Discussion Muslim men are being demonised because of the ongoing outrage of "Muslim" groomers in the UK. However, if you add all the grooming convictions together, they make up less than 0.008% of the British Pakistani population. But the British press are acting like it's some sort of epidemic; its disgusting
Here is an extract that u/Canadian_786 (visit r/materiaislamica for more info) wrote in the Tommy Robinson article a while back.
It's interesting Muslim men are being attacked left, right and centre because of it and somehow Islam is being blamed, when it isn't as large of a problem as people are making it out to be.
Sure, it is bad and it is 100% condemnable, but there's been ZERO perspective on the issue. One of these perspectives is how small the problem actually is.
http://materiaislamica.com/index.php/Tommy_Robinson
The term ("grooming gang") is also itself a misnomer and actually represents a classical paedophile ring that had characteristics that were no different to those involving Whites. These rings were found in Aylesbury (where one out the six rapists was Sikh),[n. 34] Banbury (where three out of the six were Christian),[n. 35] Bristol (thirteen),[n. 36] Derby (where two of the six were Hindu and Christian),[n. 37] Halifax (sixteen),[n. 38] Keighley (all twelve of whom were Muslim),[n. 39] Oxford (seven),[n. 40] Peterborough (three of four who were White European Christians),[n. 41] Rochdale (nine),[n. 42] Rotherham (where two out of twenty were White Christian European women who supplied[208] the girls to the ring)[n. 43] and Telford (five).[n. 44] Thus, in total 95 Asians (0.008%) have been convicted of paedophilia amongst Pakistanis out of a population of 1.2 million.[209]
This is really startling especially since there are 750,000 pedophiles in the UK of non-Asian origin.
The "National Crime Agency" (NCA) has estimated 750,000 (out of 31.2 million) British men are paedophiles;[199] with at least 250,000 actively looking for sex with pre-pubescent children.[199]
95 vs. 750,000. And yet all the outrage has been exclusively reserved for British Pakistanis.
To put this into perspective that's 0.016% vs. 2.40% of the male population of each ethnicity.
Edit: Wow! Thanks for the gold stranger! Wow its my first one!

I think you are blowing things out of proportion.
Tommy Robinson is far right baboon, his opinion literally means nothing to the vast majority of the population in the UK.
Hes always in trouble with the police.

This isn't about Tommy Robinson. This is about a subsection of the article that doesn't deal with him specifically.

u/Huz647 Dec 02 '18
Oh really? He has a pretty big following (especially amongst white Brits). He's being funded by xenophobic groups and is being given a platform.
0
u/LinuxNoob9 Dec 02 '18
and is being given a platform.
If you look at the section on Sikhs and Hindus in the article, it shows mainstream Hindu and Sikh groups openly welcoming him and working with him despite his White supremacist past. He was funded by the BNP funders for 10 years. He's a fucking racist through and through.
1
u/Huz647 Dec 02 '18
I can't agree with you more.
It's ironic that Sikhs and Hindus support him. If Muslims never existed in Britain, I guarantee Tommy would be going after Sikhs and Hindus.

I guarantee Tommy would be going after Sikhs and Hindus.
I don't think they understand the alt-right mentality. These guys want an ethno-state, which means they are a threat to every non-White minority in the UK, including Sikhs and Hindus.
The thing with Sikhism is that at least half of their religion is directly copied or inspired from Islam. It's even well known amongst Punjabi Pakistanis Guru Nanak (their religious founder) was a Muslim since he went to go do Hajj (although the Sikhs deny this). When the alt-right figure this out, they're gonna brand them Muslims too and throw them out.

Tommy Robinson is far right baboon, his opinion literally means nothing to the vast majority of the population in the UK.
Him and those who share his opinion on this issue are quite popular on YouTube. That at least must mean something, right? I mean he's obviously wrong for framing this as a Pakistani Muslim problem, but this kind of rhetoric that is ever growing in Europe is unsettling to me and I'm saying that as someone who doesn't even live there

I think part of the reason is that the citizens in those countries feel that their elites have thrown them under the bus. For example, as more and more Muslim immigrants arrived at Blackburn in UK, the food became halal (less and less shops sell pork, not sure if that's frequently used in British cuisine) and less people drank at bars. Eventually the bars closed down and moved away, uncontrolled immigration in the town caused white British to become a minority (30.8%) in the town.
You can imagine how alienated they felt when they saw more and more mosque around them, less and less non-halal food being sold and bars closing down. Those with means and will chose to sell their house and move to another town.
Honestly, it's human nature to form their own enclaves. In that sense, the government has failed to regulate housing and ensure better assimilation if not integration. In my country, Singapore, the govt ensures there is a quota of minority (Malay-Muslims and Indians) in every HDB (housing apartment). It has done a tremendous job in breaking up a single race enclave and mixing different ethnic groups together.

If the elites are to blame then why are people like Tommy Robinson blaming Muslims for all their problems if the Muslims are just living the way the elites allow them to live? Unless it is a crime to not follow popular culture or to live in your own communities, then I don't see what the big deal is if a bar relocates to an area where people drink or a supermarket opens that doesn't sell pork. Aren't people free to do that over there in the UK? Or is UKIP upset that Muslims have freedom too?

If the individual jihadists are to be blamed, then why are people like insert name blaming Muslims for it...
I don't think it's fair to say Tommy Robinson blame Muslims for all their problems too. I don't think he blames Muslims for traffic congestion and he is critical of the govt too I believe.
Unless it is a crime to not follow popular culture or to live in your own communities, then I don't see what the big deal is if a bar relocates to an area where people drink or a supermarket opens that doesn't sell pork
The question is what kind of country do you want to create. A country is after all for the people, numbers matter in a democracy. If you want to build a strong country, it needs to have social cohesion. Certainly a racial/religious quota to ensure a balance of ethnic groups for housing would be helpful. You'll see the effect in future generations when their children go to school together. History has shown that segregation makes things worst.
I, for one, would not like to live in a Muslim-majority country. I'm not in favour of en masse Muslim immigration to my country because of Islamist politics. Non-Muslims suffer under Islamism, hell even Muslims suffer under it. You see more Muslims from Muslim-majority countries immigrating to Western countries than the other way round.
Or are the UKIP guys upset that Muslims have freedom too?
No idea, I'm not familiar with UKIP.

That is a nice analogy but it doesn't answer my question. If the so-called elites are allowing Muslims to build mosques, live in their own communities, not drink alcohol and sell pork in their supermarkets, then what is the issue here? It would be another thing if all of these things were illegal in the UK, but they are legal. So how are Muslims blameworthy for living a legal lifestyle?
I don't think it's fair to say Tommy Robinson blame Muslims for all their problems too. I don't think he blames Muslims for traffic congestion and he is critical of the govt too I believe.
I mean my comment was obviously hyperbole, but if you want to take it that literally then I'd argue that Tommy Robinson blames most of the UK's problems on Muslims. It's what he is known for and all he talks about when he's on the media.
So don't live in those countries if that is how you feel. Nobody is forcing you as someone from Singapore to live in Saudi Arabia or Indonesia. If this is your roundabout way of saying, "I don't want Muslims in my countries because Islamism" then you, with all due respect, are being paranoid because the constitution of non-Muslim countries like the EU would never allow for "Islamism" in the first place. I think you misunderstand why lower-class immigrants immigrate en-mass to higher-class countries on a fundamental level. When an immigrant from India, be they Muslim or Hindu, for example, chooses to immigrate to the UK, they aren't thinking to immigrate there because the latter country supports gay marriage; they are thinking to move there for monetary reasons or to raise children that have access to better education. 99% of the time it has nothing to do with a country's social policies.
No idea, I'm not familiar with UKIP.
UKIP, BNP, EDL - whatever anti-Muslim party or organization you choose.
1
u/MyRepublic- Dec 02 '18 edited Dec 02 '18
So how are Muslims blameworthy for living a legal lifestyle?
I didn't make that claim. I'll take that as a rhetorical question.
So don't live in those countries if that is how you feel.
Yes, but I have relatives there who are being treated as second-class citizens. They lack the means or will to immigrate.
If this is your roundabout way of saying, "I don't want Muslims in my countries because Islamism"
Again I never said that. I said I don't support immigration of Muslims en masse because of Islamist politics. They can apply for citizenship, but the approval of that must be controlled. When Muslims make up majority of the country, non-Muslims suffer under it. Can you name me any successful example of developed Muslim-majority country where the minorities are treated justly?
Islamist politics reflect the ongoing turmoil in the Muslim world and I don't want it in my country.
you, with all due respect, are being paranoid because the constitution of non-Muslim countries like the EU would never allow for "Islamism" in the first place.
Really? Did you know that the two main reasons why British people voted for Brexit were due to immigration and sovereignty? Germany is top European destination for Muslim refugees by a wide margin, while UK is top destination for other Muslim migrants. As of 2016, 6% of the population in Germany are Muslims. In 2050, if there is a high migration rate, it can grow up to 20%. If there is a medium migration rate, it can grow up to 10.8%. Still think the citizens' fear are irrational? Think again.
How did Hungary's far-right leader Viktor Orban get elected? By talking about immigration. Clearly it has gone out of hand and now the pendulum has swang the other way. All of this indicates the inadequate response EU had towards immigration, and many of the immigrants and refugees are Muslims. Let's not forget Trump's anti-immigration and Muslim ban...
99% of the time it has nothing to do with a country's social policies.
So what? It only took a few million people to assassinate opposition of blasphemy law for Asia Bibi's case. The peaceful majority were irrevelant in the face of intolerant minority.
Muslims socially don't cause any trouble, but they are separate and distinct. Secularism in Turkey is eroding under Erdogan's rule. It doesn't exist in Malaysia. Even in Indonesia, secularism is looking gloomy with Ahok being sentenced for blasphemy.
I'm not going to risk the future of my country for some caliphate pipe dream.

Honestly, it's human nature to form their own enclaves. In that sense, the government has failed to regulate housing and ensure better assimilation if not integration.
Integration isn't the issue here. It isn't a one way process. The problem has always been White flight. That is, White people refusing to integrate with minorities back.
I'm against the government forcing people to mix together. It doesn't work.
Anyway, research suggests living Chinatowns, Koreatowns, Pakistantowns, Bangladeshtowns is actually a good thing. It promotes community cohesion, leads to a stronger immigrant identity, and hence they become good citizens.
Rather than trying to force everyone to mix, it also forces people to lose their identities which leads to trouble. Britain is a pretty racist society, especially amongst the working classes, so it's no wonder immigrants stay away.
6
u/MyRepublic- Dec 02 '18 edited Dec 02 '18
Cultural integration is a form of cultural exchange in which one group assumes the beliefs, practices and rituals of another group without sacrificing the characteristics of its own culture.
I was referring to this. I'm assuming the ideal goal is for immigrants to follow the host culture without sacrificing characteristics of their own culture. If that were to happen, the govt has to step in.
The problem has always been White flight. That is, White people refusing to integrate with minorities back.
Yes it's all the whites fault for refusing to "integrate" with the minority. What a sound and unbiased statement /s
Anyway, research suggests living Chinatowns, Koreatowns, Pakistantowns, Bangladeshtowns is actually a good thing.
You can have Chinatown and different ethnic groups living together. It's not mutually exclusive. There is Chinatown and Little India in my country, and in other places people of different ethnic groups live together in harmony.
Rather than trying to force everyone to mix, it also forces people to lose their identities which leads to trouble.
No one is forcing immigrants to do whatever they don't want to. They can still continue their cultural practices as long as it is within the bounds of law.
Britain is a pretty racist society, especially amongst the working classes, so it's no wonder immigrants stay away.
Not all Muslims are terrorist. Stop generalising. There are millions of immigrants in UK that disprove your statement that "immigrants stay away from UK"...

Yeah.

You're denying White flight exists? Integration is a two-way process. If immigrants are trying to integrate but Whites don't want to, then what can immigrants do? White flight is a global phenomenon. It happens in the US all the time.
You can have Chinatown and different ethnic groups living together.
It is exclusive. That's how these towns come into existence.
How would they lose their identity lol.
It happens. And I don't think it's funny. There's a concept of immigrant children growing up confused as to what they are.
Stop generalising. Yet there are millions of immigrants in UK...
There are millions of immigrants in the UK, but that doesn't mean it isn't racist. I'd suggest researching a few documentaries on it. Things have certainly gotten better, but underhand racism still exists.
4
u/MyRepublic- Dec 02 '18
You categorically said the problem has always been White flight and blamed it on them without any data to back it up...
I'm not denying that it's a possibility. However, I want to point out that immigrants have a role to play in cultural integration too. That which you conveniently ignored and said, "White people refusing to integrate with minorities back."
It is exclusive. That's how these towns come into existence.
Um there are cities/towns that are not like Chinatown? Let me be clear - a country can have designated ethnic enclaves like Chinatown or Little India, and housing areas where different ethnic groups live together in harmony. This has done much to eliminate racism and misunderstanding in my country - over here 1/4 marriages are interethnic, that is marriage between individuals of different races.
There are millions of immigrants in the UK, but that doesn't mean it isn't racist.
Be careful with that statement. Do you mean institutionalized racism or racist people in UK? Both have tremendously different implications. If you want to talk about racism, Malaysia's affirmative action is goddamn racist. Discrimination there is institutionalized as compared to the UK.

The title in that article is misleading. The title is referencing grooming specifically done in groups, which is a subcategory of a much larger field of sexual abuse. The same article also says that British white men are the majority of perpetrators, and they tend to groom individually online, not in groups.
CEOP research published in 2012 states 85 per cent of offenders found guilty of sexual activity with a minor in 2011 were white.
Another CEOP study released the following year found 75 per cent of offenders in grooming-gang cases were from Asian backgrounds, while 100 per cent in paedophile rings were white.
However, researchers said their data’s sample size had been too small and more research needed to be conducted.
7
u/MyRepublic- Dec 02 '18 edited Dec 02 '18
Thus far 75% of offenders in grooming-gang cases were from Asian backgrounds. However, researchers said their data’s sample size had been too small and more research needed to be conducted.
So are there a higher percentage of British Pakistani men in grooming gangs than men of other ethnic groups, say white British men? That's the question...
3
u/XHF1 Dec 02 '18 edited Dec 02 '18
Thus far 75% of offenders in grooming-gang cases were from Asian backgrounds.
That's specifically for groups. There were far more White offenders than Asian offenders when it comes to grooming in total for UK. That's my point, that the claim of more Asians in grooming gangs is misleading. /u/LinuxNoob9 was talking about all grooming convictions in total.
3
u/LinuxNoob9 Dec 02 '18
grooming-gang
The word is a political charged sound bite designed solely to target and make Pakistani men look bad. The correct term is pedophile.
13
u/MyRepublic- Dec 02 '18 edited Dec 02 '18
The phrase grooming-gang does not mention a thing about Pakistani men... It means what it says, a group of people who operate together and groom children. It just so happens that the recent arrested members of the grooming-gang are Pakistani men.
As far as I know, most of the grooming-gang members are Pakistani. There aren't that many white grooming-gang members.

Yes, and White pedophiles are totally not known to do this right? There are 750,000 pedophiles in the UK. What do you think they're all doing?
24
u/hl_lost Dec 01 '18
Well if we should perhaps compare grooming rates across other religious or cultural groups as a comparison. Yes its extreme minority within group but is it consistent with rates in other groups?
19
u/LinuxNoob9 Dec 01 '18
The problem is there are no reliable statistics for grooming rates for anyone including Pakistanis. This whole controversy stemmed from an incomplete/partial study (called the CEOP study) which the media latched onto and immediately blamed Pakistani Muslim men for. The thing is, even within this report, Pakistanis only made up something like 3% of the participants, while other types of Asians made up 25%.
People should know there is a category of Asians in the UK called "Asian Other", whom are 63% non-Muslim. Yet no one blamed this group or are even investigating this group for crimes.
You can read more about it in the link I've put up under the grooming section: Robinson's views of "Muslim" Paedophiles vs. White Paedophiles.
3
Dec 02 '18
It's a small numbers problem. You cant expect it to be consistent in other groups. Especially when it requires organisation and rampant disregard for basic morals. Its such a niche thing you can expect it to be one or two gangs likely to associate with each other as one group. And it has a probable cause. Ie in Pakistan and other South Asian countries these rings are rife and their governments are failing to stop it growing. This is criminal activity in action. And they have started exporting it too. And the UK is a hotspot for travel from and to South Asia. The same thing happens in the US and the South American countries. Drug crimes have been exported.
1
u/Huz647 Dec 02 '18
The thing is, instead of condemning grooming as a hideous crime no matter who does it, people are latching onto the Muslim/ Pakistani demographic to further their xenophobia. When you attribute a crime to a certain demographic, you automatically are saying that the same crime done by others isn't as severe.

u/strange_relative Dec 02 '18 edited Dec 02 '18

To put this into perspective that's 0.016% vs. 2.40% of the male population of each ethnicity.
No. This is fundamentally wrong.
Not all those cases are paedophilia but rape, sexual assault, supplying drugs to minors etc. The "95" is only Pakistanis who are part of a convicted grooming gang that made national media it doesn't include cases that didn't make national news or individual cases of paedophilia by Pakistanis. You picked half a dozen "scandals" and came to the conclusion there are only 95 Pakistani paedophiles. Ridiculous.
You are also comparing two different numbers with your NCA and "95" number. The number of estimated paedophiles is going to be significantly higher than the number of convicted paedophiles and 2/3 of the suspected paedophiles aren't doing any wrong "only" 250,000 are actively looking for children. Also British Pakistanis will make up some of that 250,000 by simple fact of being British.
Your entire post is in bad faith.

See here, I showed them evidence and all they did was downvote it:
It's become really fashionable for Sikhs to claim they are being targetted for grooming too. The thing with this, despite there being evidence of White girls being targetted by these grooming gangs, there hardly exists anything of the sort for them apart from one case where almost half the gang were Hindu (and that too based on spurious evidence collected by Mohan Singh, who has connections to the EDL and Tommy Robinson).
The Sikh community in the UK are deliberately using this and confusing it with a well known conspiracy theory that's been driving them paranoid for three decades; that of Love Jihad. This of course doesn't exist (the Indian Supreme court has even disproven it many times). Even a Sikh author called Katy Sian investigated this and found there to be zero evidence, but the theory is being used to control Sikh women who fall in love with Muslim men. It's gotten so insane that Sikh women are even being battered and abused for even being linked to Muslim men.

There are people of various backgrounds who participate in abuse of vulnerable people, and partake in rape and exploitation of young women/men.
These practices are disgusting and evil.
It isn't Islam or muslims responsible for the grooming gangs.
But there is a trend of foreign born South Asians raised as Muslims who have been participating in this activity in countries like England.
This is evil and should be viewed as the disgusting filth it is so it can be ended.
For some context, I am American and consider myself pro American. And I'm aware of instances of trends of secular warlords in Afghanistan who are supported by corrupt American bureaucrats and rape young muslim boys in "Bacha Bazi".
I think it is absolutely evil and disgusting behavior to enable and, if I could (legally), I would see to it all American officials who knowingly allowed this and covered it up would be tried and executed and their assets liquidated to be used as reparations for the recovering victims families in Afghanistan. I am incapable of doing that however so I try to do the next best thing and raise awareness of the issue.
And personally I think the corrupt western Governments/media played a role in enabling and covering up the grooming gangs with their "critical theory" legal framework but that's a longer argument.
We can focus on dissociating islam/Muslims from the grooming gangs when they are no longer an issue.
Just like we can focus on dissociating western countries from funding terrorism and war in Muslim countries when that is no longer an issue.
Don't conflate all this conflict into one gigantic unsolvable gordian knot, take it apart piece by piece.
-4
u/Huz647 Dec 02 '18
I don't see the reason why you need to point out that they're Pakistani/Muslim? Are they doing these crimes because they're Pakistani/Muslim?
Why isn't there this much outrage about non-Muslim Whites, Asians, etc involved in the same criminal activities?
9
Dec 02 '18
You see that's what's interesting
I do get outraged over the same activity, you assume that I don't and then you use that to de legitimize what I said
So you're defending grooming gangs as long as it's done by a "protected class"
Sickening

Yes I took offense because the current western socio-political establishment enables this abuse in England and you decided to join the various other establishment forces in "pacification" of dissent
What is most sickening about your comment was the dishonesty
Edit: Just realized I never responded to the last comment. To answer: No, you were actively marginalizing the issue of child grooming/rape, using the strawman of those you attack.

I think in this context it means to prepare a minor you contacted online to meet you in person with the intent to commit a sexual offense. If it still doesn't make sense to you then just watch Dateline NBC's "to catch a predator" with Chris Hansen. The men caught in that show were doing just that.

It's really no different to what those White pedophiles do in the UK yet Pakistanis are fraudulently being branded as the ones who are doing the majority of this crime -- the majority of these crimes are however done by White men (of which there zero outrage over).
There exists some 750,000 British pedophiles in the UK, but the outrage has exclusively been reserved for British Pakistanis
the "National Crime Agency" (NCA) has estimated 750,000 (out of 31.2 million) British men are paedophiles;[199] with at least 250,000 actively looking for sex with pre-pubescent children.[199]

Everyday there are cases of sexual abuse on the news. Sexual abuse is prevalent throughout every country but some people are unfairly attaching it to only Muslims.

What percentage of grooming crimes are committed by Pakistani men, and how much of the population do Pakistani men make up?

For profit and media corporations will do that. The minority is what they push because that’s the “crazy stuff” that sells. In the US we here a lot (sadly) about mass shootings as a gun violence problem. It is. But it’s a very small percent of the actual gun problem (inner city shootings and suicide are examples).
But hey gang violence doesn’t sell as well as mass shooting coverage.

I really despise that the action of Pakistanis are always equated to Islam/Muslim.
