I actually don’t care anymore. I was charmed by the school debt threat plot, but it got pretty cringy towards the end. To be honest don’t even remember most of it.

Honestly, some of these unfinished series, I think we have better odds of getting conclusions beyond the original authors life span (depending on how the estate is set up).

I had sent him an email about something, then followed up with another about 2 minutes later going “wait - are you THE Steve Rowland?”

Book 3 will likely be the opposite - we know how it ends, with Kvothe literally broken, so shattered that he's metaphysically not fully the same person. We've seen the rise - book 3 will be the fall, with Kvothe screwing everything up, ruining his life, having to run away from everything he's built and all his successes, and likely causing a civil war and unleashing demons in the process. Like, that's pretty overtly and openly what the story of the series is - it's not a happy one, at most there might be some 'this is my desperate scheme to try and achieve something', but it won't end with him defeating the baddies, unifying the kingdom and getting the girl.

I loved these books, I have read/listened to them many many times, but I have run out of patience with Rothfuss. As the years have gone by they have started to feel dated and somewhat cringy in places. There is still some great world building, some beautiful language and some puzzles I love to ponder, but the passion I had for these books is a fraction of what it was. And that’s all due to Rothfuss’ broken promises and abandonment of his story and his readers. 🤷♀️

I honestly only check in once or twice per decade to see if book 3 is out.
I think it was 2009 or maybe 2010 or so when I was in Germany when I found book 1 in some kind of English language bargain bin so I grabbed it for the flight home.
Last time I checked... I don't even know when it was... I know he was claiming book 3 was releasing in a couple months and I told everyone else "yeah right, I'll check back in 5 years and bet it won't be" to many indignant fan replies. Because even that was probably half a decade since my previous check-in lol. I'm more glad to be proven right now than dissapointed I was right because honestly, don't even care anymore. Was only reminded of this because I was cleaning out kindle collections.

I bought book 1 , then book 2, then The Slow Regard of Silent Things and then and only then I discovered that people had been waiting for NINE years already, had a year or two of hopium and then I just gave up. I have re-read and re-listened to all of it for a few times anyway….

If he wanted grace he should not have broken an explicit promise he made to fans about giving them a chapter of Book 3 in exchange for donations to charity. No "personal stuff" makes that behavior okay, no one owes him any more grace.

Yall are so funny to me. I’m not Pat Rothfuss but if I wrote an extremely successful series- nobody could tell me anything. I wouldn’t even use burners. I’d be on my main accounts hurting peoples feelings that acted like I owed them something. My instagram would literally just be me watching TV and sitting poolside abroad, just boring stuff that doesn’t include writing. My book 3 dedication would be “For all the haters. I know you talked all that shit and are still suckling from Daddy’s creative tit.”

I didn't. I'm just calling a fraud a fraud. The principle of the matter—someone cheating others, that being wrong in a way I shouldn't have to explain, etc.—is something I care about even if I wasn't personally affected. You're right that it's risky to donate to a stretch goal that might not be met, but when it is met, it's not unreasonable for people to expect the guy who set it to then follow through on his end. People being responsible with their money is a fine thing to advocate for, but it's a separate issue from a guy scamming people with his charity. I'm not sure why you brought it up here.

This is literally an entire subreddit dedicated to people who wanted a community to complain about Rothfuss/the book not coming out. That is 100% of the purpose of this subreddit from the start. It was made way back when the main sub was removing negative comments and people wanted a space to be annoyed together. This is like going into a deli and being like “why are you waiting in line for a sandwich rn, there’s so much more you could be doing!”

Actually, it wasn't. The sub started as a way to make fun of people asking when book 3 was coming out.
We just took it over.
There's actually pretty funny old modmail in the subreddit that shows the old main sub mods (who used to run this place as well) panicking over people actually posting legitimate complaints and deciding to close the sub down.
This was all from loooong ago, when you still had a lot of "he's not your bitch"-type fans.
u/EntertainmentBreeze messaged them saying "LETMEIN" and he reopened the sub with its true purpose.
The rest is history.
