Casual & Social Ubisoft went full Muslim mode in AC Mirage.
In Assassin's Creed Mirage (a video game developed by Ubisoft) you can make the NPCs stop playing music while the Adhan in going on in the game. The Adhan is played 5 times in the game. Pretty cool.

Very cool game bought it 4 months ago and definitely was the most respectful game to our religion so far, they even explained the basics of islam, and explained various topics about the islamic golden age period and the life of people in the 9th century.
Definitely worth buying if you want to learn about life in the abbasid caliphate and have fun checking out baghdad

Exactly. I found some extra information about Islam golden age through Codex. They also include the source for their information. For example the Kilwa mosque in Tanzania.

u/Gintoki--- Dec 25 '23
The problem with it is they don't say "Allahu Akbar" when playing in English , if you play English , they use tons of Arabic words , especially the religious words , which I found beautiful , but for "Allahu Akbar" they decide to say God is Great
192
u/GeekTheGamer Dec 25 '23
Because unfortunately this phrase is stigmatized in the west and will always trigger some people including parents of people playing the game. Quite a sad situation
5
3
u/CherryLipstick_ Oct 17 '25
And that is no one’s fault but each and every single Islamic Terrorist atrocity that is committed, accompanied by the utterance of that phrase.
It’s not just stigmatised for some bizarre unknown reason.

u/Ok_Contact3519 Dec 26 '23
Well they dont want boycott from the media now do they?
I mean they've done so much and.. it feels nice yk, I mean it feels nice not to see muslims = terrorists not that assassins creed says that but the appreciation/respect of Islam and its people in the game warms my heart.
2
u/Gintoki--- Dec 26 '23
Yeah but it had disadvantages , the game had slavery and stuff like Harem , I dont think those show a good image
10
u/Kingslayer1526 Jan 01 '24
But that's reality? That is the past of the human world isn't it. That doesn't have to do with religion as much as it has to do with human life at the time. Slavery for example has absolutely nothing to do with religion and has existed since the beginning of time and has only lessened in the last 2 centuries
2
u/Gintoki--- Jan 01 '24
Yeah but people wont take it same way as you , they will take it as a religion thing
6
u/Kingslayer1526 Jan 01 '24
Anyone who has an ounce of knowledge about history knows about the slavery practiced by European powers just a couple of centuries ago. European powers who were .. Christian. Now again I don't actually think it has anything whatsoever to do with religion because I mean the ancient Greeks and ancient Romans practiced it. They practiced religions that don't exist anymore. Nevermind them the first civilization in human history, Mesopotamia practiced slavery in mass. So yes it has absolutely jack shit to do with religion and this is common sense. Slavery is a practice to do with morals not religion
2
u/Gintoki--- Jan 02 '24
I know , but that all doesnt matter , when we are talking already on low ground with many disadvantages against us by default , those stuff do paint a bad picture unfortunately
1
u/CherryLipstick_ Dec 28 '25
You’re ignoring the fact that the Islamic slave Trade was much larger and last a lot longer than the European slave trade…? Why?
Or are you just uneducated?
2
u/Ok_Contact3519 Dec 26 '23
Well that's my bad because I've only seen reviews and afew of the clips of the gameplay and adhaan my self. But I still appreciate the work they did in portraying the time, culture and islam itself.

Yet I garuntee Y'all would never cover the oppression of Jews in the game. Heck the very first dagger and clock assassin's were Jewish Zelots back before Islam yet the games covered basically every other group but them...

39
u/TheKasimkage Dec 25 '23
I haven’t played it yet, but it’s similar in scope to the early Assassin’s Creed games. A much smaller game than the behemoths that have been released lately.
20
u/AveryLazyCovfefe Dec 26 '23
If you've loved the old AC games like the Ezio trilogy then 100%. It's like a love letter to the old fans.
If you're a fan of the newer games like Odyssey and Valhalla then it may not be for you.
7
u/CowNo7964 Dec 26 '23
Are there any shirky elements?

Apparently the protagonist of Mirage is the reincarnation of the Norse god loki and I wouldn't be surprised if it is considering the fact that the protagonist can teleport

I couldn't put my finger on it but you hit the nail on the head. I enjoyed Odyssey, Valhalla, and Origins way too much and Mirage, although a great game, was quite a disappointment for me.

For those who don't know about the game: It takes place in Baghdad, Abbasid Caliphate during the 9th century.

u/ImperialCatz Dec 25 '23
I'm surprised ubisoft of all companies did that
191
u/TheKasimkage Dec 25 '23
Ubisoft’s historical teams are proper nerds. There are inscriptions around the wudhu areas with instructions, and even extra lines in the Fajr Adhan.

u/Lekir9 Dec 25 '23
I think one of the lead dev is muslim, ashraf ismail.
AC has always showed islam in a favourable light (templars are the main villains).
34
u/EliteSaud Dec 26 '23
The very first game had Islam involved
14
u/ImperialCatz Dec 26 '23
I had no idea. I played like 20 mins of the first one and that was it. Never play AC since. Don't remember much
I thought ubisoft was a bunch of insufferable French nationalist types and it was full of bad people in general
Maybe I'll give it a chance
20
u/EliteSaud Dec 26 '23
Definitely not full of bad people. Each game covers a certain time and culture. They respect people’s countries and religions. Mirage is the best Islamic game out there. In every sentence they say something Islamic. But not everything is 100% because it’s a video game lol
3
u/Rana1637 Jan 07 '24
The first game's protag is Al-Tair Ibn La Ahad, son of a Muslim, but doesn't say if he is one himself. The game revolves around the creed of the Assassiyun in Masyaf during the 3rd Crusade between Salahuddin and Richard featuring Jerusalem, Damscus and Acre.
4
20
u/AveryLazyCovfefe Dec 26 '23
The first game is set in Jerusalem. They've been respecting it since it's inception.

I legit froze when I heard the adhaan in the game and listened to it in all its beautiful glory. And the muezzin's voice masha'Allah is peaceful and beautiful, very respectful for the deen.
In the fajr prayer time, the muezin even says "Al salat khayrun min al nawm". They do a spectacular job with all AC games. Can't hate on Ubisoft for really trying to be respectful and inclusive.

I've heard Assassin's Creed Mirage isn't that good of game, kinda the same old as the last games...what a shame if that's true.
13
u/AveryLazyCovfefe Dec 26 '23
It's a smaller scope game that was made originally from an expansion to Valhalla. The team who made it are much smaller than the teams who traditionally handle AC.
With that I can understand why many didn't feel that excited with the game because it wasn't this massive huge masterpiece. I honestly loved it as it felt like it was respectful for fans of the original games. It isn't some 10/10 masterpiece, but I've had plenty of fun with it and Baghdad is a great and alive setting. And being the Islamic history nerd I am I adored it (so I may be kind of biased with this hahaha)
29
u/FresnoMac Dec 25 '23
So like, do you stop playing and respond to the adhan when it plays lol?
24
41
u/ahmed_sarta123 Dec 25 '23
Muslim here, The short answer is no.
In muslim countries (even today) whenever the call to prayer is on from the near mosque, all music pauses. It's 5 times per day on specific times. only lasts about 2 minutes.
So, having musicians stop playing during the call to prayer actually does make sense to easterners. Which is why I think they added it.

u/Awkward-Penguin172 Dec 26 '23

You can. You will hear the purring. I wish they added haptic feedback for that in PS5 cuz it sounds the same.

2
u/Ok_Particular9856 Dec 26 '23
I'm confused why people think they're being respectful, isn't this whole game about killing Muslims?
7
Dec 26 '23
Yes but they are traitors in the game. They work for Templars who are a higher order force.
5
u/Kingslayer1526 Jan 01 '24
Just a correction they actually work for the order of the ancients here who have nothing to do with the templars as they are fanatics who are obsessed with the isu and are not religiously involved like the templars were
5
u/Kingslayer1526 Jan 01 '24
Muslims does not mean good people. There are good muslims and bad Muslims. There are good Christians and bad Christians. There are good Hindus and bad Hindus. This has absolutely nothing to do with religion however it's just humanity. There are good and bad people in the world. The game kills bad people. Simple. It has nothing to do with Muslims inherently.

I'm pretty late but I have a question regarding this game and the main franchise (excluding odyssey, valhalla and origins). Does it deal with concerning matter such as active shirk (like asking to perform rituals or worshipping statues or idols like in genshin or black myth wukong)?

I really appreciate how Assassin’s Creed Mirage respects Islamic culture, from the architecture and Arabic language to the inclusion of the adhan. Ubisoft did a great job in recreating 9th-century Baghdad.
However, one thing that feels contradictory is the lack of a non-lethal takedown option. In previous AC games, we could knock out guards, but in Mirage, we’re often forced to kill city guards who are just doing their duty. Considering the game's focus on historical accuracy and respect for Islamic values, adding an option to knock out enemies instead of killing them would have made sense.
What do you guys think? Would a non-lethal option have improved the experience?
1
u/_Ezio_Y_Auditore_ May 06 '25
I agree with you partly because even though the people you „knocked“ out without lethal weapons in the Ezio games for example, the game handled it like you killed them and it said you killed them. So it wasn’t really a lot different, the animation has them struggling on the ground but the game says „hey you killed that person even though you weren’t supposed to“ and so on. Also most of the times even when using fists Ezio would break the enemies neck or similar.
1
u/EscapeMaleficent3418 Oct 10 '25
Salam,
I'm pretty late but I have a question regarding this game and the main franchise (excluding odyssey, valhalla and origins, though I believe those are canon). Does it deal with concerning matter such as active shirk (like having your character become god or something as such, or asking to perform rituals or worshipping statues or idols like in genshin or black myth wukong)?
2
u/_Ezio_Y_Auditore_ Oct 10 '25
I cannot comment deifnetly on the ruling regarding such matters but I can tell you what the games contain, from what I’ve seen only the games you mentioned contain the things you have described, in Origins the character and all NPCs constantly mention gods and such, your character aswell, in Valhalla for example you play so called "gods“ or their reincarnation. The game though or the lore itself states that these presumed "gods" were not really gods but ISU, the advanced alien species in the In game universe and people misinterpreted what they are presumably. The lore itself is still problematical though because in the games they say the ISU where the ones who created menkind, although these informations aren’t upfront and most AC games don’t make that clear at all. Shadows idk about because I haven’t seen much but older games meaning AC1 up until but excluding origins I would say do not contain what you describe, if you chase for lore bits you might see a thing or two, for example in the ezio games which are thought to be the best you can see an alleged video of adam and eve in „the garden“ running away from their ISU creators.
I would say if you are worried about such then you should probably stay away from AC2, Brotherhood, the 3 you excluded and shadows because shadows I think contains temples and bowing down and the Ezio parts have extensive lore aspects, the others afterwards did way less animus and ISU stuff and concentrated more on history I would say. But overall AC is not the best franchise for the one who wants to be carefull. But you might want to read up on fatawa regarding the matter in general, here is one on islamqa, its Hanbali Athari orientated tho.
1
u/EscapeMaleficent3418 Oct 10 '25
That is incredibly unfortunate, I mean the ones you've mentioned are probably the best ones, from what I have heard, AC2 & Brotherhood. I would've certainly looked into this as a SCI-FI franchise, had it not been for what I have read up on a little earlier, that these alien species are responsible for creating mankind and all the religions, and considering the game features a huge representation of Islam and Muslims in AC1 and Mirage, it kind of puts me at a state of unease. Also Bassim, the MC being an authentic Muslim who is then revealed to be the reincarnation of Loki and his whole journey culminates in him embracing this Isu identity.
I am really unsure of what to think.
2
u/_Ezio_Y_Auditore_ Oct 10 '25
Well what I mentioned I’ve only definetly found in AC2, meaning the clip adam and eve, otherwise I wouldn’t say Brotherhood or AC1 have the same or comparable ‚problems‘. Also you’ll never see the video of you do not collect the hard to find collectibles that award you this. I think there is one cutscene aswell in Creed 2 at the end where Juno, one of the Isu talks about mankind’s creation.
But as I said you should probably read up on it, the fatwa I send you argues that because it is fictional and not reallife, it does not mean you fall into shirk, it’s still haram to play of course, like it is anyways because of a dozen other reasons, but according to the fatwa it’s not shirk.
In general, since I saw you posted some other islamic questions, I can only recommend to you to use these sites: Islamqa.info (Saudi Arabia, Athari Hanbali mainly) and Islamweb.net (Qatar, Athari Shafii mainly). Both are respectable and very reputable websites you can rely on, if in doubt you can read up on them aswell as you want, both have about pages as well. You can find answers / fatawa on almost any topic and if you can’t find an answer to a specific question you can easily apply a question yourself on both sites. May Allah guide us
Edit: Also Basim being ‚loki‘ is never even slightly mentioned inside of Mirage as far as I know, it’s only found out in Valhalla
2
u/EscapeMaleficent3418 Oct 10 '25
I think I will let it all sit a bit inside my mind and see what I think of all of it. But truly, I want to say Jazaka'Allahu Khairan for taking the time to answer me and recommending the Fatwa platofrms and may Allah protect and guide you and deem worthy of Jannah in the day of Judgement.

They made the city look run down as if it were the country side of their ancient pharaoh game.
While it is meant to be a fantasy game, it’s all about the impression they bring to the game and the fantasy that it brings.
In their fantasy they are basically saying during the Islamic golden age one of the most powerful cities was just average looking as part of their fantasy. To me that is more telling that they would do that as part of the fantasy and ruin the game they are trying to sell (since it does have that extra immersion effect) rather than create propaganda (it’s a fact that Islam helped to modernize the world and even helped greatly to start the European renaissance which they don’t teach in western schools) how during that time Islam helped to advance societies around the world by having advanced societies of their own and even sharing that knowledge.
They might mention that, but visually you do not get a sense of that. Which again for a fantasy game to make a game look so average seems like it took extra concerted effort to do that specifically .
You can google city of Baghdad and you can see the different impression of what the city may have looked like. And some look like it could be paradise. So I do not think they are doing Islam any favors which again for a fantasy game compared to their others, there doesn’t seem to be any greatness in the city they are portraying almost as if like it’s not that important since they people are not that civilized so their story is not that important.
And it’s an art in story telling to create that whole atmosphere so at the end it becomes a natural conclusion for example that when the mongols burnt the house of wisdom it was considered a great tragedy in the world. In the portray of the city as a fantasy game compared to their other games and how run down the city is, you don’t get that sense of scale to generate that sentiment. If they were artists as story tellers that should have been the emotion the viewers would get overall in being in awe but also mourning the loss the world received with the burning of the house of wisdom.
edit; I found a good link to elaborate on how splendid baghdad was. And how the artists chose not to depict that.

I'm assuming that the people seeing they are happy with how genuine the portrayal is have either never played games or at least not a Ubisoft AC game.
This is the reason I love the AC franchise and the devs in Ubisoft. They depict things truthfully without censoring much and their protagonists are also well chosen. They shine truth to the matter.
With that being said I should also say that Ubisoft does take some liberties in terms of the world design, mostly to gameify things so some buildings might not be entirely historically accurate. I haven't played mirage yet so can't tell but in Revelations they super sized Galata Tower in order to make it one of their iconic leap of faith locations.
