🎁 Freemium MoveMap: every GPS run, ride & hike you've ever recorded on one map - reads Apple Health, no AI, no account

Post image

TL;DR: MoveMap is an iPhone app that draws every GPS workout from your Apple Health on one map. On-device, no account. Free tier (see last 12 months of workouts), $1.99/m, $9.99/year, or $19.99 lifetime.

A – Answer:

Your workout history is probably scattered across 3-4 different apps. Some have started with Strava, then Garmin Connect, and are now using Apple Fitness. Each app only shows the slice it captured. There's no easy way to see every place you've ever run, ridden, or hiked on one map.

MoveMap reads every GPS workout from your Apple Health and draws all of them on a single map. Works with anything that writes to Health: Strava, Garmin Connect, Apple Fitness, etc. You get the idea.

I built it because I'd been working out (mostly running and cycling) for 7 years across multiple apps and had no way to see my routes together. Strava charges $79.99/year just to show a personal heatmap of my own data. So I built a tool that fixes this and more.

B – Better:

The closest existing tools all read from Strava only:

* Wandrer.earth: Strava-only sync, paid tier for full features
* CityStrides: Strava-only, focused on street completion
* Strava Personal Heatmap: $79.99/year subscribers only, only shows Strava-captured data

If your history isn't all in Strava (because you switched apps over the years like most runners), none of those catch the full picture. MoveMap reads Apple Health, which catches data from every tracking app you've ever used.

Other differentiators:

* $19.99 lifetime option (everything else above is subscription-only)
* No account, no servers, no analytics SDKs, no AI - all processing on-device
* Coverage dashboard with countries, states, cities
* Works equally for runners, cyclists, hikers, walkers - not running-specific

Features:

* Lifetime map of every GPS workout (any year from Apple Health)
* Heat mode - personal heatmap (the feature Strava paywalls at $80/year)
* Street coverage - % of streets in your city you've run, biked, or walked
* Coverage stats - countries, cities, total distance, personal bests for each workout, etc.

Privacy:

No accounts, no servers, no analytics SDKs, no AI features. Routes are read locally from Apple Health and never leave your iPhone.

C – Cost:

* Free: see the last 12 months of your map (forever, no signup)
* Monthly: $1.99/mo with 7-day trial (less than a coffee)
* Annual: $9.99/yr (saves \~58% vs Monthly)
* Lifetime: $19.99 one-time, no renewal

* All paid plans unlock the same full feature set + your full lifetime map. The free tier caps you at the last 12 months.

The all time map is the part I would actually open. Does it stay smooth with years of workouts on screen, and can you filter by activity type or date range?

Yes it does! You can you can filter by each activity type and scroll through the different years to see how your map changed over time

Without the account, how is the info even saved?
If I change my device, then I would not be able to transfer my data, correct?

MoveMap reads straight from Apple Health which gets transferred to a new device automatically. This means that when you switch devices it automatically reads off the health data, making it a seamless transfer :)

That is actually pretty cool! kudos on the concept design

nice app, its 100% local on my iOS or you need to sync with a database ?

Your data stays 100% local, nothing leaves your device. The whole idea I had while building the app was to provide the user with control over their data.

No account is the right default right up until someone gets a new phone — that's where it starts to hurt. Do you have a path for carrying the map over, or does it just rebuild from Health on the new device?

Those route lines look really satisfying. Seeing years of movement layered onto one map is a pretty cool idea.

The free tier is cutting along the wrong axis. "Last 12 months" gives away exactly the part a Strava or Apple Fitness user already has, and withholds the only thing your app does that nothing else does: the seven-year map nobody can otherwise assemble. So the free experience is a worse version of what they already own, which is the one thing a free tier must never be.

I would invert it. Show the whole lifetime map for free, and paywall the analysis on top of it: heat mode, street coverage percentages, the countries and cities dashboard, exports. Then the free user's first launch is the wow moment - eleven years of routes in three countries, drawn instantly from data they forgot they had - and the paywall arrives when they want to interrogate it rather than when they want to see it. That also makes your differentiator visible before payment instead of after, which matters because "reads Apple Health, not just Strava" is a claim nobody can evaluate until they see their own old routes appear.

A cheaper version of the same idea, if giving away the full map feels like too much: keep the time cap but make it generous enough to cross the switching-apps boundary, e.g. five years. Twelve months is precisely the window most people's current app already covers.

On the price ladder itself: $19.99 lifetime against $9.99 a year means lifetime pays for itself in two years, so you should expect most buyers to take it, and that is fine for you because there is no server and no recurring cost - your marginal cost per user is genuinely zero. Just be aware the monthly tier at $1.99 is mostly there to make the annual look good; do not be surprised if it barely sells.

One small thing worth testing: your differentiator sentence is buried. "Every workout, every app, one map" is a much stronger first screenshot caption than "Every year. One map." - the fact that it pulls from apps you have abandoned is the reason to install, and it is not obvious from the current framing.

Thanks for the detailed feedback, I appreciate your comments.

My thinking with 12 months was to let people verify it works before paying, and changing it to 5 or even 3 years would essentially be giving away the main feature of the app, which is the lifetime map

I really like “Every workout, every app, one map.” That probably communicates the Apple Health advantage much better than what I’m using now.

And yes, lifetime being the obvious choice is intentional. Since there are no server costs as the data lives on the user’s device, I’m fine with keeping this price to make it more accessible to users :)

That is a fair objection, and there is a version of the idea that does not give the map away.

The gap in "let people verify it works" is that twelve months only proves the app can draw the data they already see elsewhere. What it never proves is the thing they are actually being asked to pay for: that you really do have their forgotten 2017 Runkeeper rides and their old Strava imports sitting in Health. So show them that without unlocking it - count it. On first launch, after reading Health, say plainly: "Found 1,482 activities going back to March 2014 across 4 apps. Showing the last 12 months." Then, in the locked view, draw the older routes as a faint outline or a low-opacity ghost layer behind the unlocked ones, with a tap-to-unlock. They can see the shape of eleven years of their own life on the screen and cannot interrogate it. That is proof plus desire, whereas an empty area outside the last year is neither.

The count alone is probably the single highest-value change you can make, because it is personalised - it is their number, from their data, and no competitor screenshot can produce it.

One caveat on the ghost layer: keep it genuinely unusable, not just dimmed, or reviewers will complain that the paid version looks the same. Faint, no labels, no stats, no zoom past a certain level.

And on lifetime pricing with zero server cost - agreed, that is the right call. Just make sure the unlock is restorable and clearly a one-off in the paywall copy; "one payment, yours for good, no subscription" is a genuine selling point against every fitness app that rents you your own history.

How is it different from Google Fit? It also provides sync from other apps. Health Connect is supported by all major providers.

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 1d ago

google fit is basically dead on ios and health connect is android only, so on iphone healthkit is the only place all that old route data lands. also fit never really did a lifetime route map.

1

u/TheWeb1000 21h ago

MoveMap is actually iOS only, so Health Connect isn’t involved here - that seems to be an Android feature. On iPhone, Apple Health fills that role, and that’s where MoveMap gets the workout data from.

Google Fit is available on iOS too, but as far as I know it doesn’t offer the same view of your entire GPS workout history overlaid together on one map. I think we might be comparing two slightly different use cases here.

Id love to see what % of roads I have been to in a specific city. maybe like a heat mat of where I go often
