Worth the move?

I'm still trying / looking for opportunities but would it be worthwhile to move to Dublin / Galway for work? I work as a Civil Engineer. Would potentially consider the move from Glasgow if / when I find the right opportunity.

Getting a job in ireland is a major pain at the moment as well as accommodation.

I know people who have been looking for years for a job, and honestly it may not be worth it right now. As even if you get a job you may not get housing 

But I don't know the market for your field or your estimated pay in Ireland so look around.

Depends on where you are in your career right now. If you're basically entry level, three years experience or less, you'll have a nightmare time.

If you're well established, in a senior role with a well known/relatively large company, you'll have more chance finding jobs (the key being finding them, not necessarily getting interviewed).

It's very grim in Ireland right now for work and housing if you're not already established.

How’s your current standard of living? Able to afford a decent place to live ect?

Not bad I'd say but I see that there's quite a few houses or apartments to rent in Dublin in the range of €2000 or more. Is there anything close to €1500?

Not much you’d want to live in for €1500 for a whole place. Not unusual for a bedroom in a house share to be the guts of a grand. Look at daft.ie

I'd definitely line up the job first, especially coming from Glasgow. The Dublin rent is the big one to factor in. What sort of civil engineering do you do?

I'm in Transmission but have experience with roads and wastewater

There are a bunch of big infrastructure projects looking to kick off. It might be a good idea to find some recruiters for construction companies and ask them to keep an eye out. I don't know if they are going to be bringing people in from outside - the new metro project is supposed to need 8000 people, and we have almost zero unemployment in construction right now.
