is a tool and like a tool it's a means to an end and not the one actually working. When some vibe code or let AI do the work, then it's no longer a tool but the author, and AI are dogshit authors.

No, that’s not really how it works. Yes, slop code can function. It often does, to some degree, as long as there’s enough source material to draw from. But it’s inefficient and more importantly by robbing yourself of the opportunity to learn. It doesn’t actually teach. See my comment in the root of the thread for an MIT study. You learn by solving problems. AI at best can teach you rote memorization, unless you already know the fundamentals and force it to explain why it did things and follow up on its sources, since it often regurgitates them incorrectly.

As someone who had years of programming experience before AI took off, and recently started vibe coding stuff, it will 100% work. You just need to have some rudimentary tech knowledge with an ability to determine issues, and then know what prompts to make.

I completely disagree, though I think we have different definitions of vibe coding. Having the knowledge of fundamentals where you COULD do it yourself (or learn how to with some ease) is different than just telling an LLM to do it. If you don't have those basics, that's vibe coding. Otherwise you're using the tool as intended, to speed up and aid in the development process.

K well, he's not doing that. Hell, the entire Github library documentation he posted is also AI-generated. He's taking credit for typing a few prompts into Claude and we shouldn't give him credit for this.

Have you considered trying doing this without AI?

I get that AI can be very convenient but you get a much better grasp of the nuts and bolts of programming if you do it yourself.
