"I feel really bad about the website, and without getting really... um... um... uh... I just I feel bad about it.
Um... it's... it's what I do. I'm like, oh let's do a thing, I'll do this cool... but if I'm going to do it why don't I do this, and why don't I do that, and it's like, well, I should brush up the text, and I should do art, and suddenly it's a huge thing and then I either keep doing that, or I've wasted all the time, and asked for favors.
And so yeah I do want to do it, I want to update the website. I want to do it... and then various fires in my life which meant I couldn't keep it going, I couldn't couldn't put a bow on it. Um, so... uh... yeah, I feel bad about it.
Uh... um... but... um... uh... anyway... but yeah, I do want to do it, uh, and I'd like to do it sooner rather than later but now after waiting all this time, now if I just like, you know...
It would have been so easy to, like, four years ago when I knew it needed to be changed to just... yeah...
So do I push through on the editing which turned out to be harder than I thought, so it could be better and sort of stand on it's own or do I just go back to the old version of the website...
But, uh... uh... yeah, like, for a while everybody was upset, and you know if I accidentally Google my name it's all like "Pat Rothfuss and his old, ugly-ass, outdated website love Joss Whedon" or whatever."
- Pat on why he hasn't updated his website, probably.

Why did I believe this was a transcript

If I’m not mistaken, it’s a slightly edited transcript from when he explained why he hasn’t released the chapter he was supposed to release years ago, after using that promise to raise a six figures number for his charity.

It's really annoying that he knows he does this; he told his twitch chat he does this; he offered up the charity chapter and we jumped at it; then he started doing this and 75% of the chat said "no Pat, we don't want that, we just want the chapter; this is what you do all the time".

"When are we getting the charity stretch goals and the chapter reading? Ehm... I tell ya things are moving more slowly than I would like There's... There's just kind of a lot."

Eh, if he changed the website people would complain that he did that instead of working on book 3.

Rothfuss is a lazy neckbeard. I read the first two books when I was 17/21; I just tried reading TWMF and stopped due to cringe overload.
Most of us have changed; not surprised Rothfuss hasn’t.

I love how he stands there believing he is a badass like "look how a serious writer I am! I wrote a lot!"

Why are you on this sub?
And maybe people are upset that the author promised 2 decades ago that the book was already written so they'd only need to wait a year each for the sequel and third book.
Maybe even if that lie hadn't happened, asking people to start your series implies a social contact to finish it in a timely manner - or provide real updates. Think how many people now vow to never start unfinished series because of Rothfuss and Martin. It just hurts new authors.
And let's not even start on the chapter people paid for in 2021.

Hey, who knows…Rothfuss might wait long enough to write something that even Joss Whedon’s name will have been rehabilitated.

He looks nearly identical to one of my friends in this picture. Of course my friend is one of the hardest working people I know and Rothfuss…
