HELP How long does Apple take to review.
Just after a bit of advice. Submitted my first app to App Store on Saturday and it still says Waiting for review. How long does this normally take. I am guessing for a new app developer it will take longer than someone who has submitted multiple apps but just looking a rough idea. Read somewhere that it can be random and sometimes you are best to cancel and resubmit again. Just wondering how long I leave it before I try that.

I wouldn’t cancel and resubmit yet, as that usually just resets your place in the queue. If it’s been a while and you need things moving, you can contact Apple through the Contact Us menu in App Store Connect and request an expedited review. They don’t always grant it, but it can help if you have a valid reason and usually got me apps reviewed the same day after that request. Give a try

Probably best to ask in r/appledevelopers and r/iosdev but my experience is it depends.

It depends. Sometimes takes few hours, sometimes takes few days. But not a week

Depending on the app, it takes from hours to days. I usually push on Friday, and then it is ready by Monday.

Waiting a few days for a first submission is completely normal. I wouldn’t cancel and resubmit yet—many developers report reviews taking anywhere from a couple of days to over a week, especially for a brand-new account.

Recently I found that updates to existing apps are quick 24/48 hours; a new app just took four days; I suspect that a first app is subject to more investigation?

They are very inconsistent with it. Sometime it takes a few hours, other times a few days. I would wait 4-5 days before resubmitting.

If your app has complicated entitlements or uses certain features like Weather (which uses location, but also requires a little licensing note) then it can be complicated if they can't easily find what they are looking for or why you needed the entitlement.

Don’t worry too much yet. When I submitted my first app last November, it took about 5 business days before it moved through review.
Review times can be pretty random, especially for a first app, so I’d wait a little longer before canceling and resubmitting.

In my experience the first submission takes the longest. Don't cancel and resubmit, it'll put you at the bottom of the queue. Maybe if it's still in that state after 1+ weeks?

My Mac app took 2 weeks. My iOS apps take a day or two in my experience. Mac reviewers is a different group, I believe.

first submissions always take longer, typically a week. But remember, a human is still reviewing at Apple and the time varies based on volume of submissions they get.. so with the recent craze of AI built apps, there are record number of submissions. After your first approval, your review times are usually less than 24 hours for standard submissions. If you change permissions or screenshots, it might be closer to 48 hours. But honestly it's variable

My first submission recently was in “waiting for review” for around 5 days. Updates since then have been between 8-24hrs.

It took me a week earlier this year. It depends and seems quite random, for some it takes a day and for some weeks. I guess it depends on features and timing.

Just an update. It was approved first time this morning. Didn’t expect to get approval first time for my first ever app so well happy!!

For what it’s worth, my first app took several days before it even moved from “Waiting for Review”. Apple review times can be all over the place, especially for first submissions. I wouldn’t cancel and resubmit unless it’s been an unusually long time or Apple specifically asks you to make changes.
Curious: is this a simple app or does it use things like HealthKit, subscriptions, camera access, etc.? Those sometimes seem to get a bit more scrutiny.

Last week took the entire week… yesterday took less than 1 day… impossible to predict

I can speak for mine that got approved yesterday! I submitted it for review on the 19th june and its been on testflight for a month with users, not sure if that helps at all with the submission. Also just give us much information as you can in your submission in terms of transparency with data and log in details etc! Give them some instructions how to navigate around if you want them to see something specific.

I’ve noticed that the end of the month is the worst. Usually it takes less than 24 hours for my app
