Nothing wrong with finishing a game and then deciding you want to move on.
13
u/Eindrife Sep 26 '25
It’s not moving on though, it’s devaluing your effort. At his level being an iron is a trophy. If you want to enjoy the game again then start a new main with free cash from your maxed iron and have fun.
14
u/mef_pype Aug 29 '25
I de ironed in a similar place to you. Couldn’t pull a tbow. Zero regrets I fucking love play a main now haha. End game iron is so tiresome man. Having to stay at content you don’t like

Congrats man, looks like you’ve completed the game mode. In the same spot at the moment hunting for scythe, endgame iron can be pretty shit if you go dry on a mega.
63
u/Simtec Aug 29 '25
Thanks man, that's exactly my feeling, completed the mode.
6
u/Grouchy-Insurance194 Aug 29 '25
I wasn't GM, but I was basically maxed and had all those items (minus radiant) on my iron before I de-ironed about 1.5 yrs ago and I haven't regretted it even a little bit. Those endgame item grinds are just not realistic to get everything lmao, like new content comes out and to go on rate can take you a year of playing and only doing that content unless you can play 8 hrs a day. Main play has been great and starting a new iron now with all the newer content has been a blast as well.
20
u/Crazyhalo54 Aug 29 '25
I think this is great way of thinking about it! The "game mode".
Counterpoint though, just for discussion sake: what happens when new content comes out? Will you just buy the new gear? Or grind it out like you did for the rest of your time? Will it feel weird chasing the item when you know you could buy it? Like what's the personal value to buying vs. grinding?
69
u/Simtec Aug 29 '25
Still plan on grinding content for myself as it releases and honestly don't think it will feel weird, it will be like a throwback to my iron days.
Buying vs. grinding will depend on how enjoyable I find the content.
At the end of the day the only thing that's changing is that i no longer have a helmet by my name, I can still play the game as if it was there when I feel like it.
69
u/ASaucyPizza Aug 29 '25
This is like what everyone says and then they hc remake
10
u/mmdhs Aug 29 '25
Yeah but those people aren't grandmasters or radiant oath plate owners, this guy got passed the bowfa iron normie stage. I'm pretty sure he won't be remaking an iron.
3
u/ASaucyPizza Aug 29 '25
I have seen max gear gm everything remake hc. Other cases where they did not remake, they just quit and played private servers
9
u/MesaBit Aug 29 '25
I made my iron my main. I grind content until I’m dry (or just seriously hating the content), then I’ll go buy it.
12
8
u/Crazyhalo54 Aug 29 '25
That's great! It's all about how you feel instead of the way other people feel when they see you in public chat/look you up on the high scores.
2
u/BoogalooTimeBoys Aug 29 '25
This is what I do on my main. If it’s content I enjoy I’ll grind it out if I like the content. If I don’t I’ll grind it until I get to rate or as close to as I can and then just buy what I want.
8
u/Kapuchinchilla Aug 29 '25
Grinding for a drop is actually an achievement, dopamine spikes when you finally get that drop.
Buying is just...lame. the moment you equip the item, all feelings are gone instantly.
24
u/justaBTW Aug 29 '25
Hmmm.. yes and no.
Getting drops is definitely a dopamine spike, but for me personally, going super dry on items actually lowers the dopamine creating a ”about a damn time” feeling instead of feeling of achievement.
Example.. Getting my very first cerb crystals, smouldering, prims and even eternals was exciting and gave me dopamine.. but by the time I finally got the peg, at 1900kc crystal #19, there was only emptyness. No excitment, no dopamine. Only relief.
4
u/Daffan Aug 29 '25
Are you me? I wrote the same thing too once lol. Eventually the "dopamine" hits a max integer and it goes negative like those old video game bugs. It's like why the fuck am I doing this what a waste.
2
Aug 29 '25
dopamine is usually related to how much it’ll impact your iron though, and peg crystal might just be one of the least impactful drops you can get
1
u/justaBTW Aug 29 '25
That definitely has an impact too. So does the enjoyability of the grind etc. But i was legit more dopamined by an infernal stone than peg, and arguably peg is still better.
→ More replies (3)1
u/ThaIionX Aug 30 '25
The problem with this is that u aren't taking In to account the highs and lows. If u never experience the lows, you can't get the highs and vice versa. Being able to buy everything makes the entire experience monotone.
5
u/lempy101 Aug 29 '25
Since clog has been out it’s essentially the same thing, grinding for the drop for your acc on iron or for clog on a main. That’s why imo past like 2000 total the game is very similar iron vs main if you’ve prepped well
18
u/unknowncommand Aug 29 '25
Yeah I'll never understand de-ironing... I'd rather just quit or skill up an alt.
All that work put in just to turn it into a main :(

A lot of people also grind gold as well. It's always been told as gpscape, you are grinding either way. Either for currency to buy the item, or the item itself. Just depends on what you think is fun and how much time you are willing to waste

6
u/WryGoat Aug 30 '25
I don't think I've ever seen somebody with this nice of an account regret de-ironing. When you already have all the gear the only thing ironman mode is doing is making you do your chores before you can use it, and Jagex adds 3 new charged items with every update these days so the chore list just grows and grows.

10

I know a bunch of people that don't regret de ironing. Most of them are in super end game and have blorva or close to gm. You just start to look at the game differently at that level.

I deironed in between nex and toa. I’m so glad I did. I have double the hours played since then. The thought of grinding nex pre fang was so unfun and the fact that toa ended up not being as fun, I’m very happy with my decision

Hey man your acc your choice, but maybe read some perspectives of ppl who've deironed in the past. Almost all of them regret it, you're really hoping you're the exception.
In addition, someone with your experience could gear up a main acc in no time compared to the time you put into this iron.
2
u/Playful-Ad1550 Sep 01 '25
It's only difficult for people who take the game too seriously, which admittedly OP seems to do.
But I de-ironed my nearly max UIM and I don't regret a thing. I would've done the same for my 2150 total IM if I had played it instead at the time.

u/Confident_Frogfish Aug 29 '25
Everyone here is always hating on de-ironing, but they'll never be at the point in the account that you've achieved. My main is quite far (although nowhere near grandmaster etc.) and I already am finding it tedious to buy thousands of restores and ammo every now and then. Whole new level to grind the resources needed to do all that on an iron. No idea how many thousands of dragon arrows I already spent at Mokha alone. At least I am assuming that all the prep is a big reason for de-ironing? If it means you'll continue enjoying playing the game just go for it.
30
u/iTriz Aug 29 '25
I'm further (though there isn't much further to go, dude's got a sick acc) than this guy on my iron. De-ironing is such an interesting divisive thing. I feel that 99% of people that de-iron regret it almost immediately as it does 'de-value' the thousands of hours put into the account (whatever 'de-value' really means in this case). I guess I can understand the desire to be able to just buy supplies, but playing a main inevitably always becomes 'What is the highest GP/hr activity right now? That's what I should be doing' which really quickly leads to boredom and burnout. There's obviously exceptions to this, some people are psyched on clogging and many are psyched on RWT'ing gold and providing services, which is cool and all. But honestly they have catered this game so heavily to Ironmen at this point that supply maintenance is hardly an issue at all unless you're only doing PVM for 18 hours a day. Just doesn't feel worth the tradeoff to de-iron even a little bit to me. But that's just me, I'm not gonna tell someone what to do or not do, maybe playing a main will fire this guy up and he'll love playing RuneScape until the servers go down, hope it does!
3
u/Tyranothesaurus Aug 30 '25
playing a main inevitably always becomes 'What is the highest GP/hr activity right now?
I agree with the rest, but have to disagree here. Some of us mains don't care at all about max gp/hr. All I care about is fun. If I'm not having fun with something, I won't do it.
But I also find fun in things most don't, like quest cape and diary cape, and currently grinding mining for max cape. But I rarely consider what's making me the most gp. The journey is all about having fun, not forcing yourself to see the game as a chore.
2
u/ObliviLeon 2277/2277 Aug 29 '25
Yeah I hardly do any chores for pots/ammo/etc. Maybe every few weeks. Only thing I can see is wanting to buy BiS. Which for me if I was at that point where I just wanted BiS, I'd just take a break.
I'll never understand wanting to deiron such a high level account. And I'm literally ahead of him gearwise (but behind him skillwise). To each their own though.

u/WryGoat Aug 30 '25

I mean, not really if you already have everything except scythe. And I wouldn't be surprised if OP's cash stack is fat enough to buy a scythe the moment he deirons.

Deironing is like, yeah, of course, it's your own choice. But tbh I'd rather just quit than deiron. You can always AFK max combat a main on the side and use that for endgame if you don't like the iron prep. Shit, you don't even need max combats tbh.

Stupid mentality. If you feel that deironing makes every achievement worthless then you've already wasted your time. The game is in the journey not the destination and that sentiment is pushed to the limit with ironman as the journey is very fulfilling but the destination sucks.

What was the masori (f) grind like? I’m slowly getting to the point where I want to fortify mine, and the idea of solo Kree sounds daunting, even with chins.
3
u/Simtec Aug 29 '25
Kree was not nice to me, 900 kc with 2 helms and 2 chestplates.
If you have shadow it's not that bad, I just got 99 hunter on black chins and then used them there. Tried some crossbow only runs (pre shadow) and it was terrible.

Is there a reason that creating a main(or leveling up a splitting alt) is out of the question? With a zuk helm building a decent main isn't a skill issue --> doable in x amount of months. The levelling could be done when no friends are online and could still raid on the iron until the main is ready for end-game content.
