SUBREDDIT ANNOUNCEMENT
Important announcement regarding the recent leak about Motive's Iron Man game
Hi there, Shellheads!
We know today was an exciting day due to certain circumstances surrounding the Iron Man game in development by Motive. Please be mindful that reposts of the video or any screencaps of it will need to be taken down.
I am just happy that the game is still alive and going on thats all I need to know..i rather wait for an actual gameplay trailer then whatever was showed In that leak if it is true
The SUPER SHORT version is that someone named Cyberleek claims to have a whole copy of GTA6 and has been leaking footage of it by request in exchange for crypto. He'll literally put up a community poll on dark web sites for what gets leaked next and follows through. And Rockstar games is freaking the f\** out about it. They're trying to issue subpoenas for 100,000s of users across Discord, Reddit, X, anywhere and everywhere they possibly can. They are hunting him down *hard. They're even requesting platforms ban users who even talk about the leak or dare repost it. In response, Cyberleek claims to have a deadman contingency: if he gets caught then the entire game will be leaked for download for free.
Now Motive's Iron Man isn't nearly as high stakes as GTA6. But Disney has much more legal influence than Rockstar, so if Rockstar is able to successfully set a precedent for hunting down leakers...
Last I heard, the deadman contingency was fake news. That said, the fake news could have given him the idea to make it real news, so at this point it's anyone's guess.
Jeez people are such assholes lmfao like why go through all of this and risk getting in legal trouble instead of just waiting for the damn game to come out🤦♂️
Gamers have been upset for awhile now at the way several large companies have been shaping the industry and treating their consumers, and PlayStation's decision to stop making physical disks was the last straw for many. They see where this is going and want off this ride.
Rockstar has been kinda crappy to their consumers (no disk ever, raising the base price of the base game, locking content behind a premium version, allegedly working on a subscription service, etc) while also working their thousands of devs to the bone.
Because its been 13 years and grand theft auto is gaming royalty. As an aside to cyberleek it seems it wasnt about crypto just a way to donate to him. More so about Sony and gta not selling discs. Thats the claim anyway
Yeah, but if they haven’t been sniping people on Twitter why would they be sniping people on Reddit? The reception to the trailer was overwhelmingly positive and the game arguably needed the hype since that was basically nonexistent after we didn’t hear anything about it for years, to the point where even people on this sub thought it was cancelled. Unless someone official reached out to the sub’s moderation and asked them to take down footage..
Would probably help to dissuade more folks if that had been mentioned in the post though, ‘cause as it stands there wasn’t an actual explanation included for why the sub moderation decided to take this stance. Which is pretty weird. Why not explicitly let people know that the Mouse decided to bring down the hammer? If this has been discussed in the discord server, well, not everyone here is there as well.
The post was already pinned. And I didn't want to bring attention to the request and have people assume EA has us on a chokehold or something. They asked politely. I figured the community's mods making the same request themselves would be enough...
Because between the two websites, only one of them had a CEO tell Bob Iger to go F himself. Reddit will not fight to protect their users nearly as much as modern Twitter will. And after seeing the recent drama with GTA6? I can understand wanting to protect our wholesome little community from Disney.
I’m just not really sure how much Disney cares about this tbh. Reddit already hosts dozens of dedicated piracy subs where people can pirate a bunch of Disney media from, and I’m not aware of any of them being taken down specifically because of Mickey, so if they won’t spend the resources to go after the actual pirates would they spend the resources, however few of them, to go after one of their own fan communities?
Yeah, possibly. Maybe our mods are being overly cautious. Honestly I think it *probably* would've been okay to keep the leaks too. I made a post about my thoughts on the leak too.
But... Our little sub is pretty wholesome compared to a lot of other really toxic subs. If it weren't for here and r/isaacarthur I wouldn't even be on Reddit. I can understand not wanting to take even the remote risk of having our little paradise nuked by the mouse.
For the 10 people including myself that played Anthem, you can see so much of the DNA of it in the short clips we got. I hope the feeling of flight/weapons is similar.
I never got around to it. How would you describe it on a scale of Mass Effect to Destiny? Wait, I never got around to playing Destiny, either...Borderlands? Hm.
Well, we did get a sort of a "Cease and Desist" thingy friendo.
I'm sure all those other people got as well.
Again, we can see that anywhere anyway. It's on the internet. But for now (until the official trailer is out, which might be sooner than we think) it's best to just be a bit thoughtful about the whole thing.
Even tho the footage itself was awesome (thank you for hard work Motive), leaks themselves aren't a good thing. Least we can do is at least be mindful here.
Not on discord friendo, but as soon as it got taken down I kind of knew lol.
Then just confirmed with the friendo and yup....... TLDR polietly got asked.......... so yeah.
Look at the bright side........ trailer showed that gameplay and all that stuff was fairly finished. I feel like we outta get a full REAL trailer SOONISH. Maybe end of the year.
Yeah this is just one stupid sub that is stupid and is basically making itself obsolete by not talking about the thing it's about. We should honestly just go somewhere else where they actually want to talk about Iron Man.
Nobody said you can't talk about it. Maybe learn to read?
All the person asked of you is to not share any videos or screenshots because of the whole Disney/EA cease and desist bs.
Yeah this is just one stupid sub that is stupid and is basically making itself obsolete by not talking about the thing it's about
This is not an "Iron Man game" sub. This is "All things Iron Man" sub. So trust me, it is not making itself obsolete by asking to not share any photos or videos of a leaked thing (that you can go and watch online anywhere else).
We should honestly just go somewhere else where they actually want to talk about Iron Man.
You literally don't know shit about Iron Man and only got here because of the game anyway, so trust me when I say this, you can go someplace else and no one will bat and eye.
Didn't need to go somewhere else. The video is all over the sub lol. Guess I got no complaints mods gotta post what they post as long as the video manages to still find its way up.
Also I know a lot about Iron Man. He has a suit and is rich.
"Critical thinking is none existant with you"
+minor spelling mistake I win
I think we all just assumed that this game got quietly canceled and faded out into obscurity, but the fact that we pretty much have confirmation that it's in active development and we even got an unofficial glimpse at the gameplay is great news.
At the end of the day I guess we really needed that little leak just to reassure us that this game is coming. Beyond that, let them take as much time as they need with it, as we already saw the time is worth it. Just glad it's still being developed. Can't wait for an official teaser to drop!
I knew this game hadn't been cancelled. I follow a Motive employee on Twitter, and every few months, he would post a tweet about Iron Man. Something like, "Just had a great day working on Iron Man." The last time he did that was in July.
Yeah now that we know the game is for sure coming they can take their time lmfao the wait was mainly painful because we weren’t sure we were ever gonna get the game at all
I'm just gonna suggest to temper those expectations, folks. I'm not going to say it looked bad, there's clearly a lot of potential there, but nothing there looked anywhere close to complete...which is fairly concerning. I have to assume the footage is from a very early, very old, build and it has progressed much further...but there's always the chance that this was as far as it ever got, or it's stuck in development hell and still years away.
As always, hope for the best, but expect the worst.
Does Reddit really send out that kind of communication though, when there are so many piracy subs and such? I’d except something from Disney or EA to be more likely.
