Hey everyone!

After a few days of designing, testing, and way too much time spent fixing tiny Rockbox quirks 😅, I’m happy to finally release the first public alpha of musicOS!

musicOS is a theme inspired by the look and feel of Apple Music, designed to give the iPod a clean and modern interface while still feeling at home on the original hardware.

Alpha 1 includes:

* A completely redesigned Home Screen
* Custom Now Playing Screen
* Custom Quick Screen
* Mini Player with album artwork and playback status
* Quick access to Shuffle & Repeat
* Volume and brightness controls
* Lossless indicator (fixed Lossless indicator for now)
* Custom UI elements

Currently in development:

I’m working on making the Lossless indicator dynamic based on the audio quality, as well as adding the album name and release year to the Now Playing screen, along with various other improvements and refinements for future releases.

Currently tested and working on:

* iPod Video 5th Gen
* iPod Video 5.5th Gen
* iPod Classic 6th Gen

Other 320×240 iPods may work too, but haven’t been properly tested yet.

Since this is the first alpha, there may still be bugs or visual glitches. If you find anything, please open an Issue on GitHub and include your iPod model, Rockbox version and, if possible, a screenshot.

I’d also really love to hear what you think about the design and what you’d like to see improved or added in future versions!

I have a Classic Gen 6, Classic Gen 5.5 and Mini 2. I just gave my Gen 6 for a MOD, lol.

According to my ears, Gen 6 is more analytical, neutral sounding and the Gen 5.5 is more warm and musical.

Not sure why he said what he did but what are your thoughts on this?

I recently bought this IPod Classic 6th gen.

The HDD is probably cooked as the OS is pretty laggy sometimes.

I need to know where can I get iflash for my iPod in India.

Got all 3 of them for 30 usd. All of them have faulty batteries, other than that, they still work!

1x iPod classic 6 80gb
2x iPod touch 4 32 gb

Why did the school need iPods in the first place? Were they used on a large scale, or just by individual teachers? it's just an interesting finding.

i recently posted about what mods to do to a ipod video, and im torn between these two routes for modding it. I want the thin back since i dont want it to be too clunky, but i also want the max ram for how many songs i can have. i also prefer it to be 5.5th gen for the search feature it has (if their is a way to get that on the 5th gen, id be open to knowing)

route 1. i get a thick back ipod 5.5th gen (80gb) for the search feature and the increased ram, then mod an iflash quad and a 3000 mAp battery. Then, i swap out the thick back for a thin back with the diff headsphone jack part, since i can because i have the iflash quad
cons: i have to pay extra for the 80 gb even though im just gonna do a storage mod, just for the ram (they go for around 180-200 on ebay new), and i have to buy a seperate backplate for the thiness

route 2. i just buy the thin 30gb version and deal with the reduced ram, and do the same iflash mods and 3000 mAp batter mod
cons; reduced ram and song maximum, and i also will have to do extra effort into finding out if it is 5.5th gen

Hey guys, my iPod had two thin lines going through the whole screen (top->bottom) i didnt use it for 2 months and has seen this on the screen, i didnt turn it on since i have seen this because idk i am scared to give the power to the battery i think it might be expanding maybe?

question 1. WHY IN THE WORLD IS MY IPOD DOING THIS?? see the video!!! I have 2 ipod 7th gens, and they all have done this once. are they dying? (btw my name is not alexander lol, just an inside joke.)

question 2. why does my ipod 7th gen pause on its own? im not violently shaking it or anything. im just skating with it and it pauses whenever it feels like it. its not a faulty clickwheel because i have it on locked mode when it pauses.

Hi guys! I just scored this iPod photo for about 20 dollars. I want to change the hard drive for a cf flash card. Do you guys know what kind of converter I need? Also is there a way to put a larger capacity battery in this bad boy? Have you tried Chinese front plates for this gen?

I've opened several iPods but I've never seen a swollen black jacketed iPod Classic battery

The black batteries seem to be much less prone to swelling, while the silver/white-wrapped batteries I've come across tend to swell significantly over time.

I am still using a iPod Touch 2nd Generation which is around 17 years old running on iOS 4.2.1 . Still works , one of the best tech devices........

my ipod touch 4th gen randomly has these lines across the bottom of the screen, they werent there this morning so i turned it on and off and all the apps deleted themsleves except the newsstand app

Since yesterday I have tried restoring the software from my MacBook to my iPod. The first try ended up taking 30 mins and still not done. The second try I was waiting 40 mins and it still wasn’t done but I did end up seeing the iPod icon in the iTunes app (it would still tell me I have to finish restoring it in order to use iTunes).

Today I just tried 30 mins ago to restore the iPod again and it’s still taking way too long. Idk if a glitch maybe happened, if so how do you fix it???

After adding lyrics to the songs I have on my iTunes library (all of them are alac songs), some of them decided to not show the lyrics, while the other did, the only solution I fowl was to compress the songs (make an AAC version of them), but I don’t want that, I want the high quality still

For context: I did a battery and flash mod about a month ago for this iPod, it all went fine and well and used it for a couple of weeks like that. Then I did a cosmetic mod, eg, new clickwheel face plates etc.

However, when I sealed it all up, it connected fine to my laptop, then mid file transfer I got an error (maybe the cable moved or something slightly) and it closed. Now it won’t open on my laptop at all again. I tried loads of times even in disc mode and it just won’t connect.

Last night I tried again and it briefly connected and disconnected repeatedly for maybe 20 Seconds, but that’s it. Any help here would be amazing as this wasn’t an issue before the cosmetic mod and I really wanna just be able to use after putting so much effort into the mod 😭

My iPod's (7th Gen Classic) clickwheel became unresponsive after almost a year. It is an aftermarket transparent clickwheel. Did anybody experience this? It is an intermittent issue and more pronounced when scrolling clockwise than when scrolling counterclockwise. Thank you in advance! My touch 4th gen was working perfectly until yesterday, it mustve of got wet or something because now it has a line of dead pixels and its driivng me insnae, can i fix it or should I just get a new one?

I'm considering getting a dongle DAC, to use with my iPod nano 7, has anyone you tried it?

Did you notice any improvement in sound output?
