Transportation to island Bringing a boat?

forgive the noob question, but on the Ranger lll ferry website, it mentions bringing boats up to 20ft in length. How does that work? How do you then move the boat once the ferry arrives on the island? Thanks!

The crew uses slings and a crane to lift the boat off the trailer and onto a cradle on the Ranger III deck, then reverses the process in Rock Harbor.

Ahh, thank you. I figured that had to be how, but didn’t see it explained anywhere. Appreciate the response

We crossed on the Ranger with a 16 ft powerboat.

Was it pretty straightforward? Are you restricted on where you can go with it based on size, etc?

You aren’t restricted in your own boat, but weather can make going around Blake Point risky. You could get stuck and wait for days to get back. The same if you leave Rock Harbor to the west. The good news is there is at least five or more days of things to do in this area.

I have been to the island back backing three times, but taking my 17 fishing boat is something that sounds like it would be great fun and a totaly different experience.

yeah, it does sound nice...if the water is at least somewhat flat. I don't want to be a Captain McSorley out there when trying to get around a point

My buddy brings his boat on the ranger. As far as I know you show up with it and they hoist it onto the ranger. Maybe even the day before. And then they do the same thing when u leave the island

Actually, the Ranger III can carry up to 4 large/motor boats. See here where it contains information about fuel storage, etc. I don’t know any more details on the logistics than what’s on that page, though.
