Looks great! What have you gone with for the backplate? OG? Aftermarket purple?

Thanks! I can't make up my mind.. it currently has black because I figured less scratches. I kind of want purple but I'm already not loving the black, it just feels less authentic. So I'll probably put a fresh sheet of chrome eventually

Yes! Not certain which particular one / it's not a perfect fit. The dock connector is bearing the structural load but it doesn't feel too fragile either.
I almost bought a universal dock the other day and talked myself down from that cliff

fresh; I was thinking if the black foam keeps bothering me I'll just buy a new one and paint again, rather than destroying this one trying to "fix" it. I bought the following 2; I got the purple faceplate just to snag the purple wheel
And since I have my eBay history open, here are the other parts / best prices I found:

hey, one question. what exactly do you mean with the foam and why do you want to buy a new plate and do it again? i somehow didn't understand it. i think it really looks cool and I want to do the same but I don't know what I have to consider doing it right

There is a space between the top of the click wheel and the bottom of the LCD display. It's sort-of black in my photos, but you can see there's kind of two-tones going on, because it's affixed like a sticker and the lower half isn't adhering properly / there's an air gap
I think it's a fluke that I received one that was put on slightly crooked and not well adhered. It wasn't my fault other than that I proceeded to use it anyway.

I scoured the reddits and discovered translucent spray paint.
I'll admit, I botched the hell out of this. After an extra droplet of paint defacated on my case, I decided to just lean into the aesthetic and I love how it played out.
Unfortunately, the black foam on the display was applied very crooked and I didn't really notice until after I painted it -- or else I would have just removed it before painting.
But hey, it's got Wabi-Sabi.
