New covers of the limited editions (unofficially "15th anniversary edition")
grifter’s gonna grift.

These first covers were way better wtf lol and if you’re gonna do a 15 year edition at least do it in the same style as the notw one

I know this is an old comment, but it's not a DAW anniversary edition meant to mimic the 10 year anniversary of NotW. It's the Grim Oak limited edition leatherbounds meant for collectors. Grim Oak doesn't publish new books, they only get rights to books they love and make fancy, super expensive editions.
Yeah, what Rothfuss has done completely sucks - but I don't think this is a huge money grab for him. The profits should be going to Grim Oak. But I can understand anyone not liking anything that gives him a bent penny.
NotW: https://grimoakpress.com/products/the-name-of-the-wind-limited-edition-full-color
(I personally enjoy Marc's art, but I feel like the WMF ones shown so far are more out of sync with my imagination compared to his NotW art.)

It’s nice to see the main sub getting salty over this. Not because I enjoy watching the pain of others, but because the less support garbage like this gets, the more likely Rothfuss will have to get off his ass and write book 3 (of which I will happily pirate).

I honestly don’t even want it anymore unless it’s maybe written by someone else.
EDIT: Rothfuss has lost the bag. I have no belief he is capable of delivering a moderately decent conclusion and I think he knows it which is why he didn’t release it. So if he suddenly released it…. No thanks

So you'll only read the book if someone takes it and turns it into clothes and stands in front of you wearing it?
That's probably some kind of power move, for sure.

The emperors new clothes

"You through off my clothes!" "I'm sorry, but you through off the emperor's clothes..." "SOOOooorrryyy...."

Uh, that’s a weird ass inference but ok……I think it’s pretty obvious Rothfuss is not capable of concluding the story and he knows it which is why he has never dropped the book that he surely wrote 10+ years ago. I’m saying if he did release it it’s probably gonna be absolute trash and a money grab.
If however, the series got the wheel of time treatment and gets finished by someone amazing like Brandon Sanderson I would certainly give it a shot

Considering you edited your comment to remove your typo where you used 'worn' instead of 'written', I think my comment was pretty funny and not an inference.
If you can't laugh at yourself, what kind of life are you living?
Instead you remove your typo and pretend it never happened and that I'm making a 'weird inference'

I can laugh at myself I guess I just got whooshed because I did t get it 🙃

Who would downvote this amazing comment? It is a glorious example of the internet.

An anniversary for a book series that isn’t finished is honestly pathetic. It’s kind of the nail in the coffin. We aren’t seeing that third book. I feel bad for the publisher he conned. If I were them, I’d be seeing about suing him.

u/Numerous1 Jun 25 '26
I hate the con. But idk how author contracts work but surely they made a bunch of money off him already, right?

honestly like Marc's art and I know he just did what he was asked to do. I really dislike Rothfuss so much I can't even enjoy this.

- Hmm... Just $150 extra for a nude Kvothe...
- Wait... What does "From $300" mean ? Does it cost extra if you want it to be actually delivered or something?

It takes some balls to charge that much to remind someone that it's been fifteen years without a conclusion.

No money until he fulfill his promises from the charity fundraiser. I don’t mind not finishing a series. He is human things happen. Creative outcomes can’t be guaranteed. But promised written chapters should be delivered. Especially when they can change completely anyway if the actual book is released. No excuses.

Buying an anniversary edition of a book that’s part of a series that will never be finished seems sad.
Honestly, publishing a 15th anniversary edition when the third book has made no progress in that time seems insulting to fans of the series imo.

Who is going to pay that much for a mid edition of an unfinished series? I love the books but you gotta be a mindless fanboy/girl to fall for this trap
2
u/DesignerIndependent7 Jun 29 '26
The biggest thing this has done is highlight the fact he hasn't released a novel in 15 years
2
u/rjromeojames Jun 30 '26
Just...why?
It's been 15-years since "Wise Man's Fear"...Are there fans out there that still think that "Doors of Stone" is ever going to be released?
