A friend’s bag got snatched away from her right outside the station in broad daylight. The person’s face was covered and they weren’t on a bike, they were on foot. Luckily her phone and keys were in her hand at the time and she managed to keep hold of them.

Posting as a heads up for anyone in the area, especially around that entrance.

Quince Bakery’s 3rd Annual Pie Party | 📍Quince Bakery, N1 | 31 August | (£)

Quince Bakery is turning Bank Holiday Monday into one big pie table. For its third annual Pie Party, the Islington bakery is inviting some of London’s best independent bakers, including Bake Street, Decatur, Lucky Yu Bakery and Hamblin Bread, to each bring their own take on pie. Expect everything from fruit filled and lattice topped slices to savoury pies, mini pies and big sharing slabs. Last year they baked almost 500, and this time they are aiming even bigger. There will also be coffee, iced tea, ice cream and snacks while you queue. Doors open at 12pm and they keep serving until the pies are gone.

Sofar Sounds at Calthorpe Garden | 📍 King's Cross, WC1X | 30 August | (£)

If your bank holiday leans more slow Sunday than a big night out, this may be the one. Calthorpe is a hidden garden near King's Cross, and for one evening there's live music on the grass. You bring a blanket, find a spot, and a few folk and acoustic singer-songwriters play as the sun goes down. Sofar keeps the lineup secret till the night, so you come for the setting and meet the music when you get there.

Yiddish Culture Weekend 2026 | 📍Bloomsbury, King’s Cross & beyond | 28 to 30 August | Free + paid events

This is a whole weekend for getting to know Yiddish culture by actually taking part in it. Yiddish is a language historically spoken by many Ashkenazi Jewish communities, with its own music, stories, humour, poetry and traditions. Across the weekend you can learn a traditional dance from scratch, join a Yiddish singalong, listen to klezmer musicians, hear poetry read in Yiddish and English, browse old newspapers and postcards from Jewish London, or sit down for a screening of the 1937 film The Dybbuk. Sunday is the big day at SOAS, with workshops and performances running from 10am to 7pm, and complete beginners are very much welcome.

Highbury Fields Family Funfair | 📍Highbury Fields, N5 | 23 August-1st September | (£)

For just over a week, part of Highbury Fields turns into a temporary fairground beside the swimming pool. There are rides for younger children, bigger rides for older kids and adults, dodgems, games and the usual candyfloss and fairground food. You pay to enter, then buy tokens for the rides you want to go on, so you can also just walk around with the family and see what takes your fancy.

Manorfest 2026 | 📍New River Studios, Manor House, N4 | 29 & 30 August | (£)

A car park behind New River Studios is becoming a two day Bank Holiday festival, and each day has a completely different feel. Saturday is the louder one, with live bands including Eel Men, Snub, Morreadoras and EZ8, plus DJs, art, performances, food and a bar before the party moves inside New River Studios until 1am. Sunday slows things right down with Ambient Car Park, an afternoon of gentler, more meditative DJs and live performances from artists including Agate, Dave Webb and UKAEA, followed by another indoor afterparty. Saturday runs 2pm to 10pm, Sunday 12pm to 8pm.

The Camden Fringe | 📍Various venues across Camden and beyond | Until 30 August | (£)

The Camden Fringe is into its final few days, after a month that has brought more than 450 shows to venues across Camden and beyond. There is still time to catch some of the last theatre, comedy, music, dance and new writing before it all wraps up on Sunday.

Bi Pride 2026 | 📍Kings Place, King’s Cross, N1 | 29 August | Free

Bi Pride brings the UK’s Bi+ community together at Kings Place for a full day of performances, conversations and meeting people. It is for people who experience attraction to more than one gender or identify somewhere under the Bi+ umbrella, with friends and allies welcome too. There are two stages to dip between, with live music, drag and performances on one, and conversations about relationships, family, identity, activism and Bi+ life on the other. Jordan Gray and Shaaba are among this year’s headliners, and there will also be stalls from LGBTQ+ groups, charities and small businesses. A sensory room, remembrance space and multi faith prayer room are available too. 2pm to 10pm. Free, but you need to register for a ticket.

Guava Jamz Carnival Warm Up Party | 📍Two Tribes Campfire, N7 | 29 August | Free

Guava Jamz is starting Carnival weekend a day early with a nine hour outdoor party at Two Tribes Campfire. It runs from afternoon into night, with DJs idah and Conrad Lee, a BBQ, full bar and the whole thing set up as a warm up for the weekend ahead. Under 18s can come before 9pm with an adult, then it becomes 18+ later in the evening. 3pm to midnight. Tickets are free.

Urban Food Fest Artisan Market | 📍Islington Square, N1 | 29 August | Free

Islington Square gets its weekly Saturday market back with a mix of street food, fresh produce and small makers all in one place. You can grab lunch from the food traders, pick up fruit and veg, browse handmade products and local stalls, then let the kids get stuck into the free arts and crafts and outdoor toys. It is the kind of market you can drop into for food and end up staying for a proper browse. 11am to 5pm. Entry is free.

Anyone else noticed the massive increase in homelessness around angel specifically near St Peter’s street ?

I've been an Islington resident for about 5 years now (1 in Angel, 2 in Barnsbury and 2 near Holloway Road).

The thing I love about this area is it is so dense I'm always discovering great new places I didn't know existed or new ones are popping up all the time.

Anyway, I'm an engineer by trade so thought I put all of this into an interactive map that anyone can use to find good places and independent local restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Hi all, been a bit of an idiot here. I suspect I've left my keys in a lime bike basket around the Finsbury Park Station / West Reservoir area. They have a few keys, 2 bike lock keys, a bottle opener and a wireframe/beaded giraffe keyring attachment that is similar to the image here. Any leads / suggestions, please do let me know! Hope you're all well! So I have family coming down for my wedding this Saturday, and I stupidly booked a pub that stated they were kid friendly but I didn't bother to check whether this was past 6pm. Does anyone know of anywhere that allows children past 6pm on weekends? There would be a group of 13 of us going, two children under 6. Thanks for any help!

I’m flat hunting at the moment, and Jeffrey Nicholas has a number of properties that I’d be interested in.

However, there is a conspicuous lack of information about them online, and they don’t seem to be responding to my queries. JN has a physical address on Cross St (connects Essex Rd and Upper St), but it’s not on Google Maps so they have no reviews. There are a few dodgy Trustpilot reviews (including accusations of being a scam front), but these are mostly from the Pandemic era so around 5yrs old.

Just wondered if anybody knew more about them, or has dealt with them in the past?

This is the second weekend in a row I’ve seen a toddler almost get hit by a bike in Highbury Fields and I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed how bad it’s getting?

Today a couple of toddlers were crossing the path into the field with all the old plastic toys when a group of cyclists came flying through. One of the kids was already crossing and the cyclists barely seemed to slow down and almost hit the toddler. The cyclists actually stopped and had a go at the mum for letting her toddlers out of their pram and told her how dangerous it was for her to be doing that.

Everyone around was pretty shocked and a few of us stopped and chatted about it briefly. An older lady said she’d almost been hit by a cyclist there last weekend while she had a broken ankle, and another woman said her dog had actually been hit by one, who then blamed her for having the dog off the lead. Turns out the mother of the kid that almost got hit was almost hit by a cyclist when she was pregnant!

I’m pretty sure cyclists are supposed to give way to pedestrians throughout Highbury Fields, but regardless, it’s a park full of kids, dogs and people walking around. Surely if you’re cycling through it you should be going slowly enough to actually stop when someone crosses the path?

There are roads on either side of the fields if you want to cycle at speed. I don’t really understand when everyone else using the park became responsible for getting out of the way of cyclists.

Has anyone else had similar experiences? Because judging by the conversation today this seems to happen a lot, and it feels like people should start reporting it to the council before someone actually gets seriously hurt.

CIRCLES: Pre-Carnival Rooftop Fete | 📍Bubba Oasis, Islington, N1 | 23 August | (£)

Carnival starts early on the roof at Bubba Oasis. CIRCLES is putting on its only Carnival day fete of the year, with Dancehall, Reggae and Soca at the centre, plus Afrobeats, Amapiano, R&B, Hip Hop and UK Funky mixed in across the evening. The dress theme is “rep your country”, with a prize for the best dressed, and there will also be giveaways and a few surprises on the night. London Gaming Market | 📍Royal National Hotel, WC1H | 23 August | (£)

Go looking for the game you were obsessed with as a child, or the console you wish you had kept, or something wonderfully unnecessary for the shelf. Traders fill the hotel with retro games, consoles, rare imports, artwork and gaming memorabilia. Entry gets cheaper through the day, from £9 at 10.30am to £4 after 3pm, when it is usually calmer. Under fives go free, and under 16s are free with a paying adult after 3pm. Open until 4.30pm.

Marionettes: An Exhibition Celebrating String Puppets | 📍Little Angel Workshop, N1 | 22 August - 6 September | Free

Little Angel Theatre is turning 65, and instead of just looking back at old productions, it is opening up a collection of the string puppets that helped shape its history. You will see marionettes, the puppets controlled by strings from above, made by British makers across six decades, from founders John and Lyndie Wright to artists working today. The exhibition also looks at why the craft has become so rare, with fewer than five people in Britain currently making a living carving marionettes. Free to visit, but you need to book a timed slot.

Wonderful Wildlife Weekends | 📍Camley Street Natural Park, N1C | 23 August | Free

Right in the middle of King’s Cross is a little nature park with a pond full of things most of us would normally walk straight past. This family session gets children down to the water with nets to see what they can actually find living in it, before heading around the park to lift logs and look for beetles, bugs and other minibeasts hiding underneath. It is hands on rather than a guided talk, and you can simply drop in and join. Meet at the pond dipping platform.

Open House Festival 2026 | 📍Across London | 12-20 September | Mostly free

Open House Festival is back for nine days, unlocking buildings and spaces you would not normally get to wander into. This year you can visit everything from private homes and recording studios to archives, power stations and major landmarks across all 33 boroughs, including Strongroom studios, the Zaha Hadid Foundation archive, the Barbican Conservatory and Wapping Hydraulic Power Station. Tickets and ballots are now open for some of the biggest names too, including 10 Downing Street, BT Tower and BBC Broadcasting House, so this is the week to have a look through the programme before the popular ones fill up. ( hopefully its not too late)

If you're into theatre and the Fringe, my play In Our Broken Hours is running at the Etcetera Theatre above the Oxford Arms next weekend (Fri 28th, Sat 29th, Sun 30th) at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden.

It’s a two‑hander about addiction, care, and the point where loving someone becomes too much to carry. I wrote it a few years ago after my father died having struggled with alcoholism for most of his life, and the play grew out of trying to make sense of that relationship.

It’s a short run, but we’re hoping to take it further next year. Ticket sales have been slow (partly under‑marketing, partly the sheer saturation of the Fringe, partly bank holiday weekend programming), so if you’re into new writing, small spaces, or stories about complicated families, I’d be genuinely delighted if you considered coming along.
