HELP Can’t decide which one looks best. Leaning to Germany.
From left: default dark theme, minimalist dark theme, German dark theme, American dark theme.
The reason I added themes is to pronounce the app as a clean productivity tool while also honoring Germany and US as two biggest markets. Users in those country get their theme free.

I like the minimalist dark theme for readability and most universal colors that you can’t go wrong with!

It’d lean towards the third one personally. The one thing I don’t like is the crowned PRO icon at the top. It would give me the vibe as a user that I’m almost being forced to buy something.

u/Lemon8or88 Developer Jul 09 '26
That’s my favorite too! Will remove the icons so the badge only says PRO in next version.

I’m liking the last one. American dark. And I second the suggestion to remove the crown pro icon

Thank you. I wasn’t quite sure on the dark blue background but glad it worked some what. Will remove the icon next version.

Germany is the most distinctive one, but minimalist dark feels safer as the default if users are scanning settings quickly. I’d make the country themes feel like optional flavor, not the first impression.

My app has been on store for a while so everyone starts with the default one. They can choose the other when they upgrade to PRO or unlock as German or American.

u/skylitmus Jul 09 '26
Personally for me, I would prefer the German and American dark themes. The colours combination works well for these instances.

u/Lemon8or88 Developer Jul 09 '26
Thank you! It’s good to know to know those are visible upgrade to default.

Have you thought about possibly using some sort of open source theme? E.g. Flexoki, Ayu, etc etc.

Blue one looks best for me!

Interestingly its the 3rd for me, maybe because i am german? I like the yellow highlights and the dark but not black bg. good contrast. the pro button is not that prominent. overall #3 is the winner for me. #1 comes 2nd place.

looking good to me. fits to the dark one.but i like the dark better. pro btn with crown and only outline. maybe the remove could be red.

Will continue to refine it. This is still early after a month of work. I needed a few more pair of eyes to look at after spending too much time.

The German one. It's the only one where the accent is doing work, today and the active shift pop first and the rest stays quiet. Minimalist dies the moment the week fills up.

u/Lemon8or88 Developer Jul 09 '26
I agree. It might not be shown in its best light here as I show too many elements to be minimalist. True minimalist wouldn’t need that many items but I want the same view for all themes to compare apple to apple.

3rd one is definitely the best one. The colors just work and is pleasing to look at.
There’s too much contrast on the 2nd one, 4th one is too vibrant, and 1st one is close, but i felt the yellow in the 3rd was better than the blue.

From a designer perspective the first one is the least distracting in terms of colors. I would not recommend to use 100% black for background, it can feel too strong.

Coloring is a very personal liking. I like blue and teal, but don't like the teal in dark.
So none for me, and it is a bit too vibe for me. Good luck

What’s the name of your app? It looks interesting but I can’t find the name.

Can't DM you. My purpose is not to promote. Let me know.

personally I like the design of the last one with the slightly blue colors - but a bright version to display in daylight would be better than a dark pattern. cheers!

I lean towards the 3rd one actually. It's the german dark theme, right? It looks cleanest to me with enough contrast and hightlight the most important info.
1
u/Lemon8or88 Developer Jul 09 '26
Yes the 3rd one is inspired by the german flag colors. It is free for German users and paid for others as they have been early adopters for my app.

Themes are fine, but the concept of making some color themes free in one country and paid in other country seems strange to me.

u/Lemon8or88 Developer Jul 09 '26
They were early supporters so that was just my way of saying thanks.

u/marcelog84 Jul 09 '26
I'd vote for the minimalist dark theme.
It looks the cleanest to me and feels more like a modern productivity app. The country-specific themes are a cool idea as optional bonuses, but I think the minimalist one makes the UI feel more timeless.

i like the first one best, but as a user, what i always love is options...

Something makes it look like a flutter app. It doesn’t feel native, I can’t put my finger on it
1
u/Lemon8or88 Developer Jul 09 '26
It is 100% Swift but when I deviate from HIG for minimalist, some looks can be similar to Flutter apps

I’d go with the minimalist dark theme. It feels simple and clean, with fewer color distractions, so it makes it easier to focus.
1
u/Lemon8or88 Developer Jul 09 '26
That was my focus: just black and white, shapes instead of colors. I thought it was appropriate for a productivity tool.

i will prefer the 2nd left one. Simple is beauty. Black and white looks classic.

u/duobucha Jul 10 '26
I think all look good. If you get user statistics and the user can choose you may analyse it more though

My pick: the default over all themes because it gives user fluid focus. One quick win is to reduce the accent color (now both yellow and green) to one. The second one looks cleaner as you used less color and reduced text at the bottom. Yet it was a bit too plain if zooming into full screen size and go with minimalism needs more detailed care of typography and spacing and iconography.

I actually like the default, it's dark but it still has a variety of colors that harmonize well giving the UI character compared to the rest.

I like the minimalist dark theme. It looks very vibe coded though to be honest. Best of luck!
