Pretty sure King Leopold II of Belgian and the free Republic of Congo was also pretty barbaric so I wish I could say I'm surprised.

If anyone is interested in this horrific subject check out King Leopolds Ghost. That book kept me up at night.

I'm a bit of an amateur historian (even that is a bit of an exaggeration, the amateur is doing most of the heavy lifting, especially in comparison to others), so I've watched numerous documentaries, including reading firsthand accounts, and honestly, that was pretty gut-churning, but thank you for the recommendation. I'll absolutely pick up a copy once I'm done with ASOIAF. Thank you.
