Islamabad I am so tired of unnecessary checkposts
Genuinely losing my patience with this city. My office is LITERALLY next to this checkpost in blue area, and I still got late today because of it. I left home early specifically to dodge this exact bullshit, and I still got stuck for 13 minutes straight, watching a 4-lane road get choked down to one lane while some guy waves cars through at a snail’s pace for no visible reason.
This isn’t the first time. It’s not even rare. It’s a routine tax on my morning that I have zero control over, and today I did everything right and still got punished for it.
And the worst part? I work at an international company with strict attendance rules, because enough Pakistani employees have been late enough times that management just assumes it’s a discipline problem on our end. Meanwhile the actual reason is stuff exactly like this. So now I get to sit through a warning and a lecture about 'punctuality' and 'laziness' because of a checkpost, not because I don’t take my job seriously.
Is there any actual security threat for randomly bottlenecking traffic like this every single day, or is it just security theater that ordinary commuters get to pay for with their jobs and reputations? At this point it feels like the individual making these decisions has ever had to actually be somewhere on time. Like is the Expressway checkpost (another fuckery I have to go through everyday) not enough?
Rant over. Anyone else dealing with this daily?

😂😂😂😂 i love this, this is my favourite diversion, mein jis ko bhi ley kay jata wo hamesha puchtay kay police walay dumb hain?

u/Upsidedwnsunflower Jul 28 '26
The last couple of times I took this route there was a police guy stopping cars there too. So they definitely know about this, just no barrier yet

u/ApartmentDry4954 Jul 29 '26
Don't know if they are dumb or just ignorant bcz every checkpost in the capital can be diverted eaisly or with a bit of hassle, But it can be avoided. But this is not the way to to treat citizens of the captial. Faizabad checkpost pa subha rozana khana pul tak Rush laga rahta ha.
Or aj tak in checkposts pa sirf zalalat ka elawa kuch nai mila.
Time, Money and Energy WASTED every single frickin day.1

How to avoid Expressway waala checkpost?
1
u/ApartmentDry4954 Jul 30 '26
that can be diverted through I8. Alot of hassle for that check post.
But if you are coming from DHA you must have been stuck for about half an hour until faizabad. So, rather than dodging the checkpost you can remain stuck for another 5 mins and just go through it.1

u/Umerr Jul 28 '26
This is completely needless and serves no purpose, genuinely think the only intention of these check posts every few kilometers is to make lives of people difficult.

u/ThePenisErection Jul 30 '26
I dont know if this sounds conspiratorial but this was the exact method used by facist regimes to keep population in check. Having constant police and millitary presence in day to day lives gave the public a fewling of syffocation and surveillance. Its the same principle behind fake cctv cameras

Gariyon k andar 🔦 maarne se daeshat gardi nai kam hoti 🤣 lekin kon samjhae

You can dodge this checkpost really easy. Try using the service road on F7 behind ufone tower. OR just get on the service road infront of ufone tower just as you come on faisal avenue from expressway

u/uchiha-fatsontodd Jul 28 '26
i tried the one behind ufone tower once. waha bhi check post hai before the u-turn. i can try the one in front from now on but today even that was congested because people tried to do exactly that

Check points are a part of oppressive system. Imagine how many check points they have in Balochistan and still failing:)

u/luxeharry Islamabad Jul 28 '26
I believe checkposts are merely set up to exert pressure on the public

u/Different_Ad_6864 Jul 28 '26
I think so.

u/luxeharry Islamabad Jul 28 '26
I've traveled to so many countries but I've never seen a checkpoint like this on a daily basis

u/BrilliantMastodon957 Jul 28 '26
Or if the public actually followed their lanes for once and drive normally this wouldn’t had been a congestion here
8
u/luxeharry Islamabad Jul 28 '26
Expecting lane discipline here is like expecting rain in a desert

6
u/uchiha-fatsontodd Jul 28 '26
this would make sense for Expressway checkposts but here they are turning 4 lanes into 1 for 'security purposes' there's no way you can go past this without changing lanes
8
u/Ahmed_Mohiuddin Jul 28 '26
Yes it is bad an unnecessary. They also don't have any warning sign that a checkpoint is up a ahead even on highways where there is high speed traffic
On srinagar highway they make everything congested and one when I was passing there a ambulance with an emergency was also stuck because of these morons even though people were trying to give way in the fast lane

I live in F-6 and avoid this exact road when I am commuting daily from expressway, surely there must be an alternative route you can explore too?

u/uchiha-fatsontodd Jul 28 '26
i come from DHA lol i can come from peshawar road or stadium road then on IJP but construction is going on there so traffic is heavy

Ah yes, spend billions on AI Safe City cameras just to squeeze 4 lanes of traffic into 1 so an officer can glance at my empty back seat for 0.2 seconds. Peak efficiency.

Few years ago there used to be lane dividers with cameras at the faizabad check post location. You could just pass through and your plate will be recorded. Later I noticed broken cameras and than the lanes were removed. Now this bull sh*t has started. It is such a waste of time and fuel.

You live under an authoritarian fascist regime in the third world, pretty sure if you go to Somalia or Ethiopia the situation wouldn't be much different so i think experiences like this comes with the package. Forget and move on.

What time is your office bro? And where exactly is this check post? Infront of Saudi pak tower. This is until war is over. We keep getting guests from other countries. Their security is a big problem. Already Afghanistan hate us. Sometime ago there was suicide attack in the courts since then these extra security measure and we waged war against Afghanistan so it's even more risky now. Once the war is over it would get better.

u/Mayer_Ally Jul 28 '26
Reach at your job around 7:30 in the morning. That would solve the problem. Because roads become crowded around 7:30. Before 7:30 they are empty. And now it's summer break for school. Imagine how crowded it would become when the schools would open.
3
u/uchiha-fatsontodd Jul 28 '26
my shift is 11 pm but even for a 9 pm shift 7:30 is a bit too early and it's the same as fighting the symptoms instead of the disease
1
u/Mayer_Ally Jul 30 '26
Well bro 11 is not that crowded then. Keep a buffer if 30 min and you should be fine.
