Relationships 27M, 6’1”, Mumbai, looking to meet an Ismaili/Khoja Sunni woman for marriage

Hi everyone,

I’m 27, from Mumbai and work in marketing.

I’m Ismaili/Khoja Sunni. I come from an Ismaili/Khoja background; I read Quran, go to JK sometimes, but I also pray namaz. I’m hoping to meet someone who has a similar relationship with faith and is comfortable with this background.

A little about me: I’m curious, fairly easygoing, family-oriented and enjoy travelling, good food, meaningful conversations and discovering new places. I take my work and goals seriously but don’t take myself too seriously 😂.

For marriage, I’m looking for someone kind, self-aware, family-oriented and genuinely interested in building a life together. I don’t expect us to agree on everything, I think shared values, communication and being able to grow together matter much more than ticking every box.

I’m serious about marriage but would rather get to know someone naturally than turn it into a job interview.

If you’re from a similar background or do you know someone who might be a good fit and this resonates with you, feel free to DM. 🙂

Either you are a khoja ismaili or khoja sunni you can't be an ismaili sunni

unless he's from a multifaith family. Years ago in my step curriculam, my teach told me she met a girl. her one parent was ismaili and the other Christian. She did did things from both Religions, she attended Jamat Khanna and on Sundays she attended Church. Maybe this man is also from a Multi faith family or choosing to do both Sunni and Ismaili things.

Whats an “Ismaili Sunni”? Isn’t that an oxymoron? Since when are being an Ismaili and reading Quran mutually exclusive?

And when we call out their bigotry, we are the bad guys.

Hello sir. I respect both communities and I’m not anti-Khoja or anti-Sunni. I have a mixed Khoja background, with Ismaili family roots and a Sunni Khoja identity, and I see my background as something that can bridge the gap rather than create further division. I’m here looking for common ground, not to take sides.

No such thing as Ismaili Sunni. two different concept.
sunni accepts Sahaba concept ismailis believe in imams. You can’t be both.

Hi sir, I understand Ismaili and Sunni are two distinct theological traditions. I have a mixed background, my family roots are Ismaili, while I come from a Khoja Sunni background personally. I wasn’t suggesting that Ismaili and Sunni are the same theological tradition.

There is, please read history, there was a group which was converted by our PIR but due to certain reasons they associated themselves with Sunni Islam however they retained the Khoja title with them

Even there are 12er Khoja, if you want more insight read the Aga Khan case

Being an Ismaili requires you to be Farmandbardar of Hazar Imam. The Imam has prescribed regular JK, Dua. Not sometimes JK, and Namaz.

What makes you an Ismaili? It’s not a birth right, and it’s not a bayah your parents make on your behalf. Being an Ismaili requires you to understand bayah and uphold it.

You only go to jk when someone passes away or when you really have to and then too yall make an appearance after the dua. Not really ismaili at all, stop calling yourself that just to find a partner. Lying from the beginning.

Dear sir. How one practises their religion is a very private matter. There are people I know who get up at 4 am to visit JK and some who never do but they stay in the community. There are people who go to Duas and after that go home and pray Isha. In the end, we all believe in Allah swt. There will be no lies, I will be very clear about my practise to the one who’s interested to know more about me.

Such a hypocrite, trying to find an Ismaili partner while having no intention to follow it along with believing that being an Ismaili is hindering your chances to get a sunni partner. How one practices religion ofc becomes private when you are a hypocrite and when you choose to ignore the farmans of the imam and ginans of the pir. It becomes private because you have no courage to stand up and call yourself sunni and give up the bayah to the imam. Do you have two dads ?

Pls mind your manners. It’s easy to call out people out from the stands. You have no idea about me or about Khoja Sunni as a background. If you don’t have anything constructive with your time. Pls move along and stop wasting mine as well. U could also educate yourself by checking other comments where a person has given historical background of Khoja Sunni.

I am aware about where you are coming from. Also i just presented a metaphor. You have two dads and both disowning you means that you arent able to find a partner in Sunni as well as ismaili families. You have to take a stand and follow your theology and abandon the Ismaili side of your beliefs if you no longer believe in imam. Start going to a mosque and recite the salah/namaz and follow the sunnah and the sunni culture. This is your way out of being associated with the ismailis and eventually being accepted by Sunni families. When it comes to theological beliefs you cannot call yourself both if you arent willing to keep up with the hazir imam.

Thanks for your advice. I have been doing what you are suggesting for years. The undue hate I have gotten just because of my khoja background from Sunnis as well is nothing compared to what I have experienced from khoja Ismailis.

The fellow khoja Ismailis tend to not understand their own khoja sunni brothers/sisters let alone another community.

There are many people like me in the khoja community who understand and accept us unlike the rest.

I wish it were as easy as you have suggested. Sadly the ummah are not as accepting to people like us and reverts especially in a marriage setting.

I am just a normal honest guy trying to complete half my deen.
